The Spruill Farm belonged to the Spruill Family for over a hundred years and has been set up as conservation easement protected land in '23. It includes hardwood forest, swamp, a beautiful swimming beach* on the Albemarle Sound - one of the largest freshwater sounds in the world-, acres of farmland, vegetable garden and perhaps the largest fig orchard for hundreds of miles around. The purpose of the Spruill Farm is to further environmental research, promote ecological education and sustainable practices, and provide access for the public to the ever-diminishing shoreline experience. Please enjoy the incredible sunsets and woodland views, while respecting the serenity of this unique gem on the inner-banks.
Wildlife on the property include Red Fox, River Otter, and 95 species of birds, including Bald Eagles (2 nests on the farm), nesting Osprey, Wood Ducks. Visit the 'Spruill Farm Conservation Project' on inaturalist(dot)org to see all 95 species, and upload any images from your observations.
Because it is a nature preserve, please read the guidelines and rules closely if you choose to book with us.
*Note: the shoreline changes with the wave action and the seasons. The beach is bigger in winter, smaller in summer. These changes make the Bobby Wilkins shoreline trail so beautiful- always changing.

Gator Creek, a secluded natural getaway located near Alligator River on Little Alligator Creek. This is a quiet property surrounded by wetlands and state hunting preserves-perfect for campers who love true wilderness.
Fishing is available all around the area ,and the creek can be reached with a short walk through the woods or by going down the road. There is no clear-cut trail, as I keep the land as natural as possible. A public boat ramp is within walking distance.
With minimal light pollution, Gator Creek offers excellent stargazing and a peaceful wildlife-rich environment. You may spot dragonflies, birds, squirrels ,bears and more, though wildlife sightings are never guaranteed.

The cabin is a new build and it offers a full sized bed with a comfy mattress, a coffee bar that includes: water kettle, french press, coffee, & tea, an electric heater that helps to take the edge off in the colder nights and a big fan for the warmer months.
Even thou the cabin allows only 2 people to sleep in it, we have a designated tent area that allows more guests to bring their tent and enjoy the camp site. There is a four person tent under the bed for use if needed. Please clean and stow tent back the way you found it when done.
Electricity is available, just be mindful of high voltage items while heater is running. NO bed linens and pillows provided. The wing-wall has an easy mechanism of opening and closing; use the cleat on the pole to tie it up. Be mindful of its weight and assist it with your hand as you pull it up.

Boutique Campground in a Hidden Orchard
We are a boutique campground tucked away in a hidden orchard. The well-groomed property sits on a small peninsula surrounded by water on three sides. The creeks around us contain small reds, trout, mullet, gar, and various other species. It’s great fishing for kids, and the area is known for much larger fish if you have a boat.
(Note: we don’t have a boat ramp, but kayaks and paddleboards can be launched easily from shore.) The water is brackish, and locals typically don’t swim in it.
We can accommodate up to eight full-size RVs in drive-through sites (up to 55' in length). Tow vehicles can be detached and parked separately. We can also host four trucks or vans up to 25' in length in back-in sites. RV slots have 50A power and water, while truck and van sites have 30A power and water.
We also offer one primitive tent site, with three to four more planned, and a glamping tent coming in Spring 2026. All sites include picnic tables and fire pits, and tent campers are welcome to use RV sites.
Please note there isn’t much shade, so it can get hot in the middle of summer. This may be fine for RVs, but tent campers should keep an eye on temperatures. Spring, fall, and early winter are especially pleasant — perfect for sitting around a campfire under the stars. With very little light pollution, stargazing is excellent. Small solar torches provide a soft glow at night, but we recommend bringing a flashlight for walking after dark.
Our bathhouse includes toilets and sinks. We do not currently have showers, but we’re working on adding them soon.
As for location, we’re only a 12-minute drive from Oriental, the sailing capital of North Carolina — a charming, friendly town of just 999 residents. Despite its small size, Oriental hosts many local events throughout the year. About 15 minutes in the other direction, you’ll find larger stores like Walmart, as well as health services, laundromats, car washes, and more.
We’re pet-friendly — we have dogs ourselves — and generally very lenient. However, if there are several dogs on the property, we may ask guests to keep theirs on a leash, especially if any show signs of aggression.

Enjoy a quick stay or have a few guests tent camp with you on the property. Sailors and hunters have just a short drive to all your local interest while enjoying complete privacy while you stay.
The cabin is a new build and it offers a full sized bed with a comfy mattress, a coffee bar that includes: water kettle, french press, coffee, & tea, an electric heater that helps to take the edge off in the colder nights and a big fan for the warmer months.
Even thou the cabin allows only 2 people to sleep in it, we have a designated tent area that allows more guests to bring their tent and enjoy the camp site. There is a four person tent under the bed for use if needed. Please clean and stow tent back the way you found it when done.
Electricity is available, just be mindful of high voltage items while heater is running. NO bed linens and pillows provided. The wing-wall has an easy mechanism of opening and closing; use the cleat on the pole to tie it up. Be mindful of its weight and assist it with your hand as you pull it up.

Boutique Campground in a Hidden Orchard
We are a boutique campground tucked away in a hidden orchard. The well-groomed property sits on a small peninsula surrounded by water on three sides. The creeks around us contain small reds, trout, mullet, gar, and various other species. It’s great fishing for kids, and the area is known for much larger fish if you have a boat.
(Note: we don’t have a boat ramp, but kayaks and paddleboards can be launched easily from shore.) The water is brackish, and locals typically don’t swim in it.
We can accommodate up to eight full-size RVs in drive-through sites (up to 55' in length). Tow vehicles can be detached and parked separately. We can also host four trucks or vans up to 25' in length in back-in sites. RV slots have 50A power and water, while truck and van sites have 30A power and water.
We also offer one primitive tent site, with three to four more planned, and a glamping tent coming in Spring 2026. All sites include picnic tables and fire pits, and tent campers are welcome to use RV sites.
Please note there isn’t much shade, so it can get hot in the middle of summer. This may be fine for RVs, but tent campers should keep an eye on temperatures. Spring, fall, and early winter are especially pleasant — perfect for sitting around a campfire under the stars. With very little light pollution, stargazing is excellent. Small solar torches provide a soft glow at night, but we recommend bringing a flashlight for walking after dark.
Our bathhouse includes toilets and sinks. We do not currently have showers, but we’re working on adding them soon.
As for location, we’re only a 12-minute drive from Oriental, the sailing capital of North Carolina — a charming, friendly town of just 999 residents. Despite its small size, Oriental hosts many local events throughout the year. About 15 minutes in the other direction, you’ll find larger stores like Walmart, as well as health services, laundromats, car washes, and more.
We’re pet-friendly — we have dogs ourselves — and generally very lenient. However, if there are several dogs on the property, we may ask guests to keep theirs on a leash, especially if any show signs of aggression.

Perfect hub spot for an Outerbanks vacation. In the middle of all the major sites which made it easy to fit them all in to our week stay. The site is sandy and our two wheel drive struggled to pull our camper up on leveling blocks. Claudine's husband hooked up his four wheel drive and saved the day. That is above and beyond service! The site is in a quiet canal neighborhood and felt safe. Walked a short way down the street to enjoy the sunrise on several days. The bird activity is great, too.

Spruill Conservation Camp is in a beautiful natural setting on the sound with gorgeous bald cypress trees with osprey nests that you can see from your tent. The campsite was clean and ready when we arrived. There was plenty of firewood for purchase (honor system) and water from the pump for use other than drinking. The porta potty was clean and in a good location (close enough but far enough away from the campsite). We brought our kayaks but unfortunately the water was too choppy but we did care, we just enjoyed the sounds. We saw a beautiful sunset from the campsite. We will definitely return!

Staying on Joyce’s property was delightful. It was secluded and private and so peaceful. The property was well-maintained, clean, easy to navigate. The cooking area featured a cooking shed, a large fire ring, a sturdy picnic table, and a spigot with a hose. The restroom insisted of a tidy tent and composting bucket. There was an outdoor shower stall that we utilized, even though it was chilly. The hike to the beautiful waterfront area was short and slightly overgrown, but easy to navigate. We had such a good time and hated leaving. We will be back for sure!

This spot was outstanding! Thoughtful campsites and friendly communicative hosts made everything much easier. The sites are well maintained and the views of the Albermarle Sound are exemplary. Campsite 3 had awesome wooden log benches around the fire pit! The use of kayaks was a delight- take the time if you can to explore the watery cypress coastline and enjoy the sounds and sights. We have a wonderful time. Everything was just right! We will absolutely return! Thank you!

This campsite was absolutely beautiful. There are three campsites on the property all waterfront and well spaced for ample privacy. There were two very clean port-o potty’s, nice picnic tables and fire rings at each site. We stayed at site one which was a nice flat patch nestled in a water-side forest. This is a good site if you have kids because it is in between a water pump, a bathroom and closest to the trails/beach area. There are several nice trails along the property that take you through a picturesque marsh. We saw a bald eagle among other cool wildlife. Spring was a good time to go because we saw little to no bugs. We had a wonderful time and hope to return some day.

My son & I had such a peaceful and relaxing experience. The nature was amazing! We saw a bald eagle, an otter, jumping mullet, crabs & beautiful sunsets. We loved having the kayaks, castnet, fishing rods, grill, etc. The RV itself was just perfect….full fridge, stove, microwave, bathroom, and more. Riz was a fabulous host. This was a great place to camp and was pretty relaxing camping next to the water. Their dogs are very friendly and was nice they visited every so often. Water views are great and even caught three fish. If I had to critique anything, the sites could be labeled better. Didn't really know what was a site amd what wasn't. Only other thing is the geese kept woke me up a few times through the night, but can't do anything about that. All in all, I'd go back.
