GET AWAY without going FAR AWAY! Feels like the middle of nowhere, but it's only 25 miles to downtown Austin and 15 miles to the charming little town of Bastrop with its eateries, shops and historic buildings. Spend quiet nights in the country listening to the coyotes howl and the owls hoot. Hike the Roughs or book a river canoe or kayak trip with one of the local outfitters. Bring the family and have a weekend event under the trees and covered shade of our Pony Pavilion! And altho the Happy Horse Band no longer plays for gathered guests in the pavilion, Hollis and her wonderful voice, great stories and sweet ukulele now offer LIVE MUSIC by your very own campfire, for your private enjoyment, in a socially-distanced manner. (See the EXTRAS category to book a 40 minute/weather-permitting show, or a 1-hour Ukulele lesson, or just get with Hollis when you show up at camp) Enjoy the park trails, the Happy Horse on-site Scavenger Hunt, the delightful maze of campground trails (on your bikes!) and the peace and quiet! Happy Horse Hotel is on 22 acres conveniently located between Austin and Bastrop in the Pope Bend of the Colorado River. LCRA's fabulous McKinney Roughs Nature Park is 2 miles up the road, adjacent to the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort. The camp area is 9 secluded, fenced & wooded acres laced with all-dirt flat biking and walking trails on our property. The bird watching is great!

Happy Horse Camping 🏕️ 👍🏼
We loved the location and all of the accommodations. Beaux and Hollis were very friendly and responsive. Ours was a last minute stay and they went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and for us to enjoy our stay. We definitely recommend and look forward to staying there again soon!

Great camping!
I loved this campsite. Hollis and Beaux are fantastic! Beautiful location, great amenities. Loved walking the trails here and doing a scavenger hunt! Very fun! Our dogs loved being here with us as well! We will be back again. We brought our camper and it was easy to pull it in and hook it up! Definitely recommend especially because it is also so close to McKinney Park for great trails.

Officially my favorite camping spot
Happy Horse was absolutely beautiful! And meeting Hollis and Beaux only added to our experience. They are so nice and were super responsive, even saving the day when we forgot something for our camp! There's an opportunity for music at your campsite (I highly recommend) and the chance to do a scavenger hunt as you explore their land. The grounds were meticulously cared for and the amenities a definite bonus! And the star gazing was the best we've experienced at any campsite near Austin. They have primitive camping (what we did), sites with electric and water, and even cabins. So, no matter what you're looking for, or what time of year, you can find it there. And the icing on the cake was the horses (I LOVE horses)! We can't wait to go back!
