Weekend Trip to Cedar Creek Campground at Elease

Beautiful, private and somewhat enchanted. We felt such a sense of peace here. From the first contact with Mike, we knew it would be special. Large, private lots were scattered throughout the wooded area. Very well landscaped and looking forward to returning when everything is in bloom. If this is any indication of what our retirement will be like, we’re ready to explore now. A lot of love and care has built this place and it shows!

Absolutely beautiful place. The pictures don't do it justice. Well spaced, generously sized sites, and clean, nicely maintained porta-john. The provided wipes are especially nice. The camp hostess rolls out the red carpet. We will definitely be coming back here.

We loved Black River Camping Ventures, it’s a most beautiful and serene landscape. Right on the river the views are magical. Walking up to the point and watching the sunset was a breathtaking moment. They have a lovely beach area to launch kayaks and some wonderful swamp and cypress areas to explore. Catfish in the river make fishing a fun time! The camping areas are large and each feature a fire ring with swing over cooking grate, trash can and picnic table. There are a couple of portable-John’s for use which are kept spotless. They even supply tissue, wipes and sanitizer! Mrs Lisa and Mr Eric were absolutely wonderful hosts, and made sure we had everything we needed for a fabulous time. We recommend very highly this camping site for fun family adventures.

Love this site. Secluded enough to be private. Host was fantastic. We had a great time here. Can't wait to come back in the winter. Definitely would recommend. Just be weary if you are using hammocks. Can be slightly difficult to set up a couple hammocks that would not be in the direct woods. We set ours up perfectly fine by the river but space is slightly limited on hammocks. This site has a lot of space for a tent or camper.

Excellent stay! Beautiful space, very peaceful, short drive to Wilmington. Lots of fun little trails to walk our dog, who had the BEST time. Beautiful goats. Host keeps to themselves while still being very welcoming and warm. The compostable toilet area is as described. The free fire wood is great but I'm very glad they accept donations, the wood kept us warm and entertained with fires for our entire stay so we were happy to give a little back. Would definitely stay again.

Had a wonderful time staying at the site by the creek. Huge site. Big sky views. Good star gazing. Nice and quiet while there. Went for a quick paddle on the creek a few times when the tide was up. Woke up early to catch beautiful sunrises over the nearby pond. Took a few walks around the property. Want to come again.

We are a private horse farm with beautiful swimming lakes and river access on site via “Sand Hill Creek” At canter lakes farm you can explore over 10 acres of water without ever leaving our property, and hike almost 3 miles of manicured trails here! If you’re an early riser you can witness the magnificent steam rolling in over the lakes, creek and cypress swamp while you sip your coffee at sunrise. Bring your paddle boards and cruise, or warm up with sunny yoga on your private dock. Kayak or John boats can explore the river bends from our property, or even make it out to the big wide cape fear. We are very close to two public boat ramps suitable for larger boats and jet skis. Holly Shelter boat ramp is literally 2 minutes away, Shelter Creek boat ramp is 10 minutes away. Both ramps have a fishing area and allow kayaks/paddle boards. Fishing is good on our ponds and the river year round, (bass, catfish, crappie, bowfin, gar, etc) in June hundreds of wild blueberry plants you can pick and eat. The property is located 7 miles off highway 74/76 in Whiteville and 10 miles to Lake Waccamaw, 32 miles to Ocean Isle Beach, 45 miles to Wilmington, 36 miles to North Myrtle Beach. The road is gravel all the way to the camping area with signs for directions. Lake Waccamaw State Park is one of those places you go to just to look around. That’s not to say there aren’t activities to do here, but the nature and wildlife are so stunning that little else is going to be more exciting than simply taking in your surroundings. Lake Waccamaw is one of the most ecologically unique places in the world. Many endemic species of plants and animals call this, and only this place, home. Talk about spreading your wings, these guys haven’t left home for millions of years!

No trip to Lake Waccamaw is complete without checking out the Green Swamp, which contains a few of the area’s rarest plants and animals. When you’ve finally explored to your heart’s content, you can try your hand at fishing or grab yourself a campsite. You may not be one of the endemic species, but you can pretend for a night.

The ideal time to visit Lake Waccamaw State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural beauty is at its peak. Summer brings warmth perfect for water activities, though it can be crowded. Winters are quieter but cooler, so pack accordingly.

Lake Waccamaw Campground

BUGS. Stayed on a June 2015 motorcycle camping trip. If camping down by the water during the summer, bring clothes that cover every square inch of your body including a hat and head net. I had to keep all gear on (including helmet) in order to set up camp.
