Frequently asked questions
How does Hipcamp work?
Hipcamp is an award-winning app and website that campers use to discover and book campsites, RV sites, cabins, glamping, and more.
Landowners sign up for free, set their own rules, pricing, and availability, and receive automatic payouts every week via direct deposit or PayPal.
How much can I earn?
Many Hosts earn more than $20,000 in their first year. Earnings depend on your location and setup, but most listings range from $35/night for a campsite to $300+ for a luxury treehouse. We also provide customized pricing suggestions based on similar properties nearby.
How much will it cost?
Nothing upfront. Listing on Hipcamp is always free—we only take a small commission when you receive a booking. The rate depends on your property type (private landowner or commercial park) and is shown clearly on every payout statement.
How long does it take to set up?
Just 15 minutes. Create your listing, add photos, set your availability, and you’re ready to start accepting bookings.
Is my land right for Hipcamp?
If your place connects guests with nature, it’s likely a good fit. Hipcamp properties range from a single acre to thousands, from raw land and tent sites to developed campgrounds and luxury treehouses. Not sure? Check our listing guidelines.
What about insurance?
We’ve got you covered. Every Hipcamp booking includes up to $1 million USD of liability coverage for general claims per occurrence, giving you peace of mind in the rare event of an accident.
What if I have an issue with a camper?
Hipcampers are known for being respectful and their love of nature—mishaps are extremely rare. Still, we work hard to protect you:
- Hipcampers must agree to your rules before booking
- All must follow Hipcamper Standards and our Leave It Better ethos
- You and other Hosts can review Hipcampers
- Problem guests receive feedback or are banned from the platform if needed
What does Hipcamp expect from me as a Host?
We ask all Hosts to follow our Host Standards, ensuring a safe and positive experience for guests, neighbors, and the environment. Hosts are also expected to comply with local regulations for camping and short-term hosting.
Do I need to provide toilets?
All campsites and structures listed on Hipcamp must have access to a toilet. You can provide one onsite, or guests may bring their own (including self-contained RVs). If you provide a toilet, it must be available at all times. Read our full toilet policy here
Do you sync with my reservation software?
Yes. Hipcamp integrates with many property management systems (PMS), including ResNexus, Newbook, RMS, Staylist, RezStream, Roverpass, Firefly, and more. If you’re unsure about your system, schedule a call with us to confirm.
What if I host somewhere else?
No problem. Hipcamp syncs with Airbnb, VRBO, HomeAway, Google Calendar, iCal, and more, so you can avoid double bookings and keep your calendars up to date automatically.
I’m already fully booked on another site—why should I list with Hipcamp?
Hipcamp helps you grow where others can’t: 57% of bookings are midweek or off-peak. Even busy Hosts benefit from extra bookings, low fees, and our dedicated US-based support team. Since it’s free to list, there’s no risk. So why not try it out?
