4 nights at 100 Acre Wood

My husband and I had an amazing time staying on Dave’s property. The property is absolutely stunning and Dave is nice enough to give you a tour if you’d like. We booked the up on top site but quickly learned it was going to be too hot without any tree coverage, and Dave was more than willing to allow us to move to the Bruington meadow which provided ample shade and it was much more comfortable! If you have the time take a drive to cascade falls (Dave’s suggestion) for one of the most breathtaking waterfalls and swimming holes. All in all it was an unforgettable holiday weekend and will absolutely be returning day.

Elizabeth was a fantastic host and went above and beyond to help us feel welcome. Our 2.5 year old son had so much fun splashing in the river and visiting with the farm animals. This is THE spot! We will definitely be returning. Highly recommend!! It is hard to come across a spot with full hook ups without being at a busy campground so finding this spot was really nice. We spent all weekend down by the river fishing and floating in some rafts. It is a really peaceful & beautiful spot.

This place is an absolute gem! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the warmest welcome by Dianne, she’s incredibly kind, thoughtful, and genuinely cares about her guests. She made sure we had everything we needed and even checked in on us during our stay to ensure we were comfortable. The location itself is stunning, peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a getaway. My husband, friends and I had an unforgettable time camping under the stars, swimming in the refreshing creek, river tubing, and grilling. It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. If you’re looking for a place to unwind, reconnect with nature, and be hosted by someone who truly goes above and beyond, this is it. We will definitely be back! Stayed two nights in my overlander trailer. Good location for a base camp to day hike Hanging Rock S.P. and Pilot Mountain. Reasonably close to Winston-Salem. Everything in HipCamp description is accurate. Good, flat, pull through area to park rig and nice, flat, large pad for one large tent. Probably tight to make turns for larger RV. All clean and orderly. Nice long-distance views. Good amenities (as described) -- plenty of room, fire pit and wood, two picnic tables, etc. "Poop shed" is just that (a shell of a porta john) but IS NOT a privy or outhouse. Some very minor road noise and farm animals, but not bothersome at all. I will definitely stay again for the purposes of my visit.

4 nights at Peak A View Farm & Camp

Steve and Penny were great host and they own a peice of property that we would love to have. Theywere very responsive and asked us to call if we had any questions. Very few campsites allow you to invite friends and your group is the only ones there. They have an awesome spot on the river to swim or fish but bring your hiking boots it's a trek. The best part of the campsite was the giant overhand with power and lights allowing to socialize with your friends through out the day and way into the night. It is also an awesome shelter to get out of the weather rain or shine. This site is definitely getting put into my favorites on hipcamp.

Weekend Trip to Babbling Brook Campground

This little haven was exactly what we were hoping for this trip - immersion in the outdoors with a few more amenities than just plain camping. Elizabeth’s place was so thoughtfully and creatively designed, and it truly was peaceful. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Great spot right by the water. You can fish, kayak or tube the water. Peaceful spot. Portapotties for camper use and trash cans as well. Unsure if there was a water tap available. There is a playground for kids as well. Fire ring and table for use.

Great little spot with 3 different sites. We stayed at site 2 which has a parking spot/tent spot, shelter with picnic table/chairs and fire pit. Each site has its own fire pit and a shelter which is really nice. The hosts are fantastic and greet you as you come in. They have fire wood and a very clean porta potty bathroom on site. The driveway looks rough but my small hatchback made it across the bridge and down the gravel lot. It's a short driveway just be aware of mud spots when it rains. We definitely are coming back as this was one of the best locations, safe and had just about everything we needed. Thank you Garry & Dianne!

Site 2 with the deck was perfect! Great access to river / swimming hole, nice private area for fire, outlet on deck, and plenty of chairs. Stars are amazing on a clear night, and sleeping with the sounds of the creek was very relaxing.

1 night at Wildwood Heart Farm

It’s not everyday you find a place to camp that feels like home. Wildwood was just that for me. The Mushie Palace is absolutely adorable. Super cozy bedding & perfect pillows. The fireplace has lights that offer a nice ambiance without the heat. The chairs around the fire pit were perfect. The grounds near the sites are beautiful, but the walk down to the mindfulness area, and the creek were even more beautiful. This site was once of the most peaceful places I’ve ever been. I put the fire pit to use and enjoyed hours outside reading. The swim beach isn’t too far from the site, and is a must for hot summer days. Before leaving I got to give the goats and miss Cooper lots of loving. I will most definitely be back soon, hopefully so I can stay longer than just one night.

Jessup Mill

Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. Blue Ridge Ranch

Blue Ridge Ranch, established in December of 2020, is located on 440 acres nestled between two mountain ridges in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The property features an established pasture, mountain ridges, barns, and a homestead. In addition, the ranch is home to five ponds (some stocked and one trophy), more than a mile of trout streams, waterfalls, and hiking trails. Together, they provide the perfect foundation for the establishment of farming, livestock, camping, and community events. All profits of Blue Ridge Ranch go to Hope for His Children, Inc., a 501(c)(3) that conducts youth camps at the ranch. Tours of the ranch are available for $10/person and includes interaction with some farm animals. We pride ourselves in doing everything possible to help our guests have a great experience. We offer coffee during morning hours in our farm store! We are sorry, but we are not able to allow guests to bring ATV's and motorcycles to operate on the property. There are many acres of hay that we must protect and our agritourism insurer does not allow guests to operate ATV's and motorcycles on property.

Hanging Rock is a great place to explore, with a lake and swimming for reasonable price and picnic areas in the park. We are also 20 minutes from Mt Airy, fictitious home of Mayberry.

But if you want the ease and peace of a campsite RIGHT ON THE NEW RIVER with everything just steps from your tent, then come out and claim your site! Redemption: To repair or restore. To make good. This campground represents redemption and healing in so many ways. Our hope is that you will find much peace, joy, and adventure here and we promise to do our best to make it everything you expected and more! Numerous large manicured campsites in an open space DIRECTLY ON THE NEW RIVER where adventures abound! Up to 4 guests and 2 tents per site. Newly constructed tiny home provides GLAMPING at its finest! The Liberty cabin shares a space with a few tent sites along the river. With the addition of Liberty, I have limited the number of campers to 4. (Exceptions may be made for holiday weekends). There is plenty of space for everyone and the cabin sits above the tent sites for amazing views and privacy. While HWY 16 can be a bit noisy during busy times, step into the campsites and let the peaceful noise-canceling river serenity whisk you away. Forest views across the river with endless fireflies and stars that light up the night! Zaloo's Canoes, Kayak, and Tubes is within eyesight and will set you up with an amazing float or paddle down river. Plentiful small mouth bass and trout fishing just steps from your site. Outhouse w/washing station. Fire pits at each site as well as a large communal fire pit and picnic tables. Downtown West Jefferson is just 15 minutes away with local breweries, quaint restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, shopping, music, art, and a wonderful farmer's market from May - October. The quaint little town of Lansing, NC is quickly becoming a favorite stop of mine. Check out the Old Orchard Creek General Store, Pie on the Mountain Pizza, the Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Farm, and Molly Chomper for a perfect day in Ashe County. The New River State Park is an easy walk, float, paddle or drive away. This park is absolutely GORGEOUS and impeccably maintained, including hiking trails, public facilities, showers, boat launch and pick up, etc. Just a short drive to multiple Blue Ridge Parkway entry points for ease of access to Boone, Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, and the Linville Gorge. Mount Jefferson and Grayson Highlands are also just a short drive away for unlimited hiking and incredible mountain views. My personal favorite is hiking with the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands! We have Firewood available for a nominal fee. Just let us know and we will make arrangements to have it ready for you upon arrival. Please respect quiet hours between 10 PM and 8 AM each evening.

Hiking trails can be fairly easy or as steep as your goat would like. there are dirt bike trails near by that can be ridden from camp site. come pan for gold in elk creek. Nice swimming hole at site, motorcycle campers welcome.

Before the Kerr Scott Reservoir was built, in the 40's and 50's, this neighborhood was a local swimming hole and vacation area. Public buses came from neighboring communities so people could boat, swim, camp, and picnic. While we don't have access to the pond, our part of this land still is calling out to people, 'Come, rest, unload your burdens, and find peace.' When we started this project with Hipcamp, we didn't fully realize that we were reconnecting with the history on this property. So, come, take your shoes off, and wade in the creek. Read a book while laying in a hammock. Sit by the fire and chat with family and friends. Come and participate in our little homesteading project, and leave your burdens behind. LOCAL ACTIVITIES: To the west is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 30 minutes away. 15 minutes away is Kerr Scott Dam where you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, as well as other sporting equipment. Fish, go mountain biking on the extensive trails, and hiking. Prayer Mountain is right up the road, about 2 miles away. Heading east, you can find several fine wineries andvineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town. About a half hour away is an Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday. To the northeast, about 45 minutes away, is Stone Mountain. Absolutely fantastic hiking, it is also an old homestead that has been renovated and is open to the public. To the south, there is Rocky Face Park, where there is hiking and rock climbing. Nearby, is Emerald Hollow Mine, where you can go and find, and keep, precious stones you find in the nearby river. There is also a great disk course course, Highland Hills Disc Golf Course, one of the top 25 in the country. There is fun for all ages. Merlefest, the last weekend of April, is a world class Bluegrass festival, is located right in our town. Be sure to look at the activities section below for additional information.

Just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, Stone Mountain State Park is named for the 600-foot granite dome that rises from a valley to create the centerpiece of this outdoor hot spot. Rock climbers scale the towering landmark and look down on Hutchinson Homestead, a restored, 19th-century mountain farm that hosts ranger-led tours. You can also explore the park’s 13,747 rugged acres by hiking its 16 miles of trails that wind through quiet forests abundant with wildlife, or by fly-fishing in more than 17 miles of designated trout waters. Stone Mountain’s cascading waterfalls and brisk mountain streams are perfect for cooling off afterward. A single campground offers 90 sites for tents and RVs, while six permitted backpacking sites lie along Widow's Creek Trail.

Tips for snagging a campsite

Booking in advance is recommended and can be easily done online or by phone up to 11 months in advance.
While reservations are encouraged, any site not reserved is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you have a reservation but can’t arrive by park closing hours on your scheduled arrival date, you must contact the park by 3 pm the next day to reschedule your arrival.
If the campsite is full, you can try Doughton Park about a 30-minute drive away.

When to go

Stone Mountain State Park is open year-round and at its busiest during summer, which is the best time for hiking and educational programming. If visiting in the summer months, it’s a good idea to make reservations and arrive early, especially on weekends. If planning to go rock climbing on Stone Mountain, you may want to avoid the hottest months.

Know before you go

You’ll need a permit and to register with park staff before doing any rock climbing on the face of Stone Mountain.
Pets are allowed in the park (except in buildings and swim areas), but must be on a leash no longer than six feet and cannot be left unattended.
Backcountry camping is only allowed at the designated backpacking sites on a first-come, first-served basis. Camping here is limited to four people per site.
