4 nights at Little Off Lake House

What an awesome spot. We had a great time relaxing and unplugging at this cabin. My kids enjoyed fishing and swimming since the lake was high. Made good use of the diving board! We will definitely be back. Kellie was a great host. Made sure we had all we needed and even brought a pole set up for catfish for our kids to try out. They landed a 15lb catfish on his rod. Great memories!

Pretty private and easy to get to. Water access is easy with a nice view and great rocking chairs.

2 nights at Country Woods Inn

The Santa Fe car is at the edge of a meadow and some woods, with a cluster of other accommodations ranging from campsites, airstreams and a cabin where a hostess cat lives who greets all the guests. She came knocking on our door and stayed with us, to our delight, throughout our stay. And there is no extra charge for vacation kitty! The train car is cleverly outfitted with all the comforts and everything you need for them: cooking pots and utensils, dinnerware, wine glasses and corkscrew. The hot water is steaming. The small refrigerator was plenty big enough for us and has a freezer shelf with two mini cube ice trays, but for larger groups consider bringing in some ice with you. The bunk beds are as steady as trees and so roomy under the canopy that only the very tall might have to bend to clear it. For us, it was like a small room. The mattresses are both soft and supportive. A town vendor said the car had been outfitted and adorned for the owner’s grandchildren, and we certainly benefitted from the thoughtfulness, playfulness and considerations that have been lovingly put into it. A small jar is offered for collecting fireflies darting outside. We gladly unplugged with no WiFi or tv signal there, when there were so many books, games and dvds for entertainment. Instead though we opted for star watching, deer spotting, and loving on the petting animals at the main hub. We plan to return often for the rest and rejuvenation we found easily in the woods by the river

Really enjoyed camping here, the campgrounds were great. Loved being able to have my dog off leash! The host stopped by shortly after we got there to say hi and ask if we had questions. He was super nice and helpful.

Weekend Trip to Pecans on the Paluxy - River Views

Camp Site #1 - stayed early June. Daddy daughter camping trip… there were five of us. The site was amazing and next to a playground and the river has a rock ledge in front of the site so there is a massive space where the water was about six inches for the kids to run and play. I ordered the firewood, frisbees, jenga, and connect4. Everything went perfectly. ~10 minutes from both Fossil Rim and Dinosaur Valley. Would definitely do this again and highly recommend.

We had a wonderful time getting back to nature! Fishing, hiking, kayaking, and swimming! We saw lots of wildlife and enjoyed the fresh air and all that God has to offer! The bathrooms were conveniently located and superbly clean! Even on a busy holiday weekend it didn't feel overcrowded! Definitely a must try for family campouts!

We planned the trip expecting a thunderstorm for the whole 3 days, the first night it stormed everyone else left besides us. We had the whole place to ourselves and it didn’t even rain the other 2 days. It was so relaxing!! We even rented one of the paddle boats and enjoyed some fishing on the river!! Will definitely be back!

We had a great time at this campsite! The grounds were well-kept, the water was clean, and everything was just as described. It was peaceful, spacious, and perfect for a weekend getaway. We did come across a copperhead snake during our stay. It was a good reminder to stay aware of your surroundings—especially in natural areas like this. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our time and would definitely consider coming back!

The spot was really nice! There was a sink, toilet, and shower on sight, and a beautiful view. We had no issues while we were there. There’s no service out there so the free WiFi was super convenient. We also had a really sweet dog visit us which was an added bonus (not sure where he came from). We would definitely camp there again!

This was a wonderful spot to camp! We stayed at the Foxhollow site, and it was perfectly shaded with lots of flat ground for tents. The river access with the little beach was perfectly shaded for a relaxing day in the water. A truly great getaway!

Gipsy Moon was a great place for tent camping! The folks there are friendly and helpful, and the sites are lovely and clean. Generally, the campground was quiet and peaceful. We had two five-year-olds with us and they loved swimming in the river and petting all of the goats! We’d recommend, for sure.

Weekend Trip to JH Ranch-Haggard Lake

This was my 5th or 6th trip out to the cabin and I plan on returning many times. John is a great host, the lake is really nice with great fishing and swimming, cabin is very stout with good options for cooking and there is also great BBQ nearby in Stephenville. Now, it is rustic and a little wild. If you are scared of spiders or the occasional watersnake, maybe it's not for you but you're missing out! Made lots of great memories out here, highly recommend.

Great get away for a day trip or weekend. Nice tent deck and fire pit area with plenty of space around the camp. Tent deck was just shy of our 12’ wide tent but the ground was level and just fine. Has playground and sand box with toys the kids enjoyed. Great path down to the water. Clean and maintained camp site. Good view of the stars through the tree tops. Had some visitors (raccoons) in the trees but didn't come into camp or disturb us. Fun to watch them do their thing. We had a great time paddle boarding up the river to a local water hole with the family and 2 pups. Visited the big rocks park in the late afternoon to get some good sunset starburst pictures. The kids love those giant boulders. I dont have any photos of the site was too busy enjoying the moments.

Sundancer On The Brazos sits on Comanche Creek in an isolated forest on a 350 acre working cattle ranch with a quarter mile of river frontage! The Comanche were quite active up and down this part of the Brazos when the earliest settlers arrived around 1850, until the Comanches' eventual conquest by the Texas Rangers and their Colt pistols around 1870; we have found lots of flint and some arrowheads on high places here. Going further back in history, the Fuller's Folly River Ranch has an abundance of petrified wood, they say that if you have fossilized sea shells you were under water, but if you have petrified wood you had land creatures. Hunting for petrified wood is a fun adventure here. (But leave them for the next person to discover!) Weatherford is only 10 minutes away and Granbury is only 20 minutes away; both have great restaurants. And this close to Fort Worth (30min), you could actually commute and have a ranch to come home to at night--note the lower pricing mid week.

Pecans on the Paluxy - River Views

Pitch your tent or boondock your RV on the Paluxy River under giant pecan trees. Enjoy the scenic view of our beautiful river. Our private property is located near the historic square of glen rose but feels like you are miles away in the country. Have fun kayaking, swimming, fishing, or just sit back and enjoy the views. We have 5 different spacious sites to choose from. Most have a tree break area in-between for privacy. Or rent all 5 and have the entire property to yourself. Updated river photos will be posted on our Facebook page, or message me for updates. Unfortunately, I'm not able to control the river. It goes up and down depending on rain and temperatures. The river gets pretty low during July and August. Wheeler Branch Reservoir(only a few miles from camp) is a great spot to swim and fish when the river water levels are lower. Very small lake that is good for swimming and kayaking with a dock, clear waters. We have 5 different sites. All of them overlook the Paluxy River, have rock fire pits, seating areas, patios, and stairs down to riverbed. You will have access to one of the most beautiful parts of the Paluxy River. During drought conditions and high temperatures I always recommend keeping your head above water and avoiding stagnant areas in the river. In order to reserve a spot you must be 21 or over. This is not a extremely remote place where you can party and go crazy. We want everyone to be able to sit back, relax and enjoy the views. Site Big Pecan: This is the farthest site upriver and has one of the largest pecan trees I've ever seen. The trees provide great shade cover during the summer. This site has an awesome rock patio seating area with 2 wooden Adirondack chairs overlooking the river with stairs to provide easy access down into the water. It also has a rock firepit with 2 wooden Adirondack chairs on a rock patio. Also includes a kids sand box, and a picnic table with shade umbrella, and numerous extras available to rent. Site 1 Limestone ledge: Firepit seating area overlooking the river with 4 Adirondack chairs and a shade umbrella, separate rock patio closer to the water overlooking the river with 2 wooden rocking chairs, stairs down to riverbed, huge pecan trees, kids play set with sand box, 1 picnic table, shade umbrella, and a 10' x 10' raised tent deck platform overlooking the river. Site 2: Firepit seating area overlooking limestone riverbed with 3 Adirondack chairs, picnic table with a shade umbrella, 10' x 10' raised tent / deck platform, stairs down to riverbed and shallow area of the river for kids to play. Awesome view of the river with trees / shrubs on each side for privacy. Site 3: Firepit seating area overlooking the riverbed, 2 wooden Adirondack chairs, 2 picnic tables, 1 shade umbrella, 2 sets of rock stairs to the riverbed, shallow area of the river for kids to play. Awesome view of the river with trees / shrubs on each side for privacy. Site 4 Farthest site downstream. Nice rock patio overlooking the river with two wooden rocking chairs. Or sites 2 and 3. kayaks, wood, outdoor games, frisbee golf baskets and disc, grill and utensils, propane firepit, and other extras available for rent. Please select those during checkout Tips: Bring river shoes, nose plugs, swimming essentials. Parts of the river can be very slippery. Bring life jackets, especially for children. Bring the essentials for any camping trip including: sunscreen, bug spray, anti-itch meds, etc. Chairs and sunshades to sit in the river are always popular. The Paluxy river ranges from just a few inches deep to 5 feet deep in our camping area. There are more swimming holes a little deeper up and downstream. Water is available at the entrance. There are all types of methods for restrooms, heating, cooling, etc. available now to make it enjoyable. Dogs are allowed on leash.
