Tucked away in the rugged desert landscape of Terlingua, Willow Creek Campground offers a peaceful, off-grid camping experience just minutes from the entrance to Big Bend National Park. Set on 20 private acres, this small, rustic campground provides a quiet, scenic base for exploring the Chihuahuan Desert and surrounding mountains. Guests can choose from a mix of tent and small RV sites, some equipped with water and 30-amp power hookups. The campground features clean bathhouses with hot showers, flush toilets, and a community sink for dishwashing. Fire rings and shade structures are available at select sites, and the wide-open skies make it a perfect spot for stargazing in this official dark skies region. Willow Creek is known for its laid-back atmosphere, desert views, and proximity to hiking, river access, and the quirky charm of the Terlingua Ghost Town. It's an ideal retreat for those seeking solitude, natural beauty, and easy access to West Texas’ wildest places. This site was just as described. It was so nice to have the shaded area in late May as it was reaching temps in the 90s. The bathroom facility was just what I needed. The sky was amazing! You can see the milky way with the naked eye! If I'm ever back in the area, I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here for a spontaneous first-time trip to Big Bend and it was perfect! Beautiful clear landscape to see all the stars at night. Restrooms/showers were nice and clean, and the campsite itself was great. Host was incredibly responsive and kind enough to offer us a nicer camp spot without us even asking! If I come back to Big Bend, we’ll definitely be booking here again.

The location is great. Definitely a break from fast paced life. The biggest bonus is the available bathrooms that have real toilets and shower stalls. The property is well kept of debris and garbage we. The deck with the bench and picnic table welcoming! We will definitely be back again!

Hidden Gem Near Big Bend

If you’re staying anywhere near Big Bend, I can’t recommend Willow Campground in Study Butte enough. The campsites are spacious, quiet, and thoughtfully laid out so you don’t feel stacked on top of other campers. The showers and restrooms were exceptionally clean, which after long dusty days exploring the desert is a massive plus. What truly made the experience stand out though was the hospitality. The host, Ratief, is cool as hell and genuinely one of the friendliest campground hosts I’ve had the pleasure of talking to. He made me feel welcomed from the start, shared some incredible local offroad drives and hidden gems around the area that I otherwise would have never found. Beautiful desert views, great atmosphere, clean facilities, and good people. Exactly the kind of place that makes a Big Bend trip unforgettable. I will absolutely be back.

Great spot for visiting Big Bend and the neighboring towns. Bathroom facility on site is clean and campsites are far enough away that you have a bit of privacy. Well-kept, easy to find, and the perfect location. Site 10 was great as it is just at the entrance and roomy. This will definitely be a place we recommend.

Retief is a very pleasant, knowledgeable, kind hearted man. I really enjoyed getting to know him. Rick his sidekick is the same. I just tent camped . The whole camp is designed well . Clean showers and restrooms. Hot water and electric. I was able to drive to my site in a Toyota Avalon. 👍 Would recommend ( someone did me) or return for sure !! Thanks a lot Ratief and Rick ✌️ Keep entertaining with that guitar! Good stuff.

We had the place almost to ourselves. Large, level ground for the off road trailer and our tent. Bath house was clean. Sink for washing dishes was a bonus. Retief had great communication, greeted us when we pulled in, and offered suggestions for places to go/things to do. We had a great experience and would not hesitate staying here again.

Great place! Really great! You think you ate Boondocking in dark skies and peacefulness but with full services. Really can’t ask for more. We have a 23’ airstream trailer. I would be cautious with anything too much bigger.

If you’re looking for somewhere close and clean to stay near Big Bend National Park this is the place you need to check out. My friend and I had a GREAT experience, the flushable toilets and hot showers were amazing. We will most definitely be back!

We enjoyed our stay being out of town but not far. Loved the sunset, star gazing and coyotes howling! Sites are clean, had firewood supplied and a great sun shade. The shower house with Hit water and flush toilets were very clean and Much appreciated. Directions to site were very accurate. Would definitely recommend this Campground to others. Thank you!

This is my second year in a row staying at Willow Creek. This campground is hard to beat. It’s close enough to all of the sites one would want to check out while visiting the area but far enough away to maintain a sense of privacy. The bathrooms are always clean, the showers are hot and the utility sink for cleaning dishes is a great amenity to have.

We really enjoyed our time at Retief’s camp. He’s got a great piece of land. We were in a van with no shower, so it was wonderful to have a bath house with showers and bathroom included as part of the site. The bath house included 3 showers, one an entire bathroom with toilet and sink, also there were 2 separate toilet rooms. Lots of hot water! There was also an exterior sink area to wash dishes. He did a great job building this bath house and it shows, lots of personal touches with a covered area and seating to look out at the mountains. Definitely recommend this camp to anyone wanting to visit Big Bend NP

Willow Creek was quiet and peaceful. The sunsets were amazing. We were there during a new moon, so it got really dark which made stargazing really nice. The bathhouse was clean and within a short distance to our site. Big Bend National Park is a short drive away, but once inside the park many of the popular hiking trails are about 25 minutes away.

The place was very nice and clean, so what’s the restroom really enjoyed that. I was on site number five. There is a lot of smaller bush growing you’re making it hard to get to your table or your campsite but we made it work.

Beautiful, quiet campground just a few minutes from Terlingua. The ability to put out tent under the covered shelter was really nice, and having electric and water there at the site also made it extra comfortable. The bathhouse was nice too. Friendly host….we have found our base camp for visiting the Big Bend/Terlingua area!

Willow Creek was an excellent campground. Close to everything and had incredible views of the surrounding desert, you could even see Santa Elena Canyon. I also enjoyed the barrooms and showers. When I’m back in Terlingua, I know where I will be staying. 10/10
