Canter Lakes Farm offers waterfront camping on 47 acres. We are a private horse farm with beautiful swimming lakes and river access on site via “Sand Hill Creek” At canter lakes farm you can explore over 10 acres of water without ever leaving our property, and hike almost 3 miles of manicured trails here! If you’re an early riser you can witness the magnificent steam rolling in over the lakes, creek and cypress swamp while you sip your coffee at sunrise. Bring your paddle boards and cruise, or warm up with sunny yoga on your private dock. Kayak or John boats can explore the river bends from our property, or even make it out to the big wide cape fear. We are very close to two public boat ramps suitable for larger boats and jet skis. Holly Shelter boat ramp is literally 2 minutes away, Shelter Creek boat ramp is 10 minutes away. Both ramps have a fishing area and allow kayaks/paddle boards. Fishing is good on our ponds and the river year round, (bass, catfish, crappie, bowfin, gar, etc) in June hundreds of wild blueberry plants you can pick and eat. We also have prickly pear cacti for harvesting which you can cook the fruit and paddles over the fire and enjoy. If our trails aren’t enough and you want more adventure, just two miles away is the Holly Shelter game lands entrance where you’ll find thousands of acres for hunting, biking, hiking or horseback riding. And if you’re craving a beach day, Wrightsville beach is just a 30 minute drive away as well as is downtown Wilmington where you can enjoy walking the riverfront for shopping or dining. Stargazing galore! Surrounding the property is privately owned country land- this is a phenomenal place to be amazed by the stars. Photography lovers will be in heaven from the sunrises and sunsets golden hour is magical here! And with the diverse landscape there’s always something to capture. Tent camping or dry rv camping only at this time. Hot Shower, sink and full size toilet are provided in the bath house. No feeding of the horses allowed, or entering fencing. campers are welcome to visit or partake in farm experience with permission. If you’re looking for a yummy bite to eat we recommend chilitos, about 10 minutes away, for some authentic Mexican food! •Nearest gas station, grocery store and restaurants are in Rocky Point, just 12 minutes from us. •Wrightsville Beach - 30-40 minutes depending on traffic •Surf City/Topsail - 35 minutes •Hampstead- 15 minutes •Jacksonville - 38 minutes •Downtown Wilmington - 30 minutes (riverfront/live oak bank pavilion) •urgent care address: 7910 US hwy 117, Rocky point. Sunset cliff fishing site is atop a sandy beach cliff that overlooks a lake and all of canter lakes property. You can take it easy up top and watch the birds fly over, and catch the colorful sky as it changes or walk down to one of the docks and catch some fish or load a kayak or paddle board into the water. (We have 1 paddle board and a few sit on top kayaks, paddles and life jackets available FCFS) All sites have access to river in the back and hiking access to all trails. Walking distance to bathroom, and kids zip line. Guests will have complete privacy here as we are starting with one camp site, only other people you’ll see are farm owners or horse riders. Please ask us about YOGA if interested! Julie is a 200 hour certified vinyasa and hatha yoga teacher and loves to create classes for campers! Yoga classes are held on the grassy hill overlooking the front lake and the rest of the property, or in the morning in the sand on our mini beach - excellent views for sunset or sunrise! The farm is also an excellent place for bird watching, every day birds fly into the lakes at sunrise and sunset, but you can also witness seasonal coastal nesting birds, herons and more! Hiking the trails and identifying footprints in the sand (deer etc) is a great activity for little ones Blueberries and prickly pear cacti can be found within a short walk of your camp site. Large shade sail, Fire pit, and hammock provided. Gunfire, farm/wild animals, and dirt bikes aren’t unusual to hear out here. A nearby property has a dirt bike track and unfortunately some days their bikes can be quite noisy. If you want total isolation and silence then our property may not be for you.** Our farm is 100% a passion hobby! -we could not have it without our campers! All proceeds go to horse feed/ vet bills/ farm expenses! We are home to a few rescue horeses saved from slaughter, and unsafe homes. If you want a beautiful camp site away from it all, this one is for you! Secluded at the back of our 47 acres, right along the creek/river and under the photogenic live oak canopy. This site has a flat sandy area under a large live oak for pitching a tent, but feel free to place your tent, camper or small rv anywhere you’d like in this general area. The site is just feet from our “Sand Hill Creek” access, which is a tributary of the massive northeast Cape Fear River. We do have a 1 paddle board and a few sit on top kayaks with life jackets and paddles available first come first serve. Recommended use would be for fun the lakes, where as a "sit in" kayak would be preferred for the river. One thing to keep in mind is this camp site is almost a half mile from our bath house, so you’ll have to drive back and forth to shower, use the bathroom, get fresh water for drinking etc. **Noise disclaimer: our property is in the country and although it’s typically peaceful, sometimes it may be noisy. This tent/rv site is situated on top of a hill, along a tree line at the back of our farm. Directly behind the site is a trail that runs along a beautiful cypress swamp and tributary of the Northeast Cape Fear River (Sand Hill Creek) The site is located directly off our main driveway, making it easily accessible for all vehicles. The site overlooks a large field of native blue stem, and our horses are visible from this site as well. The river/creek access is located close by for kayaking, fishing and nature watching.

Sunset Cliff Fishing Site
I had a great stay here this long weekend with my sister and 2 dogs! The site is beautiful and spacious, and there’s so much to explore! One of the lakes is just steps away from the campsite and I loved fishing off the dock and relaxing. I caught some huge bass and brim, and the water is so clear by the dock that you can just sit and watch the fish swim. We also enjoyed the two kayaks that were there for us to use! The very large shade canopy and fire pit were great to have and use, and the bath house was a huge bonus!! After a long day in the sun and sand and water, it’s so nice to be able to use a real toilet, sink, and shower while camping! And it’s within walking distance from the site. The beaches on the property are also beautiful with white sand everywhere, and we loved fishing and swimming there. You can also see the horse pastures from the beach, and we enjoyed watching the horses :) Since there are only a few sites on the property, we only ran into other people twice and most of the time it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Julie was very friendly and responsive throughout our stay, making sure we had the best experience possible, and we certainly did! We will definitely be coming back soon!!

So perfect & secluded, kayaking on the river was sooo beautiful! They have different pond access points & provide paddleboards & kayacks if you don’t have. The shower shed is also an amazing idea!

We loved our short stay here! The campsite was spacious, we had plenty of room for our group of 8! The canopy was perfect to escape the afternoon sun and having the kayaks added to the fun! We will definitely return.

We had such a blast camping here! We had a large group and the Live Oak campsite had plenty of space for everyone without being cramped. Its a gorgeous property and the sounds of nature at night are just what you need to reset and unwind. The kids really enjoyed fishing at the creek and swimming/fishing in the ponds. The hosts were super friendly and quick to respond with any questions and their daughter was such a treat coming to say hello and welcome us whenever she saw us! The bathhouse was a little bit of a distance away, especially if you have little kids so we will probably bring a camping toilet next time but other than that, this site was perfect and alittle slice of heaven! We can't wait to come back!

My boys & I had a great time at Canter Lakes Farm! Arriving, the address can kind of sneak up on you. Luckily, the owner sent very detailed instructions on how to get there beforehand so there was very little confusion. The site we stayed at was both isolated for privacy and easy to get to, and just a short, and very scenic, walk to fresh water. The views of the lakes are great, and the owner is super friendly. Would definitely visit again!

Second time here and absolutely love it! The views of the sunset and sunrise are amazing from either end of the property. Owners have cleared out little ‘beach’ areas and there are several kayaks, canoes, etc around. Having running water to use the bathroom and even shower is a huge bonus as all of the land is sandy. There is some semblance of road noise from nearby neighbors and a dirt bike track nearby, but nothing to deter from booking a stay- very peaceful and quiet at night! The owners are super responsive, helpful, and friendly. We will continue booking to help make their farm a dream!

Live Oak - Riverfront
The Live Oak site was beautiful and secluded which I always look for. The hosts were so kind and helpful along the way, even got to see two mini ponies that came to visit the campsite which was such a treat for my kids to see and experience. I am a local, always looking for cool spots to enjoy nature with my family and will certainly book again!! My favorite hip camp stay this far.

The land was easy to access and was overall beautiful. There was some disturbance due to dirt bikes driving constantly for hours on the adjacent property, but this quieted down before night time. Overall good experience that I would suggest to others.

I decided to take a last minute camping trip for the night from Wilmington (only 30 min away!) and was soo pleasantly surprised that this spot is so close to town but you truly feel super secluded! The site itself was well looked after and clean. I took one of the kayaks out and even caught a couple of bass on the pond! Was a great trip for my dog and I. We car camped but tent camping would totally work too! The ground is soft and sandy. Having a bath house with plumbing just a short walk away was also a huge plus!! Thanks yall for a great stay and I can’t wait to come back!

We loved this site and the whole property! It was a nice, private site that was perfect for tent camping and had a fire ring, table, and chair too. The dogs loved getting to run around on the sand, go for a swim, and explore all the trails. The property had great amenities and the hosts were wonderfully responsive. We showed up later after it was already dark and had no problem following the directions to our campsite. We'll definitely be back!

Love this site. Secluded enough to be private. Host was fantastic. We had a great time here. Can't wait to come back in the winter. Definitely would recommend. Just be weary if you are using hammocks. Can be slightly difficult to set up a couple hammocks that would not be in the direct woods. We set ours up perfectly fine by the river but space is slightly limited on hammocks. This site has a lot of space for a tent or camper.

Had a wonderful time staying at the site by the creek. Huge site. Big sky views. Good star gazing. Nice and quiet while there. Went for a quick paddle on the creek a few times when the tide was up. Woke up early to catch beautiful sunrises over the nearby pond. Took a few walks around the property. Want to come again.

This spot was something me and my dog Mia needed. She is big swimmer and the fact there was no other campers makes me very comfortable. We enjoyed very much. I would love if this spot have plugs for other campers, because I am planning to buy my own camper and spend more time outside. I am person who will not go out once gets dark,so bathroom would be nice to have inside the camper. The owners were very responsive and they immediately fixed one issue I had there. WiFi worked perfectly. I would turn the camper to have the door faced to the pond and maybe also put closer to the pond :-) Other than that we have good time and would love to come back with my own camper or using the owners one.

My husband and I loved our stay at canter lakes! We loved waking up and drinking coffee overlooking the water and taking walks to go look at the horses. The property was clean and well maintained. The bathroom and shower were also very clean and a great feature to have while camping. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking to have a cute camping getaway.

My boyfriend and I brought our NuCamp Barefoot travel trailer out camping for the first time here and it was absolutely beautiful! It was super peaceful and a nice large area with everything you need! We’re definitely going to come back with friends very soon!

We enjoyed camping with our campervan on Julia's land. We stayed at the riverfront site and it was well away from everything. It was quiet and peaceful, just what I needed. My mistake was not bringing or asking to borrow a canoe or kayak! The creek looked so cool I was wishing I could paddle around and explore.
