The cover photo shows Site #3, On the morning of Sat.Nov 22, 2025, the Farm will host a 5K Perimeter trail run/walk, with Campsite 1 as the finish line. Therefore, it is closed for camping on the 21. Sites 2 and 3* will remain open, but please note there will be extra people in the waterfront area on the morning of Nov 22 until 11am. Note about price increase: Hipcamp has recently increased their commission rate, and this has been reflected in our new price increase of $2 per night. We are very sorry to have to raise our rate. However, we are very pleased with the support and quick feedback that Hipcamp consistently provides. Feel free to ask us any questions about this. Ask us about our annual Fig Festival at in August. Free camping for volunteers. The Spruill Farm belonged to the Spruill Family for over a hundred years and has been set up as conservation easement protected land in '23. It includes hardwood forest, swamp, a beautiful swimming beach* on the Albemarle Sound - one of the largest freshwater sounds in the world-, acres of farmland, vegetable garden and perhaps the largest fig orchard for hundreds of miles around. The purpose of the Spruill Farm is to further environmental research, promote ecological education and sustainable practices, and provide access for the public to the ever-diminishing shoreline experience. Please enjoy the incredible sunsets and woodland views, while respecting the serenity of this unique gem on the inner-banks. Wildlife on the property include Red Fox, River Otter, and 95 species of birds, including Bald Eagles (2 nests on the farm), nesting Osprey, Wood Ducks. Visit the 'Spruill Farm Conservation Project' on inaturalist(dot)org to see all 95 species, and upload any images from your observations. Because it is a nature preserve, please read the guidelines and rules closely if you choose to book with us. *Note: the shoreline changes with the wave action and the seasons. This makes the Bobby Wilkins shoreline trail so beautiful- always changing. Choose a spot to pitch your tent so you can watch the sunset across the water. Cook your dinner over a large fire pit with many benches, and a picnic table. Have a swim before dinner, or cast a fishing line. Two trails begin from this campsite- one through the woods, and the other ('Bobby Wilkins Trail') along the shoreline. There are tree options for hammock camping. NOTE: The limit is now 4 people, but 2 more people(children) are permitted if they are age 17 or under- additional fee of $5.00 each. Please contact us directly before your arrive in order to add this fee. A pump for ground water(not drinking or brushing teeth) and a port o potty are close by. A good yoga mat or inflatable mattress are recommended. Other campers will be guided to turn left before they enter your site, but may be visible while swimming or fishing, and they may walk across a small corner of your site while accessing the hiking trails, or to launch a kayak. The grassy area (Common Area- to the right of the fire pit) heading down to the Bobby Wilkins Trail needs to remain open to vehicles. Look for a map at the entrance gate. DISCLAIMER: In the unlikely event that maintenance is required at this site during the time of your booking, we reserve the right to shift you to either Campsite #2 or #3.

Choose a spot to pitch your tent so you can watch the sunset across the water. Cook your dinner over a fire pit. Have a swim before dinner, or cast a fishing line. NOTE: The limit is now 4 people, but 2 more people(children) are permitted if they are age 17 or under- additional fee of $5.00 each. Please contact us directly before your arrive in order to add this fee. This campsite has a lower level with fire pit near the water's edge (breakwater), and an upper level, where you park your vehicle. (Vehicles are not permitted on the lower level) You are located between Site #2 and the common fishing area, at the end (far left) of the breakwater. A pump for ground water(not drinking or brushing teeth) and a port o potty are about 150 feet away. A good yoga mat or inflatable mattress are recommended. There are also tree options for hammock camping. A small sign will indicate a left turn (for Sites #2 and #3), and Site #3 is almost at the end. NOTE: If you have a long vehicle and conditions are muddy, please consider backing all the way in from the left turn sign - at least 200ft- in order to avoid turning around on the crops -- sometimes seeds are planted that you may not see. DISCLAIMER: In the unlikely event that maintenance is required at this site during the time of your booking, we reserve the right to shift you to either Campsite #1 or #2.

A good yoga mat or inflatable mattress are recommended. Plenty of tree options for hammock sleepers. You are located between Site #1 and Site #3. You and Site #1 share a dirt 'ring road' for entering/exiting, and campers at Site #3 will use that road to access the pump and the port o potty (near your site, but not through it). There are no trails through your site. Campers with small trailers can access this site, but be prepared to back in if necessary. A small sign will indicate a left turn (for #Sites 2 and 3), and a small sign for Site #2 will be about half way down on the right. At which point, you may want to get out of your vehicle and walk in first to decide exactly where you want to park. When you arrive, you will look for a map at the entrance gate. DISCLAIMER: In the unlikely event that maintenance is required at this site during the time of your booking, we reserve the right to shift you to either Campsite #1 or #3.

Fantastic location for coastal camping! Sit by the fire and listen to the sounds of the waves. I enjoyed kayaking and walking the trails. Julia was hospitable and responsive with clear directions.

We absolutely loved the site on the sound! The water looked like glass and the reflection of the trees was beautiful! The sunset was gorgeous, and it was a wonderful place to get out into nature away from all of the noise!! We will be back!

What an amazing campsite! Stunning views over the Albemarle, well-marked nature trails, birdsong. Hawks over the fields during the day, barred owls at night! Very quiet, even with other campers on the property. Virtually no bugs (thank you November!) Julia and Lincoln are awesome hosts, easy to reach and very communicative. Look forward to coming back!

As always, the site is well maintained, owners friendly and amazing....and the views beautiful. We have been here many times and will continue to do so. I absolutely recommend visiting and staying more than a few nights. The area is dog friendly and separated enough from each camp site to have privacy. The ability to purchase dried wood is always a plus!

Great site! Site 2 combines some of pros from sites 1 and 3 and adds a few of its own! The weather was super windy coming off the water but the tree line between the site and the water did break it slightly. There was also enough space to park the truck right up close to the tent to take the brunt of the wind. This site is huge with at least 3 possible spots to put up large tents and a few other possibilities for smaller tents. There is an extra large picnic table and several benches. It is also a nice centralized location for the water pump, wood pile and porta potty. This trip was too windy for a fire, so we cooked inside the tent, but there is a firepit with lots of seating around it. While the weather didn't cooperate this trip, we still had a great time. Can't wait for the next trip! Winter camping, here come!

The land here is gorgeous. Camping out on the edge of the sound brings joys of eagles, osprey, great blue herons, and many other birds. The sunsets and sunrises are dazzling to watch from the campsite. A fire pit helped nip off Autumn cold with a wide canopy of stars above. There’s also a little trail system to walk on.

We had a great time camping at the farm. Being on the water was amazing. We did car camping and got to see sunset and sunrise as well as kayak. The porta potty was very very clean and there is plenty of stocked up fire wood for fires sold at a fair price. We hope to come back one day!

The campsites have perfect waterfront views. Even with all three occupied they are still offer some privacy and plenty of room to spread your gear around. Bring your canoe or kayak. There is water access. The sites were free from litter. Not even a speck was found. There are benches around the fire pits and a picnic table provided. Well-seasoned hardwood firewood is available on site for a nominal fee. A non-potable water well with a pump is available between sites 1 and 2. There are several trails available also. All were on the provided map at the gate. They were maintained and very well marked with signage and color coded ribbons. Even though it’s secluded and VERY dark at night, a locked gate behind us gave us a sense of security. We knew no one was going to trouble us. The host was very communicative. Even though we didn’t require assistance, we knew she was available and eager to help. She provided very detailed maps to the farm and to the camp sites. Follow the instructions and you can’t mess it up. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, it was so peaceful, and look forward to our next visit.

I had an awesome solo weekend getaway. Put simply the area was very private, you’re right next to the water, and you can mentally getaway. I had the pleasure of running into the owner (by accident on the way out, shout out to Julia) and she let me know of the walking trails that were around the property. Super sweet lady and she really cares about your experience. Just book it already and have a good time! I’ll be going back this winter!

I’m a solo female traveler, and safety is very important to me. I did car camping on Julia’s land, and it was such an amazing experience. You get the beauty of the farm, as well as a waterfront view on the campsite. I fell asleep to the sound of owl calls, and I woke up to the soft crashing of the waves. There are clearly marked trails throughout a wooded section of the property with pretty views of the water. I walked the trails before breakfast, and went for a swim in the sound before I left. It was a really peaceful space where I felt completely immersed in nature. I’m planning my trip back already. Thank you Julia, for sharing and maintaining this beautiful land, and for sharing your mission. I also appreciate you checking in on me and making sure everything was going well.

Julia & Lincoln were perfect hosts, The farm itself is a special place. The campsite was more than I even expected. Everything from how they had it set up to how much thought they put into the trails and all the other aspects of the property. The views are incredible and sunset was amazing. Make sure to book time with the kayaks to paddle the Cypress Forest. It's a wonderland within itself. Also. I highly recommend taking time to hike the trail. We will definitely be returning, trying to figure out our next trip dates.

I love the seclusion of the campsites. There are only 3 and they are spaced apart for privacy. I also like that there are 2 port a potties! The only thing was ours was smelling something terrible when we were down wind of it. It obviously hadn't been dumped before we go there. The site itself is great, lots of trees, right on the water and a small sandy beach to walk on. I would live there if I could! Julia has made sure you had what you needed to have a great time. Large fire pit with benches all around and cleaning brushes to clean the top of the grate. Don't worry about water, there is an old hand pump for your water needs, to wash your hands, NOT to drink! If you like to explore there are trails in the woods that you can explore. I always feel very safe there as the gate to the property stays locked. It is the best campsite I have discovered so far. Site 3 was right on the water with the water lapping close by. It was conveniently laid out with a large fire pit and built it prep table at counter height. There was ample firewood.

What a great camping experience at Spruill Conservation Farm! The campsites are nicely tree covered and right along the Albemarle Sound. Owners are attentive but not overly in your space. You can tell they really care about this conservation project. Fire pits are in good shape and the ports-potties are as clean as any I’ve seen. The walking trails were an added bonus. We did the perimeter trail, which loops around to the sound and cypress trees. Don’t miss them! I also rented a kayak and paid for firewood. Really convenient to have and fairly priced. The sound of the waves at night and the cool breeze along the shoreline made this spot extra special. It’s also nice that there are a couple of restaurants nearby if you want to venture pit and grab a bite. I’d definitely come back!

This site was cozy, spacious, and easy to use. I didn't try any kayaking due to the wind, but the trails are pretty and good for a walk. Reckon I'll go back if I'm in the area again.

Gorgeous views here. Before going to bed we watched a breathtaking sunset that lit the sky up in reds, blues, and purples. This site was tucked behind some trees, creating a little haven right along the water. We saw fish jump and birds fly, enjoyed the views, and heard the waves crashing as we fell asleep. 10/10 experience.

Very quiet spot on a great water way, lincoln and Julia are great hip camp host they came by on my 3rd day and we had great conversations. Julia told me about the property having a vast amount of trails in the woods on the property and around the soy bean field. If you are a fisherman then this is a great spot plenty of fish leaping out of the water all 3 days. Spots 1 & 2 are in the woods with lots of shade from the pine trees, spot 3 is the smallest but I required sunlight for my solar so it fit my needs perfect. I'm definitely going to stay here again and bring a fishing rod. It was a real windy labor day weekend so I didn't kayak so FYI be prepared for windy days but you never know. My family truly enjoyed our trip. Even with all 3 sites occupied we had all the privacy we needed. We had a blast using the kayaks and doing a little fishing (although we didn't catch anything but driftwood). This was our 2nd trip to this site and, as long as they'll have us, it will not be our last! We love Spruill Farm!

The campsite was beautiful and quiet! If you don’t like bugs being on you I wouldn’t recommend, they were pretty bad. But just a small downside to the beauty and peace! My dog enjoyed herself even though she doesn’t like water, lots to sniff.
