John and Nugget were excellent hosts. Property was well suited for our large group, and John made sure we were taken care of. Had a blast sitting round the fire at night and hanging out. Will have to come back and try the trampoline!

John is very friendly and accommodating. The campground is on his property in a very wooded area with many deer and other animals. It is very peaceful and gets cool at night. It was very easy to get to the location and there is a church 5 minutes down the road. 10/10.

My wife and I loved camping on John’s land. We stayed at site 3 which is nicely shaded and close to an outhouse. It’s quiet and peaceful. It’s a little over a hour south of Austin. There are disc golf baskets around the property, which we took full advantage of. For anyone who is planning on visiting San Marcos to go to The Flying Armadillo Disc Golf course- John’s property is minutes away. John is incredibly responsive, helpful, and mindful of his guest’s experience. We’ll certainly be back for more camping adventures.

We loved camping at John’s land it is so beautiful the directions were easy and it’s 15 mins from the river. John is a great spirit loved nugget too. We are definitely coming back.

No frills car camping, highly recommended! John’s land is beautiful and has many sites to choose from with flat places for tents, fire ring, tables and chairs. John is friendly and so are his dogs. He’s done a lot of DIY projects like an outdoor shower, bucket flush toilet, disc golf holes (bring your own discs) and has a few campers, a dump truck and other equipment on site that might not feel like pure nature but it didn’t bother me. If you want a true “pristine natural area” look elsewhere but for weekend car campers it’s a great place. Firewood available on site. 15 mins from downtown.

John was an amazing host and a great guy! This was my first time solo camping as a college student and he went above and beyond with making me feel welcomed on his beautiful property. From the extensive care he puts into this place to his friendly demeanor he was one of the best hosts I’ve ever had ! All the sites he offered were well maintained and you could tell he truly cared for preserving the nature here. He went as far as to check on me here in there while also giving me space to be secluded in my own little world of nature. Also only being 15 mins away from the city of San Marcos was a definite plus. I can’t write everything good I wanna say but not one negative or complaint from my side everything about this place is amazing!

We had such a great stay! John was extremely helpful during our time on this beautiful property, and so were his two sweet dogs who came to say hello! Such a peaceful and quiet spot to spend a long weekend at. Highly recommend staying here! Thank you so much John!

Went during the crispy end of summer and even though it was too hot for October it was a great campsite. Easy to find and navigate to the site. Beautiful views of the stars!

John’s Hipcamp is awesome! I solo camped there for a day and a half and enjoyed the serenity of the Texas Hill Country with rugged nature as far as the eye can see and the stars at night really are big and bright. The vibe is chill and hospitable where you can relax and enjoy nature in peace.

John and the twisted are just one of these persons and places you hope to encounter at a certain point in your life. My partner and I sincerely enjoyed our short stay in the cosy 1968 airstream. The property is loaded with tranquility, good energy and creative pieces for art. Really the only thing we regret was to not be able to stay longer! John is an incredible hospitable, warm-hearted person who carries these human subtilities hard to find these days. We really enjoyed spending some time with him, sharing a lunch on the grill and great conversations! See you soon again brother

John was awesome this place is perfect for a group. Plenty of flat areas to drop a tent and nice cooking area, recommend bringing a small camping stove. Trees all over providing shade and anchor spots for a dog lead or hammock. We are definitely going to book this spot again

RV was everything I expected and more. Only thing I regretted was not starting our vacation earlier so we could stay longer! A/c and small fridge saved the day when we came back from tubing on the Guadalupe.
Perfect place to stay with my 9 year old son for the price. Mr. John was incredibly hospitable and responded in a timely manner. I appreciated his age appropriate interactions with my son, and his willingness to ensure that we were comfortable and accomidated for the duration of our short stay.
This is a fantastic place to put a steak on the fire pit, kick back, and gaze at the stars.
We plan to visit again.

John, the host, is a lovely man and lives on a wonderful property. We had few hiccups but he was very helpful and accommodating and got us going in no time. We found his property intriguing, from antique trucks to a small vegie garden, we loved it all. If you love the nature, this is the spot for you. However, if you are a city dweller then you may struggle.

Great place to stay! John was very helpful and kind. There was a lot of rain on our last day and he came out to help us pack up and make sure we didn’t get stuck in any mud on the way out. The land is close to town, but far enough out to where you can’t hear traffic or anything. It’s an ideal location. The land is a little rocky, but that’s as to be expected in the location it’s in. We would definitely stay here again!

Twisted Oaks is ideal for getting away. John the host, is super gracious to let us use his beautiful property. No running water. But clean compost restroom did just fine.
He’s very prompt and will answer any questions without hesitation.
