I won't lie I was worried when we got there. But the place and the people were amazing! Being right on the river was so nice and in our campsite we had a small family of cardinals for the entire weekend! I can't recommend this place enough especially if you have a family or pets. Truly magical.

Stayed at "the point" a nice view and acess of the river a lovely spot the hidden charm of this place is the animal they keep at the farm a whimsical feeling of hearing Zchickens goats and peacocks in the distance with plenty of natural critters to hear an see around and across the rivers. The host of the site are very kind and nice to talk to.

1 night at Gypsy Moon Hideaway

The directions to the sites were very easy, and even though Amy was away, we were able to easily get in contact with her and get settled in. We stayed at “The Point” site. The toilet was super clean and recently stocked, having been maintained well. The grounds themselves were similarly kept. On the site we saw river otters! That was fun. There are also lots of gar, herons, snakes and turtles to see in the river. We really loved that. The only downside I’d say is the neighbors dog’s that like to bark at everything. But they settle down quickly and didn’t bother us much. Overall it was a good night’s stay! We’d come here again.

While I did end up having a great time..However..I saw a photo of the Riverside Campground where I stayed on the Hipcamp app which is what made me wanna book it….and it didn’t look anything like where I actually camped. I made the best of it though and pitched my tent in such a way it was overlooking the river. The fishing was great and the area is quite..But I also kinda felt like I was being watched..Idk..maybe it had something to do with the sign that said 24 hour surveillance that’s posted on the gate. I didn’t meet the host personally but she was communicating through the app which is fine. She seems Ike a very nice lady. I just wanna know where the spot was on the photo I seen. That’s where I envisioned I’d be camping.

I really enjoyed this spot along a creek feeding the Brazos River that's just a walk away from camp. I was able to take a shower (cold) and charge up my power station. It was quiet, secure, and I stayed for a couple of days. Definitely will return next time I'm in the area!

Beautiful setting with great views and fishing. Unfortunately a cold and windy front came through our second day so we hunkered down the majority of our stay. Host was very accommodating and attentive without being at all intrusive. Even took our 5 yr old around with us on his side by side to introduce us to his burros! Our trip to Gypsy Moon was great! Me and my family of 5 camped at Fox Hollow and we enjoyed everything about our stay. We have 3 kids and the campsite was close to the river but not right on the water so we had some peace of mind. Amy was a very attentive host who would periodically check-in with us and made sure we were taken care of. My family enjoyed all of the different animals around the property, especially Sage the cat and the herds of goats that would randomly stroll through our campsite. The fresh duck eggs were a nice optional bonus to enjoy in the morning! I’d say my only let down was the fact that the bait shop no longer existed as I’d have shopped for bait beforehand. Nonetheless Amy was open to helping us dig up some worms. She really was an amazing host. My kids have already mentioned several times how they look forward to visiting Gypsy Moon again! See y'all soon!

Lots of privacy, but the host checked in on me to make sure I had everything I needed! The house itself did indeed have everything you could want. This popular state park just an hour west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area centers on the clear, blue waters of Possum Kingdom Lake, with its 300 miles of shoreline. While the on-land activity menu includes hiking, biking, picnicking, and geocaching, the real appeal is the water. Fish for largemouth, striped, or white bass from a boat or fishing pier, or beat the Texas heat with some swimming or water skiing. Scuba divers will find one of the state’s oldest inland diving destinations—a popular spot for scavenging items dropped in the water.

Best for fishing: The Spanish Oaks Campground has a fishing pier and fish cleaning station.
Best for boating: You’ll find the park’s boat ramp near the Lakeview Camping Area.

Tips for snagging a campsite

You can reserve any of the 29 electricity sites, 53 campsites with water, or 10 primitive, walk-in campsites on the Texas State Parks website.

When to go

Possum Kingdom State Park is a popular spot to cool off during the hot Texas summers, particularly on weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Come in the fall or spring months to take advantage of cooler temperatures for hiking and biking. Many campsites close during the winter months.

Know before you go

Public consumption of alcohol is not permitted anywhere within the state park.
Swimming is permitted in designated swimming areas along the lakeshore, but there are no lifeguards on duty.
Park amenities include showers and restrooms, marina boat slips, a gas pump, and a shop with groceries, live bait, and kayak and canoe rentals.
Campsites are pet-friendly, but pets need to be kept on a leash at all times.

Possum Kingdom Campground

The lake is beautiful and clean no doubt about that, but I was completely disappointed with my campsite at the Lakeview campgrounds. I understand it was July 4th weekend and I knew it would be crowded, but I didn't expect to have a loud, large family of about 30 right next to my site. The fire pit was on the wrong side and was about 12 feet from our neighbors. Really awkward because they were facing us. I booked this particular site because the pictures showed it had a stand up grill to cook on. It did not only the fire pit grill. The rangers were nice but they were no help since they couldn't move the fire pit for us. Our neighbors were loud until midnight and kept shining their truck lights in our tents. We packed up the next morning.
