Bald Eagles have been seen on April 27th, 2026! The views are hypnotic, looking down and out over the continental divide. Good morning, and sunsets can be seen from the same spot. Your car is parked within feet of your deck, so Car Campers and experienced campers can enjoy. Designed with campers and dogs in mind. The deck is large (384 square feet) with a tin roof. Some are two-thirds, and some are one-third, depending on what one wants for tent size or sun exposure. (See pictures of each site/deck) Each deck features sun and rain curtains to help keep you comfortable in both sunny and rainy weather. Dogs enjoy a two-gate system that allows guests and dogs to be leash-free and away from the road. All dog owners know to pick up after their pets. The human Private Porta John is cleaned frequently. Lights and electrical outlets are 110V (3 prongs) for YOUR coffee pots, electric grills, mattress inflators, crockpots, electric blankets, fans, etc. I do not provide any electrical appliances, other than counter area lighting and low-level string lights, so one can see the night sky. PMany of my campers will "Pay it Forward" and leave coffee pots, hot plates, fans and such, so count yourself lucky to find a deck with them. I provide chairs, 5 gallons of fresh water in containers, a fickle solar shower, and a pop-up changing room, along with an assortment of camping supplies from dog bowls to antimicrobial. I provide various-size garbage bags to manage your garbage. Your parking area is next to the deck. Black Mountain’s tasty restaurants are 4 miles away, and All Trails is an excellent app for finding trails suited for your interests. Be respectful, please.
Private Glamping Decks with a view that pictures do not do justice. Private decks on a dead-end gravel road mean hopefully the sounds will only be of nature. The conveniences of electricity, porta john, water, chairs, table, roof, cleaning supplies, rain curtains, and astounding views have my Glampers coming back often. Designed with Dogs in mind with a two-gate system and no need for a leash when on the deck. Obnoxious, barking dogs are not welcome, so bring only controlled and well-socialized dogs. Help me keep it dog-friendly. Never block the road with a park car.

If you're looking to escape to the mountains, look no further! Wild Ridge Trail is a place where you can come to unwind, relax, and take in the fresh air of our N.C. mountains! We are located only 10/15 minutes from all of the exciting things Asheville has to offer and just as close to the charming small town of Black Mountain!
The cabin at wild ridge is OFF GRID (meaning no power or running water) but I promise, with our solar panels and rain collection system you won't miss being ON the grid at all! The cabin and the drive (or hike) up was designed for the adventurous at heart! So, drive on up if you have 4WD or AWD and if you don't, no worries! Just park in the designated space, grab your gear and hike on up! (The hike in is steep... about 300 ft but takes less than 5 minutes) We have a cooler up there for any perishables you may have, just bring ice :)
Please note: We have to close the outdoor heated shower during the cold winter months, however we provide an all season 5 gallon solar shower bag to use during this time. We also have a list at the cabin of other places nearby that provide hot showers in the winter months for a small fee.
In the rare event that heavy snow is expected, we will have to close the road leading up to the cabin because of its steepness. If this occurs, you will be given a full refund for the cancellation.
To heat the cabin, there is a un-vented wall mounted heater that heats the space really well! Since the cabin is insulated, the heater works quick to heat the small area up so you will stay nice and cozy!

Wildlife and Nature:
Search for frog eggs and baby ducks among the cattails in the swamp.
Differentiate dozens of bird species along forest paths. Scan the river for kingfishers and spawning bass. Cast a line for catfish in the pond (just be alert for turtles!).
Our Story:
We've been growing here since 2021 on a rented acre. After the property was heavily impacted by Hurricane Helene, we took a leap of faith and officially purchased the parcel in early 2026.
Today, visitors can witness the inspiring, resilient restoration efforts of both humans and nature at work—live stakes, riparian plantings, abundant birdlife, and flourishing new growth!

Hi! Lindsay and Matt West here. Our farm is situated on a 33 acre forested property in the Swannanoa mountains where we grow plants, make pottery and do metalwork. Although our dirt road is ~3/4 mile long, we are just 8 miles from the heart of Asheville, 4.5 miles from Beacon Village in Swannanoa, 9 miles from Black Mountain, and 3 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our property is home to some of the most rare and beautiful wildflowers in the region, wildlife of all kinds, and a wood fired pottery kiln!
We have three spirited dogs who bark and play in the yard, and neighbors who ride motorcycles and make some noise sometimes, so it's not always quiet and peaceful, but it is beautiful and far more private than you'll get at a campground.
This is a working forest farm and studio space, so there will likely be sounds of productivity during daytime hours. We often have plants for sale, as well as pottery, herbs, eggs, and other farm offerings.
We live on a one lane mountain road that is shared by multiple homes. The road is rough in some areas. If you're used to forest service roads, you'll be fine here. If you're used to paved roads, you might find ours a little jarring. My mom drives a little front wheel drive car and makes it here fine, but use your best judgement based on what you're used to. AWD/4WD recommended for ease of parking at the campsite (just in case it has been a wet season, otherwise totally not necessary). We do recommend getting here before dark the first time you arrive if possible for ease of navigation.

Secluded and Gated Off-Grid Mountain Getaway – Near Black Mountain, NC
**It’s tick season so be sure to bring repellent**
Beautiful, private, and gated mountain property about 25 minutes south of the town of Black Mountain. This site is fully off-grid with no utilities and is suitable for tents, car camping, and vans. Very small trailers may be okay, but please note that the driveway is steep and curved, with limited room to turn around at the top of the property. **NOTE**You will most likely need to disconnect the trailer and turn around by hand. While 4x4 is not required (except when there is snow on the ground), any two-wheel drive vehicles will need to keep up a good rate of speed to get up the hill.
Enjoy a large stone fire pit with small cooking grate and a couple of Adirondack chairs (as shown in the photos). A trash bin is also provided near the entry gate.

The site's (there's only one!) first appeal is the amazing view of Bull Mountain Ridge. Beautiful all year long, but particularly in late October when the leaves are in their richest colors. It feels private and tucked away, but is very accessible to all of what the Asheville area has to offer. Downtown is a 15 minute drive; ride services and shuttles are both easy to secure and quite affordable. The backdrop of the site is forested and easy to relax in - the understory is maintained for guest use, providing cooling shade with a stunning view.
I usually try to say hello to folks and make sure they get settled in alright, but let me know if you'd prefer just to come in and have privacy. Don't feel the need to come to the house unless you can't get a hold of me via text and you need assistance. Welcome to my peaceful homestead in the valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This rustic studio space I affectionately call Chicken Church, has been a labor of love, using all the materials I have collected from my many construction projects over the years... and many states. My friends all know who to pass the junk along to. The space is heated with a wood stove and has an antique 1922 wood cook stove--do you know how to cook on one? The kitchen is set up with a sink, water kettle and cooking amenities, including an electric stove.
Bathroom amenities: cold water sink and toilet. No shower inside, but there is an outdoor shower, propane heated. (NOTE: Heater gets removed at first 32° and won't be available in November.)
The main house on the property is within 200 feet, where I share the space with Airbnb guests. There is a close neighbor family to the left, about 250 feet away. Because my property is in a residential neighborhood, respect for neighbors and other guests is greatly appreciated.
Outside, you’ll feel an instant sense of peace and tranquility surrounded by horses, happy, free ranging chickens, abundant woods, gardens, ponds with some new baby geese chicks soon, open lawns and a fire pit for your restful getaway. I have a pup who monitors the outdoors... and to keep it uncomplicated, i cannot accept other pets.
Asheville is about a 12 minute drive: Known as the craft beer capital in the US, there is no shortage of breweries. You don't have to go very far to find a plethora of trails in this town, including the mountain to sea trail which is easily accessible from this neighborhood. The farm to table scene is amazing... so much good food! Eat! Eat! Eat!

This was the best site I've ever been to through hipcamp. Mary, the host was very gracious, and toured me around the small farm which holds numerous comfy and private sites. Not far from my particular site was access to a river view and access. Later that evening Mary hosted a bonfire (and performed music) for a summer intern and their friends and family who were finishing up a summer internship with them. It was a very charming afternoon and evening. I would love to come back. This Hipcamp is new, so I see it blooming in popularity in the near future. Thank you Mary! We had a great time staying here! The hosts seem to have thought about everything you might need. The shower is every bit as good as other reviewers have mentioned. We had four children with us so we had planned for two to sleep in a tent to give us more space (and to give them more adventure!), which we did, though there is plenty of room in the cabin for both the queen floor bed and for people to sleep on the sofa.
The cabin is astonishingly well equipped with high quality supplies and with everything you need from skewers and s'mores supplies to hot tub towels!
The hosts were by far the best hosts we've ever had either at a hip camp or at an Airbnb. They were quick to respond to everything from our silly questions to minor issues - they were around in minutes to replace an empty gas canister on the grill or to change the hot tub temperature for us.
One night the cabin lost power following a storm (as did a lot of houses in the area) and they messaged to check we were ok; see if we needed any lanterns etc. By far the best hosts we've ever had. If only more could be like them!
There was some poison ivy in the yard which I know the hosts had been working on previously, so I guess this is an ongoing challenge for the site. Also, since we had a tent on the tent pad, there wasn't another perfectly level space for the outdoor table and benches, but it worked ok on a bit of a slope.
We had a great visit and loved our time here!

Edwin’s spot is perfect - no notes. There’s a level gravel pad for car camping, an adorable shelter with solar lights and great ambiance at night, and an outhouse a 30 second walk away. The drive up was easy (though unpaved and a little squirrelly at points), but my 4Runner made it up without issue. Great Verizon 5G coverage. Great views.

This was a return stay for me and the stay was even better than the last.
Great WiFi and a peaceful view of the stream.
Weaverville is fantastic and the surrounding towns are easy to get to. The Blue Ridge Parkway is easily accessible within 10-15min.
Thom is a fantastic host who is always present and willing to make sure the stay goes well.
I’ll be back again next summer!

This hipcamp offers great views and is accessible to a ton of trails. The onsite shelter gave us a place to sit and store our gear during a heavy rain storm. The pit bathroom is convenient but the walk to it is a bit steep and I’m glad there were some steps to it.
We couldn’t get the solar lights at the bathroom to work so make sure you have a headlamp and flashlights.

We enjoyed our stay at The Summit cabin. Hans is a very gracious and welcoming host. I love the seclusion and privacy that this site offers. It has all of the glamping essentials. We were able to cook a hot meal on the gas cooktop with the provided cookware and utensils. There is a composting toilet, sink and shower as well as hot and cold running water (provided you conserve usage as there is a limited tank supplied by rainwater). The bedroom is upstairs accessed by an outdoor staircase. There is also a futon downstairs. There is a solar power station that has various ports to charge your devices/phone. The rainy weather made staying in July perfectly comfortable without A/C, but there are heaters for cold weather. Be prepared for a climb and bring shoes with traction. Overall a wonderful off grid experience, we plan to come back!

With pets
I had a great overnight stay at Above the Fray site 285. I knew it was going to be a raining day/evening so it was so nice to have a partial covered deck and rain curtains. My dog and I were able to get cozy and had a lovely night listening to the rain. Waking up to the beautiful Mountain View was such a treat. We had everything we needed and I look forward to another stay here in the future.
