Weekend Trip to Paddlers Creekside Campground

Paddlers Campground was exceptional. Easy to make reservations to following GPS directions to arrive there. The off-grid primitive camping is nice and private with a table and fire pit provided at each spacey spot on the creek side bank. Ample space to play badminton, football, etc or rent kayaks or floats and enjoy crystal clear water flowing to New River. We fell asleep listening to fox bark and owls hooting and woke up to a large buck with many point antlers standing close by to our spot. The owners are fantastic at keeping the grounds clean and very outgoing and personable. This has become our number one day trip and hopefully we can schedule more overnights. Love it!

Beautiful area. Easy to access. The creek was fun to play in. Lots of dogs. (I wish mine was Friendlier) the music was awesome! #Brokenhalosband Everyone was so friendly!

Weekend Trip to 100 Acre Wood

100 Acre Wood is a beautiful site with an absolutely lovely host. David was kind enough to meet us at the house to show us the way to the campsite and even took us on a tour of the property, including the woodworking shop! The views of the mountains and the sunset from our tent was something that will bring me back over and over again. The property is well maintained, and there was plenty of firewood both provided and easy to find around the site itself. David sold me on the views of the Up Top campsite during the fall; I'm excited to come back around that time and see for myself!

4 nights at 100 Acre Wood

My husband and I had an amazing time staying on Dave’s property. The property is absolutely stunning and Dave is nice enough to give you a tour if you’d like. We booked the up on top site but quickly learned it was going to be too hot without any tree coverage, and Dave was more than willing to allow us to move to the Bruington meadow which provided ample shade and it was much more comfortable! If you have the time take a drive to cascade falls (Dave’s suggestion) for one of the most breathtaking waterfalls and swimming holes. All in all it was an unforgettable holiday weekend and will absolutely be returning day.

We had a great time. It was such a beautiful and relaxing setting - just what we needed to unplug and connect for a long weekend. Elizabeth was a fantastic host and went above and beyond to help us feel welcome. Our 2.5 year old son had so much fun splashing in the river and visiting with the farm animals. Would totally recommend!!

This is THE spot! We will definitely be returning. Highly recommend!! It is hard to come across a spot with full hook ups without being at a busy campground so finding this spot was really nice. We spent all weekend down by the river fishing and floating in some rafts. It is a really peaceful & beautiful spot.

We had a great experience at Hippie Hollow! We stayed in a pop up camper and had a great time! It’s a spacious camper near the restrooms which is super convenient. Nice restroom and shower, nothing big but definitely enough. The property and creek is absolutely beautiful. We loved getting to experience the ‘Why not Wednesday’ live music by the creek. Our kids, 9 and 10, had a great time swimming, running around, playing with the cats, and even some fishing. Jeremy was super friendly and accommodating as were the other campers. It’s a great little community camp spot. 10 out of 10 recommend!

This place is an absolute gem! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the warmest welcome by Dianne, she’s incredibly kind, thoughtful, and genuinely cares about her guests. She made sure we had everything we needed and even checked in on us during our stay to ensure we were comfortable. The location itself is stunning, peaceful, scenic, and perfect for a getaway. My husband, friends and I had an unforgettable time camping under the stars, swimming in the refreshing creek, river tubing, and grilling. It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. If you’re looking for a place to unwind, reconnect with nature, and be hosted by someone who truly goes above and beyond, this is it. We will definitely be back! Steve and Penny were great host and they own a peice of property that we would love to have. Theywere very responsive and asked us to call if we had any questions. Very few campsites allow you to invite friends and your group is the only ones there. They have an awesome spot on the river to swim or fish but bring your hiking boots it's a trek. The best part of the campsite was the giant overhand with power and lights allowing to socialize with your friends through out the day and way into the night. It is also an awesome shelter to get out of the weather rain or shine. This site is definitely getting put into my favorites on hipcamp.

*TENT CAMPING* We offer primitive camping (tents) along Reed Creek in Wythe County, Virginia. Although we are a primitive campground, we do offer amenities to make your stay comfortable, including portable toilets and trash collection. But if you want the ease and peace of a campsite RIGHT ON THE NEW RIVER with everything just steps from your tent, then come out and claim your site! Redemption: To repair or restore. To make good. This campground represents redemption and healing in so many ways. Our hope is that you will find much peace, joy, and adventure here and we promise to do our best to make it everything you expected and more! Numerous large manicured campsites in an open space DIRECTLY ON THE NEW RIVER where adventures abound! Up to 4 guests and 2 tents per site. Newly constructed tiny home provides GLAMPING at its finest! The Liberty cabin shares a space with a few tent sites along the river. With the addition of Liberty, I have limited the number of campers to 4. (Exceptions may be made for holiday weekends). There is plenty of space for everyone and the cabin sits above the tent sites for amazing views and privacy. While HWY 16 can be a bit noisy during busy times, step into the campsites and let the peaceful noise-canceling river serenity whisk you away. Forest views across the river with endless fireflies and stars that light up the night! Zaloo's Canoes, Kayak, and Tubes is within eyesight and will set you up with an amazing float or paddle down river. Plentiful small mouth bass and trout fishing just steps from your site. Outhouse w/washing station. Fire pits at each site as well as a large communal fire pit and picnic tables. Downtown West Jefferson is just 15 minutes away with local breweries, quaint restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, shopping, music, art, and a wonderful farmer's market from May - October. The quaint little town of Lansing, NC is quickly becoming a favorite stop of mine. Check out the Old Orchard Creek General Store, Pie on the Mountain Pizza, the Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Farm, and Molly Chomper for a perfect day in Ashe County. The New River State Park is an easy walk, float, paddle or drive away. This park is absolutely GORGEOUS and impeccably maintained, including hiking trails, public facilities, showers, boat launch and pick up, etc. Just a short drive to multiple Blue Ridge Parkway entry points for ease of access to Boone, Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, and the Linville Gorge. Mount Jefferson and Grayson Highlands are also just a short drive away for unlimited hiking and incredible mountain views. My personal favorite is hiking with the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands! We have Firewood available for a nominal fee. Just let us know and we will make arrangements to have it ready for you upon arrival. Please respect quiet hours between 10 PM and 8 AM each evening.

Tri Mountain View

Tri Mountain View Campground is located in the Northeast corner of Tennessee in the town of Shady Valley. With an elevation of 2,800 feet, Shady Valley is the second highest town in Tennessee. It is just 26 miles from the Bristol Raceway and the Bristol Caverns. It is just a 15 minute drive to Backbone rock and a short drive to the Appalachian Trail. The property was a Dairy Farm and went out of business in the late 90’s and since then there has been over 3,000 trees planted. Some of these trees include the rare Butternut and Hazelnut, but mostly White Pine, Walnut and Oaks. The property has approximately 1,000 feet of fishing on Beaver dam creek, so we recommend bringing waders. Peak A View Farm & Camp

Welcome to Peak A View Farm & Camp where Rest and Relaxation are a Reality! Come enjoy the beautiful landscape of the western mountains in Ashe County, NC on ninety acres of farmland and forest surrounded by mountain peaks, the New River and breathtaking sunsets. On the drive in, to the southeast you can see Peak Mountain for which the property was named. The mountain is part of the New River State Park and is known for its scenic river views and hiking trails. Two RV buddy campsites are available on the property. Campsite #1 was originally created for our personal use. Campsite #2, so our fellow camping buddies could join us. Although a short drive from our homes, the serenity of the property always makes us feel as if we’ve travelled many miles. Campsites are laid out in an ‘L’ shape which creates the perfect group camping experience. Guests can choose to camp alone or invite others. Campsite 1 and 2 are reserved together as one booking due to the close proximity of the sites. The property is secluded, but easily accessible. Campsites are full hookups which include water, sewer and 50 amp electric. Both sites can accommodate any size RV. They are gravel and level which makes getting set up easy. A 30 x 30 shelter with concrete floor, lights, picnic tables and trash bin is nearby, which is a great asset in any weather. A fire pit and chairs are a nice addition for evening enjoyment. Firewood is provided. WiFi is available. The area is pet friendly. Pets can be off leash, however, you might consider leashing your pet, as wildlife is frequently seen. If your furry friend is anything like our dogs, the chase is on when a deer, squirrel or turkey makes a sudden appearance! During your stay, take a 7/10 mile walk down to the New River. Pull up one of the chairs on the small covered deck overlooking the river, sit back and take in the sounds of the calming waters. Watch floaters, kayakers and canoe navigators pass by or enjoy your own floating, fishing and swimming. On the other side of the river is part of the New River State Park. A 15 minute drive will take you to downtown West Jefferson for restaurants and shopping. Visit the Ashe County Chamber of Commerce online or downtown for information on our county’s many attractions and events.

Jessup Mill

Hi there. Here is a little rundown of everything we do at the mill…. So, as far as camping, there are two main options on either side of the river; the mill yard or primitive camping across the river. In the mill yard, we do festival style camping, meaning that there are no individual campsites per se, but rather a large grassy lawn near the mill and bathhouse with shared fire pits, picnic tables, charcoal grill, and sinks for water/dishes. We also have two platforms up in the woods that are good for a little more privacy and are completely shaded, but do require a small climb up the hill. The bathhouse has three restrooms and hot showers in each. Across the river, there are several more primitive sites that are generally very private and offer great sounds coming from the river and waterfall, but no facilities. Most sites are car accessible, and a 5 minute walk back over to the mill (or a 1 minute drive). Lastly, our newest camping spot on the primitive side is a river front beach right by the dam with space for a several medium sized tents and a private fire pit. The beach is hike-in only (2-3 minutes along a mostly flat trail). Our normal rate is $10 per person per night. Firewood is available for $10 per wheelbarrow load. We accept cash, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, and crypto. We are also fairly flexible on check in/check out times, but just let us know if you’ll be arriving at odd hours. Dogs are generally welcome as long as they are kept on leash. Here is a little rundown of tubing at the mill (May-October, weather permitting). We have two tubing options available. We have a short Fun Run that takes roughly 45 minutes, and cost $10 per person for as many rides as you’d like. The river bends sharply like a horseshoe in this section, so it makes everything accessible by foot traffic. It’s a 3 minute walk up the trail to the dam, put in and float 30-45 minutes (depending on water level), then a 5-10 minute walk back to the mill carrying your tube. There is also the longer Forks Run, which last 3-4 hours (~2.5 river miles), and costs $15. For this, we shuttle you up the river in a vehicle, and you float back to the top of the dam, then 3 minutes walking back to the mill. Most weekends, tubing starts at 11 am and the last Forks Shuttle is around 3 pm, with the Fun Run staying open till around 5. Also, with enough heads up, we can sometimes arrange for trips during the week. Our tubes are required for each person floating for insurance and liability reasons, but you are welcome to bring your own cooler tubes to carry drinks and snacks. Technically, alcohol is not permitted on the river, but what is in your cooler is your business. Either way, please bring ALL trash out with you! Water shoes are recommended, and we have life jackets on request. Most of our tubes come with bottoms and back rests, but a few are open to the water. Most weekends, reservations are not required, but it does help tremendously if we know when you want to come and how many in your group. About

There’s not a single stoplight on the Blue Ridge Parkway to interrupt your driving reverie, but deer, turkey, and the occasional bear might slow you down. The byway links Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. You won’t find any commercial developments along the nation’s most popular scenic drive, but there are eight campgrounds, all of which accommodate tents and RVs, and provide restrooms, water, and dump stations. If parkway campgrounds (open May through October) are full, descend on a state park or mountain town.

Where to go

Shenandoah National Park & Rockfish Gap

The parkway begins at Rockfish Gap on Afton Mountain just south of Shenandoah National Park. Explore the new Crozet Tunnel Trail (bring your flashlight), then kick off your drive south. Nearby campgrounds include Loft Mountain Campground in Shenandoah National Park and Sherando Lake Campground in the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest.

Northern Blue Ridge Parkway

The Parkway curves south along the spine of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with the Appalachian Trail running alongside it all the way to Roanoke. Scenic overlooks share views of rolling farmlands to the east and the lush Shenandoah Valley to the west. Hiking trails climb to overlooks while side roads lead to charming small towns. Spend the night at Otter Creek Campground or continue south to the campground and lodge at the Peaks of Otter, a high-elevation crossroads.

Southwest Virginia

Anchoring southwest Virginia, Roanoke is a welcoming place for a meal and regional culture. Don’t miss a climb to the Roanoke Star, a neon beacon shining over the Roanoke Valley at night. The Parkway continues south, twisting past wineries, mountain music venues, and a historic mill. Camp at Rocky Knob Campground or a nearby state park.

North Carolina High Country

With dark tunnels, roaring waterfalls, and a lush forest backdrop, the Parkway feels untamed in the high country, a region also known for its Appalachian culture and fun mountain towns, which include Boone and Blowing Rock. Brake for the gorgeous scenery at Linville Falls and Mount Mitchell, which is the highest mountain east of the Mississippi River. You’ll find campgrounds at Doughton Park, Julian Price, and Linville Falls.

Asheville & Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Hikers, hippies, and craft beer fans coexist in Asheville, a just-about-perfect mountain town. Camp at the Crabtree Falls Campground or Mount Pisgah Campground along the Parkway or wait until entering Great Smoky Mountains National Park at the end of your scenic journey. There are nine developed campgrounds in the national park. Glamping options, from cabins to tiny houses to yurts, are plentiful in the surrounding mountain foothills.

Due to the hurricane, the parkway is difficult to navigate in NC. There are a lot of closures and detours. The Cascades hiking trail was unreachable, though it stated it was open online.

Peaks of Otter Campground

We arrived at 645 pm just before the campground closed. We were able to check in, but if you arrive late, you can pitch your tent and sign in and pay via envelope. No outside firewood is allowed, but the store a short drive away sells bundles, as does the Peaks of Otter Lodge nearby. We stayed at site A 25. The campground wasn't empty, but prive sites were easy to find. The weather was perfect, our tent pad was flat, and the facilities were more than adequate. The campground is a few hundred yards from the trailhead for Sharp Top Mountain, and not much further to a few less strenuous trails.
