Rancho Del Mapache - Big Bend
8 sites · RVs, Tents41 acres · Presidio, TXWe purchased this land in April of 2020 with the intent of restoring and transforming this now feral land into a natural oasis; a restorative, sacred place for flora, fauna, mind, body, and spirit. We love traveling and camping and recognized a need for private camping without the hustle and bustle sometimes experienced on public lands. Rancho del Mapache is still in its infancy, but with your help, we will restore the land to a beautiful, natural, native landscape and preserve it for all to enjoy affordably and privately.  The area of presidio is likely the longest continually settled place in North America, with the history spanning tens of thousands of years. More recently, the Spanish settled the area In the early 1600s, establishing a mission and garrison. Despite extended human habitation, the desert remains remarkably unchanged. Roads are cut, rivers are tapped, new plants appear, still the desert remains. The area also holds the records as the hottest and coldest places in the state of Texas. This 40-acre parcel was once part of the town of Adobes. The area is now called the Adobes Ghost Town. Cotton and sheep were farmed from the mid-1800s until the late 1970s. There are still plenty of artifacts to explore pointing to a tough life in a rugged land. Whatever antiquities you come across, please leave them as they were found so someone else can enjoy the same discovery.

Rio Bravo Ranch
8 sites · RVs, Tents1000 acres · Presidio, TXRio Bravo Ranch is a family owned ranch that borders the Rio Grande and Casa Piedra Road.  We have cultured a love for camping and the outdoors on this ranch as children and young adults.  One day we were sitting on "the backside," enjoying the amazing vistas, solitude and a campfire when the idea came to us that we should share this amazing place with others seeking this type of experience.  We tried to think about what makes camping enjoyable to us - no immediately adjacent campers, a nice fire ring/shade structure, a nice, large tent site and vistas with unobstructed views.  We have incorporated this into our campground design which, when completely finished, will encompass several hundred acres of Chihuahuan desert vistas.  We are also fortunate enough to have a large riparian area on the property.  It is in this area, amongst the 40ft tall cottonwood and willows, we often find Gambel's Quail, Scaled Quail, Javelina and numerous bird species including the occasional turkey.  We would love nothing more than to share this wonderful place, where we grew up, with souls seeking solitude, adventure and inspiration.  Our eastern entrance is just a few miles outside the Big Bend Ranch State Park boundary, conveniently located on Casa Piedra road about 1.6 miles north of FM 170.

Sky Ranch Terlingua
6 sites · RVs, Tents20 acres · Study Butte, TX Sky Ranch is the result of a love for the desert and for 1980s post-apocalyptic movies. A place to step out of our busy lives and be still, gain a new perspective, and imagine a different way to live. Once the floor of a large inland sea, Sky Ranch Terlingua is covered with fossilized mollusk shells. After the water receded, the area was visited by various animal and human migrations. Today, Sky Ranch is a refuge for two native Texans with deep roots that predate Texas itself.  "Be friendly, but firm. But most of all, be yourselves."  - Lester, Cherry 2000

The tiny town of Marfa sits in West Texas, close to Davis Mountains State Park and Big Bend National Park. With a population of just 2,000, Marfa definitely has a remote, small-town feel to it. It's over 6 hours east to the state capital, Austin. Even El Paso is almost 4 hours to the west! Make sure you're stocked up on everything you need before making the drive out here. If you've got a taste for the unexplained, you won't want to miss the chance to see the infamous Marfa Mystery Lights. Strange luminous orbs seem to dance around at dusk in the air close to Highway 90. Researchers believe the lights might be an optical illusion caused by heat haze or car headlights. Less scientifically minded viewers think there might be a paranormal explanation. No one has proved anything either way, though, so go see for yourself! Traveling via RV? Try Tumble In RV Park, which sits a quarter-mile east of Marfa proper. Tumble In is fairly small, with just 14 sites. The site does offer full hookups, strong Wi-Fi access, and tent camping options.
