Weekend Trip to Coyote Creek Farm

We loved camping on Regena’s land. She met us on the driveway and took us to our campsite. She picked one out for us that’s mostly grass, a nice newer picnic table, bucket potty that she emptied out for us, fire ring and trash bin. Her property was so private, Regena was the only person we saw. We loved the two nights we were there. Easy drive to Waco, we went antique store shopping and went to the Silos. Would highly recommend.

1 night at McDonald Farm on the River

This is a farm. For those that enjoy dispersed camping, this is it. No one else there so I had the run of the place. As described, I was met by the owner as I came up the drive, got a quick property tour and history, met the new baby pigs, was greeted by chickens and the old brown farm dog that came to check on me a couple of times. Fire pits were located throughout the property with plenty of firewood around for the choosing. Very clean portapotty. They have showers but I didn’t use them so I can’t comment. The main drawback is the proximity to Hwy 29. As noted in the description, it is not unnoticeable but by about 6:30 or 7, it calmed down a lot. I was just there on a spur of the moment , quick, overnighter to check the place out and to field test a couple of new pieces of camping equipment. It’s only a 15 mile trip from my home, so nice and easy. I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. I’ve had a couple of questionable Hipcamp experiences, but this was not one of them . I can say I’ll probably be back the next time I need to get out or to put a new camping toy to work.

Weekend Trip to P² Farm | Scenic River Camping

My friends and I had an absolute blast on the pasture mingle campsite. I will say though, if you’re looking for a lot of privacy, you’ll probably want to go with the mother tree location. Since this campsite is next to the barn where horse rides begin, there were people coming in and out a lot during our stay. Didn’t bother us, and we preferred being right up next to the horses, with two sheep roaming and playing around for us to watch. I’d recommend this spot to families with kids who like animals, and the mother tree location for people who want more of the private river spot. Overall we were very pleased.

Weekend Trip to Coyote Creek Farm

We had a great time at Regena's place! It was our first trip with our youngster, so it was a bit of a trial run. Everything went great. Regena is close by and easy to get a hold of, but doesn't impede on you at the same time. She is a fantastic host- super nice and accommodating. Exactly the type of host you want. The location is outside of the city and is rural, but is also only a 12 minute drive to the grocery store for when you realize you forgot your coffee, like I did. There are some houses relatively close to the RV site, but all the properties have acreage, so the closest is about about a hundred yards away and is hidden behind trees, even in winter months when the trees aren't bloomed. Overall we enjoyed it very much and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.

Weekend Trip to McDonald Farm on the River

My friends and I had such a lovely time at the McDonald farm. The hosts were incredibly kind and communicative, and even gifted us spiced pecans from their land, which were delicious. Being around the farm animals was such a treat (we even got to meet two day-old baby piglets!), and the swimming area was sooo refreshing and calming. A couple things to be mindful of: the property is quite close to a busy road, so you can hear some traffic noise. It didn’t ruin our experience, but it is helpful to know if you’re looking for total quiet. There is also no table at the campsites (that we knew of), so definitely bring one. The kitchen and coffee area were not available during our stay, though it seems like it may be opening soon. Overall, we had a wonderful time and there is so much to love about this charming farm. Btw - make sure to stop at the farm stand...the whole chicken and mulberry syrup were DELICIOUS! Thanks so much :)

Weekend Trip to P² Farm | Scenic River Camping

My girlfriend and I had a magical weekend at the ranch. It was easy to find- close to Georgetown which has a nice market on Saturdays- yet remote enough to stargaze. We rode horses and played with the goats, ponies, and a litter of 8 7-week old puppies. At night the hosts brought us plenty of firewood for our spot near the horse pasture. It was a very fun and friendly experience all around.

Friendly and welcoming. Nice showers, laundry facilities, bathrooms and common kitchen area. Owners were friendly and welcoming and even offered to help us with some of our travel trailer issues that popped up.

I have nothing but positive things to say about Wendy and Kevin. They are super nice people and came by as I was getting checked in to make sure I got settled. When I accidentally left something at my site, Wendy reached out to me and we were able to get my items back to me. I am looking forward to my next trip to the area and will definitely be staying there again. The facilities clean and well kept. The grounds were beautiful. I arrived in the dark and it was nice to make up to the rolling, tree-covered hills.

We loved camping this weekend in our 5th wheel! Everything about it was fabulous. Becky is a great host. The only thing that was tricky for us, because we arrived after dark, was getting to the right road that lead into the property. When I called, they were very helpful and we slid right into spot #1. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we booked the site again and another spot for friends. I am definitely looking forward to our next adventure!

My Cub is only 21 ft, but deep sites for big rigs. Fairly level with shade.

3 nights at Big Rocks on the Brazos

Shaded sites all around for our 21 footers, yet nice and open grounds. Host was very communicative and available! Sites were deep for larger rigs. Pretty and peaceful setting with roads to walk down, and one can't beat the easy river access on a warm day. Full hookups too! Nice deep fire pits, but mine could've used some cleanup from previous campers. Nice mowed lots, but tons of leaves and some branches on the ground (to be expected this time of year on windy days). Nearby house to sites 3-4 was quiet and went unnoticed! Surprisingly, there's a bit of highway noise from miles away to the West/SW, but not enough to hinder a relaxing time. Plenty of picnic tables! I'm recommending and will return.

Established 1996, The farm is situated just minutes from Magnolia-Silos, the Dr. Pepper museum, Baylor University, the Texas Ranger museum, BSR Waterpark, the Waco Mammoth National Monument (US National Park Service), and plenty of magnificent restaurants. There are no power lines over the property so I invite you to bring a kite to fly! You may even see one or two of mine in the sky. The theme of Coyote Creek Farm is tranquility. McDonald Farm sits in the historic farming community of Jonah, TX between Georgetown and Taylor on scenic Highway 29. McDonald Farm is named after the patriarch of the family, J.H. Mcdonald, who first acquired the property in 1911. The farm sits on the bank of the San Gabriel River and features a lush canopy of huge pecan trees, sprawling corn fields, prairie, and forest. We are a working farm! We primarily grow corn, but we also have livestock on the property. During daytime hours, you will likely see a variety of farm chores being completed. We offer a self-serve farm stand for our customers with fresh eggs, jelly and even pasture raised chicken - all produced on the farm. We are only 7 miles from the Georgetown, TX historical district and square. Some say it’s the most beautiful town square in all of Texas. Enjoy shopping, dining, and festivals! There is road noise. Highway 29 can be busy at times, despite being a two-lane road. Quiet hours are after 10 pm Sunday - Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday. Access to our river site is included in your camping fee. This secluded hike-to (~ 1-2 minute walk) site is peaceful with limestone cliff views and no visible homes or signs of civilization. The trail head is accessed by a dirt road that winds around our corn field and into the woods, and can be accessed by any vehicle in normal weather conditions. We will provide warning/refunds if the river road becomes 4x4 only. Fishing is allowed with a valid Texas fishing license. There is no overnight camping on the San Gabriel River. All camping is at the main farm area and campers are able to come and go from the river site as they please (day or night!).

Leave sites better then you found them and don't cut down anything that is growing. No burn bans if you use the rocked pits and put the fire out before you leave/sleep. Wildflower prairies, rugged canyons, and shady woodlands hug the banks of the Leon River in Mother Neff State Park. Three miles of trails lead the way to scenic lookouts, natural pools, and historical monuments built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. You can even peek inside a cave once inhabited by the Tonkawa people. Wildlife-watching is a popular activity, but after repeated flooding, it’s no longer possible to swim or fish in the river. For campers, the park’s sole Mother Neff Campground has 20 sites with full hookups, plus a group cabin with space for 16 people.

Tips for snagging a campsite

You can reserve sites at the Mother Neff Campground in advance via the Texas State Parks website.
Campsite reservations open five months in advance. The lodge can be booked up to 12 months in advance, and there’s a 2-night minimum stay for weekend bookings.
Campsites can book up on summer and holiday weekends, so make your reservation as early as possible.

When to go

Mother Neff State Park is open year-round, and it’s busiest on weekends in spring, early summer, and fall. Flooding can occur during spring and fall, and trail closures are possible, but the camping area typically remains accessible. Springtime visits are most colorful, when Texas wildflowers bloom throughout the park.
