Sparrow Bend River Retreat is a beautiful 8 acre multi-site vacation rental property with camping, RV sites and 2 vacation homes. With a private 300yard stretch of the crystal-clear, spring fed MEDINA RIVER your party will spend the day exploring its majestic cliffs and coves, paddling/floating the river (tubes and kayaks for rent), splashing in the shallows, playing yard games on the lawn or sunbathing on a massive bolder. Enjoy a delicious and memorable dinner in Lakehills (15min), Bandera (20min) or Boerne (25min). Or stay in and grill out over the fire, or at the provided grill. Camp sites each have a customized picnic table for you convenience. Spend you evening sharing laughs around the provided firepit as you take in the dazzling canopy of stars. (Firewood available for sale) Our family has always dreamed of hosting a place for families and friends to come enjoy nature however we would have never dreamed of finding a property as unique and beautiful as this. A lake when the water is high, a beautiful river when the waters low. All crowned by a majestic limestone bluff, complete with boulders, coves and endless room for adventures. This land was once a part of a wagon trail along the river and, if you're lucky, you can still find arrowheads along the paths. The property is gated with a high privacy fence along the neighboring borders for security.

This spot is absolutely breathtaking. We went in January so it was fairly quiet, however, we can’t wait to go back when it’s warmer! Having access to the river like this is unmatched. Beautiful grounds, secure in and out access, nicely updated amenities! Can’t recommend enough!

Great peaceful area. Gorgeous spot on the Medina River. The water is a little cold this time of year (Jan) so we didn't swim but, our pup did, & loved it. We saw deer, turkey, & an Axis deer. Lovely area to relax for sure.

Beautiful, well-maintained property with great amenities. The host was very kind, and we enjoyed our overall stay. That said, there were a couple of issues worth noting. RV site 2 was extremely close to the main house, which we did not feel was clearly advertised. Additionally, the dog barking near the RV sites was constant and disruptive. With a bit more transparency and noise control, this could be an even better experience. Thank you!

Tent camping here was amazing. Very close to the river and beautiful views all around. The property wasn’t littered with trash and the bathrooms and showers were well maintained. I have zero complaints with Sparrows Bend, planning another trip already!

A Peaceful Riverside Retreat

We had a wonderful stay at Sparrow Bend River Retreat. The property looked exactly as advertised — the photos were spot on. The walk from our RV spot to the Medina River was short and easy, and the river itself was absolutely beautiful, with crystal-clear water. Seeing deer on the property and enjoying the peaceful setting made it a perfect place to slow down, recharge, and get some fresh air. The sunsets were stunning, and the entire area felt calm and rejuvenating. Everything was very clean, and we appreciated the locked gate, which made it feel like a safe place to leave our off-grid trailer while we explored Kerrville. Angela was fantastic to communicate with — responsive, helpful, and great to deal with. The only minor downsides were some dogs barking nearby, but once we mentioned it to Angela, the neighbor’s dogs quieted down. Honestly, it still beats train or highway noise any day. The hot water for showers didn’t last very long, but it wasn’t a deal-breaker. Overall, this is a beautiful, peaceful retreat that we’d happily return to when we’re looking for rest, nature, and quiet time by the river.

Haven’t been camping in ages and found this place that was not too far away. Beat decision EVER. Site was semi-quiet, clean, bathroom/showers were close and clean. Other amenities were nice and easy to understand. We’re planning another trip there in the future.

unfortunately, i can not recommend this place to anyone. at night you can hear nearby cars racing down streets and loads of dogs barking. not sure why no one else has mentioned this in the reviews? it felt more like camping in someone’s backyard. also, the campsite next to us was partying until 1am and another camper went over and started yelling at them. for the price we paid ($274 for 2nights), this was not worth it at all. we actually left after the first night

The Scamp at Sparrow Bend Resort
Vintage Riverfront Camper on Spring
My fiance and I enjoyed our two night stay at the Scamp! The Scamp is located on a beautiful camping resort on the Medina River! The Scamp is tucked away underneath Juniper trees away from the other campers and we enjoyed the privacy. The Scamp had everything we needed for cooking, dish washing, and coffee in the morning. The Scamp was clean and comfortable for the two of us. The outdoor refrigerator could have been cleaner and the outdoor furniture appeared to be dog friendly, but this didn’t lessen the enjoyment of our stay. Restroom and shower facilities are a very short walk from the scamp and were clean. Short walk down to the beautiful Medina River where we enjoyed a float on our SUP and a swim in the crystal clesr water. You can rent tubes and kayaks if needed. Firewood was available to purchase conveniently on Cash app or Venmo, however we did camp during a Red Flag warning so we couldn’t have a camp fire. (County order and not Sparrow Bend Resort rule) Charcoal grill and charcoal provided for grilling and propane stove in the Scamp. We would highly recommend The Scamp for a couples getaway!

My fiance and I stayed in Forest 2, it was our first time camping and we loved it. The spot was secluded and felt quiet, not far from the restrooms either. Deer would occasionally be around the site at night time while we slept, we didn't mind, but recommended to have food stored away properly and have the trash thrown. We also went fishing by the river and saw some nice fish, the water was nice and clear. Overall awesome experience.

We love the campsite. We came back the second time. It has a lot of space for all our equipment to spread out. The river right next to the cliff is crisp and clear. While we were there, other campers caught decent-sized fish. The shower and restroom facilities are clean and available.

Amazing hidden gem on a beautiful river!!! Great facilities and accommodations. We stayed at Forest 2 secluded camp spot. The camp was full while we were there with about 90% occupancy but we still felt pretty secluded. River access is unbeatable. Some local stores nearby and close to Bandera for restaurants and shopping. Would definitely return.

Site is nice, bathrooms clean, power/water/sewar clean out are available. Slot 1 overlooks the other campsites and has a nice fireplace area. I brought 2 dogs with me and they had alot of room on leash to sit, sleep and play under trees. There was no one in Slot 2, so there was alot of space between me and the next spot which is a house. River is beautiful and there is a walkable path along the riverbank. For Spot 1 you walk down the gravel road to the river. If I had kids or things to bring to sit riverside, a wagon would have been helpful. We found several swimming holes and sat in stillness watching the deer come out. Slot 1 is also where the entry gate is and while I was happy to meet and say hello to people, you do get the car and foot traffic when guests open the gate. I enjoyed seeing the rest of the campers...as it was Thanksgiving time. And RV life is all about meeting new people, which I did! The reason I would say I would maybe recommend site is because the neighbor's dogs (2-4?) barked constantly. During the day its not too inconvenient but at night, its disruptive. Slot 1 and 2 are closest to those neighbors, so if you need to use an RV spot...may want to bring earplugs. Unfortunately it was not the peaceful experience I was looking for, so I left a day early. It is a subjective experience, I tuned it out for a while. I have empathy for the situation having neighbors with outside dogs...as I have dogs too. Thanks for having me!

Loved visiting this gorgeous land. The water is so beautiful I only wish there was more of it 🥲 AMAZING star gazing, bathrooms are very clean and well kept! Bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper as puppers are gonna do what puppers do 🐶 Will definitely be coming back! Thanks so much!

Cozy Riverfront Cottage
We enjoyed our weekend at the cozy cottage. The lodging had more than the essential commodities. The location had a had a spectacular views and pristine river which invite one to bask in the moment. Further, Angela was always available and responsive. We will come back some other time

My son and I had a great camping experience at Sparrow Bend River Retreat. The campsite was great as well as access to the river. It was awesome to be able to see the fish swimming the river because the water was so clear. Will definitely going back in the future

It's a very Pretty camp on the river in Texas Hill Country. The weather didn't cooperate for getting in the water, but it's a great spot, we'll try again if we are passing through.

Such a nice spot on the water, just steps away to crystal clear water with plenty of fish, shallow enough to where the dogs could swim and stand. The host was really accommodating to our needs and made the experience really easy going. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
