Weekend Trip to The Mill Creek Spread

5/5 stars for Vader. If you dont like dogs then dont waste his time with this site because he deserves all the love for the good work he does. He guided us out to our site, kept us company as we set up, and guided us out the next day when we were leaving. Truly one of the sweetest dogs I have ever encountered. The site itself is really nice for those who like to just pitch a tent and go rustic for a day. We went during the tropical storm, but the trails and camping space were sturdy enough that nothing flooded or got muddy. Do NOT disregard the tiny car warning, some tree gaps only have a space of about 6 1/4 feet. My Jeep Patriot fit fine but it was mirror to mirror in some gaps. The Host was extremely kind and the property is easy to find! Only about 30 minutes from Wrightsville Beach and there are 24/7 gas stations 5 minutes down the road if you are seeking a full bathroom. Highly recommend this place!

Weekend Trip to Canter Lakes Farm

We enjoyed our camping - the space was private and large with a tree swing for the kids. I did not have to worry about being the "loud family" since there were no other campsites nearby. Kayaks were available for use and the kids loved meeting and petting the pony. The hosts, Julie and Scott were awesome and readily available.

2 nights at The Secret Sanctuary Farm

James and Sola were very nice and welcoming! We stayed at Lokis lookout and enjoyed the serenity! Feeding the animals was a nice welcome to the property, and a great way to start off a quiet camping weekend. We found it super convenient that there was lots of camping equipment for cooking that was made available!

I went with my two young boys and we all loved it! We got rained on while we were enjoying Wilmington but the property owners helped us tremendously by letting us use some bedding. They were amazing to communicate with and so helpful! The property was beautiful and we wished we had more time to explore it. We will definitely be back!

I absolutely can’t give enough praise for Jane’s hospitality and for the space itself. This is a kayaker’s dream spot for accessing inner waterways & secluded beaches. Plus you’re 10 minutes’ drive from shops and a 5 minute walk from a delicious restaurant. It’s such a peaceful haven — I spent a lotta time in the hammock watching birds and reading.

Just got back from an awesome RV trip to Sneads Ferry, North Carolina 🏖️! I can't believe how beautiful the area was, it was the perfect getaway. Our RV was super cozy, and it made the trip so much more enjoyable. The host was so friendly. Definitely will be coming back.

Site 8 was perfect for our long weekend beach trip to OIB! Wanted to save money but still wanted to come on the family vacation, so instead of missing out we decided to camp at Connies! Weekend Trip to Wander Inn Campers, Backpackers, RV

Our party of 3 loved staying at Lucian's place! The bed and hammock were comfortable, fans were strong, and the outdoor shower was hot. Lucian was very friendly and was on the porch to meet us at check-in time. There were many amenities provided including cookware and dishes, towels and blankets, coffee, and a few basic toiletries. The location was also awesome being only 30 minutes from the beach and 15 minutes from the Blueberry Festival in Burgaw. We'd love to stay here again next time we're back in the area!

Jane was the warmest kindest host. The site was great and we enjoyed our time down by the water under the stars. Can’t wait to go back!

We were living the dream last week at Canter Lakes Farm! The sun shade and bath house were the key amenities and letting the dog off the leash was a great perk. It was kayaking on the pond that put this location over the top! The hosts are so welcoming, too. Highly recommend.

Also nearby you can go to see the Oak Island lighthouse. You can take the ferry from Southport to Bald Head island, ride golf carts and see the Bald Head Island Lighthouse and learn about saving turtles. Visit Carolina Beach (also known as Pleasure Island) which has a boardwalk, arcades, Brit’s donuts and the marina which offers boat cruises. Kure beach is and Carolina beach are both within about a thirty minute drive. On down the road from Kure beach is Historic Fort Fisher and the NC Aquarium. A truly unique blend of farmland. Including an assortment of friendly animals to interact with. Woodland, wetlands, and a deep spring fed fresh water creek that connects to the Cape Fear River. This is a working farm. Please do not Open any gates to the animals. The fruits and vegetables on the farm are for the members of the farm. Eggs from our chickens will be provided for you to use for breakfast. If you happen to choose a campsite with a kitchen. There is a coffee pot and all cooking utensils. There are four permanent 4 shelters on the property. Composting toilets. Showers are still in the works. All of the shelters have their own composting toilets. Small propane heaters are available for each shelter. The first 1gallon bottle off propane is free with your stay. it will last 5-7 hrs. each additional bottles will cast $6.00 per bottle. There is also solar, powered lights, usb charging stations, fans, and air coolers. each Conestego hut has a locking front door to keep your belongings safe Campfires, hiking, canoeing and kayaking. Kayaks, canoes and lifejackets are available. All the Wilmington beaches are within 30 minutes.

About

Welcome to the wild and scenic part of aptly named Pleasure Island. Enjoy nature or embark upon an adventure in this popular state park. This area is steeped in both history and nature.

Begin with the easy hiking trails, which total 9 miles. Fly Trap Trail is the most interesting because you can see the carnivorous plant along the path. If you're lucky, a bug will pester one of the fly traps when you're watching them.

Follow Oak Toe Trail to the marsh where you can find fiddler crabs, dwarf palmettos, and oak toe trees.

Rent a boat at the marina for a day of fun and sun on the water. Cast your line for some of the best fishing in North Carolina. Prepare for flounder, spot, sheepshead, and speckled trout. Fish on the Cape Fear River or in the Atlantic Ocean.

Around 79 campsites with no hook-ups accommodate RVs and tents. Four camper cabins have air conditioning and bunk beds.

Side note: Bring bug repellent for summer months as flying insects are plentiful.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Carolina Beach State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural beauty is at its peak. Summer brings warmth perfect for water activities, though it's also the busiest season. Winters are quieter but can be chilly, so pack accordingly.

Carolina Beach State Park is a unique park to experience. If you're from the mainland, hiking in this park is like going into a different world. Stubby long-leaf pines abound through the snow white sand which makes up the ground throughout the park while unique carnivorous plants like pitcher plants and Venus fly traps poke up through the brush. Very nice park, definitely check it up if you're in the area, you won't regret it.

Carolina Beach Campground

I arrived after dark and found a perfect campsite - there was a trail at my campsite #74 that led directly to the water. I called the office number to say I arrived late and was lucky that someone was still in the office and said they would wait for me to get to the office and check in. The Ranger that waited, the campsite on the water, the cool breeze in the humid night air - all of it was perfect. I pitched my tent and enjoyed a night of light rain coming down on the tent, which was soothing and I slept great! I loved having sand in my tent in a matter of minutes - I really did! It's the experience of each camping trip that I love! It was quiet the night I was at Carolina Beach State Park and I highly recommend this park!

Great camp sites, clean bath house with hot showers. The trails are good with some awesome scenery. Once you get there it's hard to believe that you are right there on the edge of the town of Carolina Beach. Can't wait to go back!
