Shady Rest Campground was opened by by grandfather around 1972.  He and my grandmother were avid travels who wanted to show the Blue Ridge Mountains to other campers who enjoyed a place with beautiful scenery and outdoor activities.  The campground is within 2 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway.  It is also within driving distance to the New River, Stone Mountain State Park and local golf courses.  Trout fishing and hunting are also popular there.  The town of Sparta is within 12 miles and they have several restaurants and live music at different locations.  In the fall the leaves are also a beautiful attraction and the pumpkin patch is a must for the kids!  When the holiday season begins it is also time to take the family and find a Christmas tree during the Choose and Cut. Be sure to check the Allegheny County of Chamber website for all activities!

Blue Ridge Mountains Quiet Serenity
We felt pics were not representative of condition of campground as many pics were dated 2019 and we feel current condition is poor. Not maintained, litter scattered. 2 permanent/long term campers in poor condition. No water or electricity when we arrived. Host did come quickly and said breaker was flipped so this was corrected. Electrical hookup on one site definitely not safe for outdoor installation - non weatherproof plug just hanging with electrical connection hardwired in to an extension cord. Wires were exposed. We opted to move on and find another campground rather than stay the night.

Blue Ridge Quiet Serenity - 2
My second stay at this campground.
This was my second stay . It’s a yearly trip for me now that I found this campground . It’s a basic camp spot , quiet , cool , I was the only camper here for 4 days . Hot showers, flush toilets , electrical and water at the site , plenty of shaded sites and a picnic shelter . Price is always a factor for me and this one can’t be beat . KOA’s are expensive and have a lot of glamor but no privacy and lots of noise with a high price . 2 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway !!! Stone Mountain right up the road !!!!!

Blue Ridge Mountain Tent & RV Camp
It was a nice stay. Had the place to myself most of the evening. Had a bath house, water, and electric at the sites.

Needs TLC
The property is surrounded by roads on three sides, so you can expect light traffic. The shower house was in need of cleaning and upkeep, as is the entire campground. There were numerous standing dead trees and widowmakers above head. A few of the sites were full of brush and tree litter, so they were unusable. Place has promise, but it needs lots of polish.
