Learn more about this land: Gorgeous, over the water sunsets all year long! Riverfront on Neuse River, with kayak launch and small swimming and sunbathing beach.  No pull-behind campers, unless they are less than 18', max. R/V 30'. No 30 nor 50 amp elec. Beautiful views of New Bern across the river, particularly gorgeous sunsets. Lots of waterfowl, including resident duck population. Private flush toilet access, as well as hot/cold water deep basin sink with pull-out wand, provided on-site. Great place to Kayak, three available for free use. Nice sandy beach, perfect for taking a dip to cool off :)   Shade trees and picnic table, fire pit.  Lots of fishing opportunities, both from shore and by boat! Launch kayaks easily from shore.  Summertime breezes are usually prevalent from river, keeping bugs down and nights comfortably cool. Take your pick of spot, RV/Van/Truck camping limited to gravel site, tent campers may opt for either shade tree in front yard with level and grass, or gravel site where RVs normally park.  15 amp 110 Electric service, as well as sewage connection available. Concerts in New Bern at converted Maola Milk Plant is now a concert pavilion.  It is located directly across the river from my property.  Union Point is also within paddling distance, and has a host of free concerts nearly every weekend.  See the included photos for scheduling of artists. Mosquitoes are not nearly as bad as they are in many of the other backwater campsites that you will find are located in the upper reaches of the creeks, and typically surrounded by marsh land.  These marshes of Pamlico, Craven and Carteret County are magnets for mosquitoes.  We do not have the amount of stagnant water that is prevalent in a lot of the other sites around the area, as the site is not adjacent, nor near to any marshland.   As well, the river is constantly moving, either by wind and/or current and is not a breeding ground for mosquitoes.  Lastly, normally there is a good breeze to keep them in check.  HOWEVER, as with any outdoor activities in eastern NC, occasionally in the right conditions they are prevalent.  Bring bug spray, JIC! Your privacy is important to me, and though I offer two sites (tent or R/V), I will never book more than one of them for any given night.  The place is all yours, when you are here :) Pet friendly and kenneling options available.  See the many extras we have to offer! Come see Winston, the famous fishing dog! Important notes:    The space is a bit tight for R/Vs or campers with dual slides. No pull behind trailers over 18', else you will have trouble backing into the site.  *During prime season May-Oct., I have a minimum two-night reservation requirement for weekend stays.  Guests MUST book two days to reserve for a weekend. (Friday & Saturday -OR- Saturday & Sunday).  If it is Thursday of any given week and you see that the upcoming weekend is open on my calendar, I will relax this requirement and allow a single-night booking.

No go
Steve and his dog Winston were very welcoming and friendly. However, we cut our two day reservation short, after the first day when we woke up to ants crawling all over our tent (both, inside and outside). We spent the next several hours wrapping our tent, gear, and clothes in trash bags to avoid taking the ants to our next stop (as we were on a two week trip) and washing everything at a nearby laundromat. I contacted Steve about our issues, but he only offered an apology - no offer to refund the second day of our stay (that went unused). The photos make the site look much better than what we experienced in-person. As an experienced primitive camper, I’ve not had these issues in even the most remote locations. I do not recommend this location to others.

Birthday getaway!
Steve's land was perfect! Close enough to town if we wanted to and far enough to be very quiet at night. No mosquitoes was wild, there are some ants so just put your food away. Winston was the absolute sweetest! We will ABSOLUTELY be returning.

A great stay. Even on the hottest of days the breeze and shade trees made it comfortable. Steve was a great host as well. There when you needed him it or just to carry on a conversation but he let you be as much as you wish. The sunset, and nearby train tressel are a photographers dream.

The access to toilet was the only plus. The site is literally his yard and there isn’t a chance for any privacy. He has his windows open all night and the neighbor was up doing who know what all night. Kayaks were dirty and he lacked fire wood for purchase. Bugs were horrible unfortunately. I don’t recommend bringing your dog unless they are very cool with others as his is not on a leash nor is his neighbors. Make sure you put all your food up or something will get into it ( I know my fault) but a cat (or something I heard hissing- could have been a possum) got into our dry goods and ate the hotdog buns. We paid for two nights but left the morning after we got there. Just not enough privacy.

Great sunsets over the Neuse River
Steve was a relaxed and generous host. Site was perfect for our rig and the sunsets and fire pit were magical. Winston the dog was a love, and thr fresh eggs Steve offered made for an epic omelette. Great jumping off point to visit New Bern and Croatan National Forest. Would return In a heartbeat.

Friendly Views
Steve has a wonderful place, the location is amazing and he was a incredible host making us feel very comfortable and welcome. The views are gorgeous and he has the sweetest dog, Winston. To top it all off you are so close to everything in just a very short drive. We will definitely be back to camp here again. One of my favorite Hipcamp spots so far!

Stunning waterfront property!
Gorgeous waterfront property! Steve and his trusty sidekick Winston 🐕 were the perfect hosts. The property sits directly against the river and provides gorgeous views all day long. Took the paddle board out multiple times and the water was calm and beautiful! He also has numerous kayaks available to take out on the water if you'd like. His pup, Winston, is the friendliest, sweetest good boy who will show you all around the property and greet you every morning when you wake up. Loveed my stay and would highly recommend it to others!

Relaxing stay right on the water
Enjoyed a beautiful sunset and a great breakfast on our one night stay. The whole family enjoyed talking with Steve, watching the free range chickens go by, and playing with his dog Winston. Incredible view right on the water. Plenty of room for our roof top tent on the gravel space next to Steve's residence.

Waterfront camping & chickens!
What a great camping site. There was an electrical RV hook up which made “glamping” very comfortable even in the middle of summer. Steve and his dog Winston are great hosts. The kayak was vert nice. Just a lovely site.

Amazing stay with a great host!
Steve’s place was just as described - very quiet and comfortable with a great view! My boyfriend and I drove in from another state and weren’t arriving until after midnight and Steve was more than accommodating. He made sure we had everything we asked for/needed. His jet ski was also 100% worth the extra cost - we had free range of the whole river and really had a great time. I would definitely stay again if I am in the area - Steve was an amazing host!

Outstanding!
Great host, very nice place, and wonderful stay. I could ramble on for days (and will) about how great the stay was. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then Webster's dictionary doesn't have enough to describe it. My compliments!

Do the kayaking
Steve was very knowledgeable about the area and had plenty of suggestions of how to enjoy our time while we were staying at his place. He was very helpful and great conversation. The kayaking was truly special and I’d do it all over again. He was patient and helpful with our two dogs and his dog is a precious.

Sunset on the River
Steve and his Labrador were there to greet me when I arrived. I was able to pitch my tent right near the water. Steve was a great host, inviting me to use his bbq to cook my meal. After dinner I was able to enjoy a beautiful sunset on the river with a fire in the fire pit.

Gorgeous views, generous host!
10/10 would recommend. The location itself is amazing. Waterfront. My dog loved it. Camping here was a big step up from a campsite for sure. Internet. Also you have access to the 1st floor. It was pouring when I got there and Steve helped me set up my tent and was very welcoming about me staying indoors if I needed to to avoid getting down poured on. Steve was an extremely generous host. He set up a cooking station for me even. We shared a few meals and he took me into town for grocery shopping once! The house is getting renovations but that didn’t bother me. The bathroom was in good shape w a big sink For me to wash my dishes etc too. The city New Burn was actually adorable and I would have never visited if it wasn’t for Steve’s affordable HipCamp. I came a day early and stayed a day late. I would come back for sure!!

Beautiful waterfront
This was a great getaway! Steve is a fantastic host (I can’t forget about his dog Winston who was great to have around, too!) and was always available for anything we needed and very accommodating. The property is beautiful and conveniently placed near a lot to do and see, but if you’re camping it has everything you need. I would 100% return! We can’t thank Steve enough for such a great weekend!
