Great little gem!
Pros - beautiful 240 acre ranch to explore, full RV hookups, only 3 RV sites max, awesome river nearby, owner is super nice, beautiful sunsets, charming tiny town 5 min away, free fire wood supplied,
Cons - description and pictures did not set accurate expectations, hopefully this review helps with that for others, your RV site will be 25ft feet from owner who lives in 3rd RV site, your site will have a tree 10 feet away that provides some shade but mostly you are in the sun so bring a shade pop-up or other shade making plan.
Hopefully useful information - owner is awesome and friendly, allowed me to use his green egg which was already heated up to cook some steaks and later invited girlfriend and I over to visit with him and his adult kids and share some scotch around the fire. From description I expected owner in the house and RV site (2 are listed) to be separate, was surprised when I pulled up and we were on top of each other. That being said I had a super romantic weekend and once we got settled we never felt intruded upon. My guess is owner will be a friendly and helpful as you want but in my case we wanted to camp alone and he totally respected that. We could play a little country music quiet and never bother them and they never bothered us. There is a cabin onsite for rental which was further away from the RV sites and although someone stayed there we never crossed paths. I posted pictures with this review showing 360 degree view from right next to campsite 1 (campsite 2 is like 30-40 feet away from site 1 so basically same as this one). Note we were in teardrop camper so camped out the back but if you are in standard RV then the RV would block you from the owners site pretty completely. If you tent camp you could put your tent under the tree. We hiked up to the top of mountain (significant hike) and watched the sunset which was magnificent. Owner offered to give us a ride up there and all watch it together the next day and if you are not up for giant hike this is a good option. Well water was clean and cold. Electricity reliable. We did not feed goats but went by there as we explored and probably should have as that looked fun. Windmill was rustic and beautiful. We camped in late August and in the shade the breeze made sitting around just chilling pleasant enough. There was no swimmable water on the property at this time. There is a large dry creek that runs a portion of the property and perhaps another time of year it might be usable. That being said we found a great solution 2 min away by car as we parked next to the small bridge you cross coming to the property, and found two spots. 6ft deeps 20’ wide swimming hole in Medina River just downstream of the bridge. Water was clean and clear (for river water) and felt great on a hot day! Then about 100ft upstream we settled into a spot where we set chairs in the 2-4” deep water (maybe 30’ wide stream at this point). Our chairs were under the shade of a giant tree, cool water running over our toes, the sounds of water running over little rocks, and plunge pool depth just a few feet away to cool off in. We spent 6 hours here laughing and talking and nobody ever came by so we had the entire place to ourselves (no guarantee as this is not “private property” but the point being you are kinda in the middle of no where on this road and it turned out to be just what we were looking for.) Entire property is secured by coded gate with basically zero traffic so felt as safe as you can feel here.
Overall we loved the place and would absolutely return!
I am adding a bunch of pictures to help you know what to expect!
We had an absolutely amazing time staying out on the ranch! Charles was the most amazing host. He took the time to show us every bit of his property, from the beautiful creek to the top of the mountain and the entrance to the incredible cave up there. He even invited us to join him in feeding the tribe of goats that are being raised on the ranch. The site was absolutely perfect for our RV and it was wonderful to have full hookups available. The ranch is a hidden treasure for fossil hunters and we enjoyed finding many unique fossils. Charles is an expert at botanical knowledge and we loved learning about the indigenous trees and flowers of the area. We cannot wait to come back to this incredible hidden gem.
Great little gem!
We had a fun and relaxing weekend. Finding little gems like this is the way to go. Charles greeted us at the gate and got us to our site quickly. Family had fun fishing (Charles got the youngest into a few fish), and swimming in the Medina River. We were provided with all of the wood we could burn. There was a picnic table and fire ring. Nice having full hookups as well. Everyone continuously checked in with us to make sure we were good to go.
If your looking for a quite, easy going place to simply camp and relax, give this place a try.
