This was a 55-acre farm, split in half to accommodate a bypass through Charlottesville, so the previous owners had to give up half the land, and actually moved the house down to the other half of the property! They had to build a land bridge to get to the new home site, so they turned the bridge into a dam and created a beautiful large swimming pond, complete with beach and gazebo. My wife Stephanie and I bought the property in early 2017 and have turned it into a private horse farm, adding pastures, a riding ring, and 6-stall barn. There are ~21 horses who live on the property.
The property is unique in that you can hardly see another house from anywhere on the property and yet we are only 2 miles from
Barracks Rd. Shopping Center, and 4 miles from the University of Virginia.

Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space.
Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. Most of the buildings out front are artist studios (currently for 16 artists). We like to share the camp with others and watch it come back to life.
All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.
We want to share our property with those who want to stay for more than one night, so we do not accept inquiries of single night stays. We also don't offer longterm rentals as we focus on short term camping.

The Farm was originally named 2nd 4o by my parents. They planned to live the 2nd forty years of their lives together on the farm. My parents both grew up on the southside of Chicago - where having a tree in your yard meant that you had "made it". They decided to use the land to grow Christmas trees. This did not last long :) but the saplings my dad planted by hand are still here & maybe 70' tall!
Then my husband & I bought The Farm in 2017 for the 2nd forty years of our life & my parents built their little house right here. My husband and I immediately knew that our dream was to grow a different kind of "tree", so in 2019 we were among the first group to receive our license to grow hemp. We are passionate about both the hemp and cannabis plants!
In 2020 when it finally became legal to grow cannabis, we immediately added that to our garden as well and 2nd 40 to 420 was born, or shall I say planted. We currently rent out our 2 RV's 3 Yurts & primitive sites , we also offer group bookings & Canna-friendly B&B options. We plan to add septic & electric hook-ups for RV's in the near future.

It was built for fishing so it’s not safe to swim due to structures under the water for the fish.
We are only 30 minutes from Carter’s Mountain, Monticello and Jefferson Winery’s. Thistle Gate Winery is only 5 minutes away and 20 minutes to Scottsville were you can enjoy the James River. UVA sports complex is only 30 minutes away and you’re able to go the back way in to skip the gridlock of the traffic.

Camp is wooded acreage centrally located between Massanutten Resort and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Currently very, very basic with improvements happening weekly. Currently 2WD is okay and some clearance preferred like Outback sized vehicles over all. A van can fit in site #3 (The Vanner) but will take a multi point turns to come and go. Country vibe but close to restaurants, and outdoor activities near by making it a great base for activities such as mountain biking, road biking, hiking, skiing/boarding, and the floating/fishing on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. A safe / legal place to park for the night. SUP and Kayaks available free to campers upon request most weekends April 15 to Oct 15

Camp Cove Creek is located in rural Faber, Virginia which is 20 minutes from Charlottesville in beautiful Nelson County. In addition to the many natural features like the Blue Ridge Parkway, Appalachian Trail and the James River, Nelson is home to Wintergreen Resort and Oakridge Estate and hosts events such as the Lok'n Festival, Camp Jeep, and Overland Expo.
Camp Cove Creek was part of my grandparent's Waveland Farm. Originally situated on over 600 acres, the brick antebellum house across the hill was used as a hospital in the Civil War. The camp used to be a horse and cattle farm as well as a flea market and airport with grass airstrip when my mom owned the land. Our vegetable garden was by the swimming hole. The airstrip still maintained as such in order to offer aviation-accessible camping. It is s the future home of Faber Christmas tree farm and features several notable antique vehicles rusting in peace. Some models are of the same make and model featured on TV and film.
Camp Cove Creek is easily accessible via Rt 29 and Rt 6 east (Irish Road). Our property sits at the confluence of Bear and Cove Creeks where wading/hiking/tubing is permitted and encouraged (with water shoes). We are continually trying to improve the site by removing old barbed wire, poison ivy, roadside trash, and invasive plant species in addition to planting Christmas Trees, raising 3 kids, and working 2 full time jobs so please forgive our works in progress!
This is your 30-acre camping playground! Licensed off-road vehicles, ADV and Dual-sport motorcycles, horses, personal electric vehicles and EVEN PRIVATE PLANES are welcomed! Camp anywhere along it or the creeks bordering it. We encourage walking the route first as it has intentionally been left primitive to provide more of an authentic and fun getaway adventure. Overlanding does tend to scratch paint so enter at your own risk! There is a Volleyball Net and Horseshoe set for use as well.
Nearby in the soapstone mining town of Schuyler you can visit the home place of Earl Hamner, best known for his creation of The Waltons TV show. While you're there check out the Waltons Mountain Museum, which happens to be my old elementary school and my parent's former high school. Three creek-side tent sites and an RV site in an enchanted forest! Enjoy well maintained walking trails, hidden treasure boxes, art and game station, scavenger hunts, gnome hide and seek, and learning about a working shiitake mushroom farm! All sites are spaced out for maximum privacy - see map!
Each site includes a large propane grill, fire pit, solar string lights, tables and seating, hammocks, critter proof boxes for food, and firewood available for purchase (conveniently located at the site). Clean composting toilet (serviced 2x a day).
Rental items include tents (we will set up for you), sleeping pads, coolers with ice, potable water jugs, and insect screens.
Within a couple miles of Southern Revere Brewery/Winery and scenic Forrest Green Farm.
There is a lot to do on the property:
* 40 acres with a couple miles of trails you can hike or bike (map provided)

Mane Gait is conveniently located right off route 81 and can accommodate large rigs. You won't find better views of the blue ridge mountains on this gorgeous working horse farm. We have hiking trails through beautiful private scenery for beginners to advanced hikers. Pets are welcome if leashed! Picnic area on site as well as laundry machine. We are 10 minutes from downtown historic Lexington Virginia that provides great restaurants and lots of history in the charming town of Lexington. Site 2 should be booked for smaller campers around 25 feet. Site 1 is better for larger campers. Bathroom is located through the barn just past the white gazebo, first door on the right.

We are a family owned and operated vineyard and farm. Home to Southern Revere Cellars - Farm Brewery and Winery! 70 acres of forest and fields with a small pond and 3 Nigerian Dwarf goats. There are some fish in the pond, but it is catch and release. Fenced dog park and playground located behind the tasting room. Located conveniently between Richmond and Charlottesville only 3 miles off I-64 but feels like the secluded countryside. There are trails around the property to explore as well (please be considerate of other campers if present). You are welcome to visit the playground behind the tasting barn too. Porta john is also available in front of tasting room building, and water hose on East side of building for small amounts of water if needed (not intended to fill camper tanks).

**Please leave no trace and clean up after your pets. Pets must be on leash if coming to tasting room. QUIET HOURS: 10PM-7AM (please be courteous of potential fellow campers on the property).

This is a charming property with lots of space to explore. The lake is gorgeous and teeming with wildlife that comes alive at night. Campsites are well maintained and portapotties are clean. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to camp near water.

We loved tent camping at Chris's site #9! We were less than 10 minutes from the Peaks of Otter trailheads, with awesome views. The babbling stream makes for great background noise and the wood chips make a pretty soft space to pitch your tent (the other spots are gravel). You can keep your vehicle right next to you, which is quite convenient. There's a rope chair, fire pit, and picnic table.
The potable water spigot is a few hundred feet away, near the bathrooms. Bathroom amd shower did the trick, nothing fancy. Just one bathroom with a single person shower in the same room. Bring your own hand towel.

Nice place to stay nearby many great hikes and not far from main thoroughfares. Enjoyed looking at all the old vehicles on the property and walking my dog around. Saw and heard many great birds and caught a good night of sleep despite noise from the adjacent road being pretty noticeable from camp

We really liked this spot for a quick camping getaway from Richmond! We enjoyed the winery with a nice selection of beers on our first night and drove out the Shenandoah NP for a hike on day two. We felt like privacy was really good at this spot. (We didn’t realize campers were at another site until we were packing up.) The fire pit with built in grate and the picnic table made for a nice set up.

We really enjoyed our stay at James River depot! We stayed at site 4. There was plenty of space and great river access. Each site is tucked in the trees along the river so there’s good privacy from the other campers. The porta potty was very clean and convenient. We also love that you can purchase wood onsite. The river and Mountain View’s are great. The trains are close and loud but they didn’t bother us. I think it adds character to the stay. The only thing I didn’t love about our site was that it had three hard plastic style picnic tables and benches that weren’t in the best shape and just kinda junky looking. It takes away from the natural beauty of the site. No table or just one wood picnic table would feel so much better in the space. Overall we loved the property and would definitely return!

Very clean site located near the river and train tracks. Brought back nice childhood memories. We camped in a van at site 5 and Wendy was very responsive to an issue that arose when a camper came on the wrong weekend resulting in limited site space. I was very happy with her resolution. :)

We stayed at the Waterfront Cove site and enjoyed our tent camping. The peaceful surroundings with the beautiful lake, trees, hills and valley made an awesome experience. We enjoyed the friendly goats visiting near our campsite, the beaver swimming daily back and forth, the geese and variety of birds, and the different fishes we caught. We also enjoyed watching other group of campers across the lake from us, there were 3 campsites across the lake in front of us that was occupied and we enjoyed their laughter and the sound of them having fun swimming and kayaking. Cooking on the fire pit grilling our food was nice especially with the good bundle of firewood the host had available for us to purchase. We did not use porta potty because we bought our own and even showered with the potable water available. Steve, the host was very nice and friendly and helpful. We noticed some campers that came during the night and it was dark but Steve came to guide them to their sites. Honestly, this must have been the BEST HIPCAMP site in VA that we have ever been so far in the past 6 years camping at Hipcamp sites. Hope to come back again.

Weekend Trip to Love Ridge Mountain Lodging
My wife and I loved glamping here. The cabin was clean, well maintained and very cozy. The cabin was outfitted like a tiny home with everything we needed to do some cooking, as well as a good size garden tub/ jacuzzi inside. You might get a stop by from the camp site cat (she is very sweet and will hang out with you on the patio) We enjoyed this so much we are planning to come back over the summer; highly recommend Love ridge if you need a cozy cabin in the blue ridge mountains!
