"HYTTE" is a Norwegian word that translates to "cabin" or "cottage' in English. Hytte are small, wooden houses that are often built in the countryside or forest. They are typically rustic and simple, with basic furniture and utilities like a table ,chairs, bed and heat source. They are not equipped with running water or electricity. Ours have solar! The idea of hytte includes freedom, frugality and a simple life. We offer Steinhytte-the stone cabin, Trehytte- the wood cabin , Rosahvalhytte-the pink whale cabin and Furuhytte-the pine cabin. Come embrace what the Scandinavian people have been doing for hundreds of years. Unplug, unwind, relax and enjoy nature. See it through the eyes of your childhood. Play. Live. Breathe. Welcome to our little piece of heaven! Our property offers a variety of activities for you to enjoy and a variety of camping options. Set up camp in a tent, hammock, a car, a bus, or stay in one of our primitive dry camping cabins. All camp areas are private from our home, with a porta potty and well water available. Please be aware-we are a working farm. There is sometimes noise and if you are sensitive bring earplugs, headphones, etc... The ducks chatter and talk the night away, the dogs do bark if Bambi-Baloo-Thumper or their chicken siblings hang too close to the pens. We have wildlife here! Owls, coyotes, bear and deer some are more musical than others. Please be aware! Never put your hands where you can't see! North Carolina has several poisonous snakes and although we don't see them often, we are playing in their playground There are mosquitoes, ticks, fire ants (esp. after a good rain) and critters outdoors. Always bring bug spray even if you think you may not need it! To avoid unwanted interaction, keep tents/screens on cabins zipped or closed when not in use. Make sure food is "buttoned up" for the night and be aware of any crumbs or scraps dropped on the ground or in cabins. This will invite unwanted guests of all types. Be aware and observant where you walk and use a flashlight or headlamp at night. We will not be responsible for injury, bites, stings, etc... Be smart and camp safe! There are MANY things to do in our area that are low cost to free, which is an added plus for any families coming to visit! Just ask me and I'll give you suggestions depending on your budget. Plenty of stuff for grown-ups too! Walmart Express is less than three miles away and Walmart Supercenter is less than five miles away. Smithfields BBQ, Chinese and Bojangles are close by. There are two wonderful restaurants nearby El Mexicano and Riverside a Pizza/subs place that will deliver camp side too! Be sure to mention what site number you are camped! If you love the ocean, the beach is just a short distance away. Emerald Isle is ten miles away, Ft. Macon is twelve miles away. These both have public beaches and Ft. Macon offers hot showers if you don't opt for our cold one! Hikers will love the nearby trails and abundant hiking options from poccosin (bogs) swamps to the Mountain to Sea Trail. Our property is perfect for outdoor adventure and exploration. If you prefer a more relaxing stay, you can stay on our property and enjoy a refreshing swim in our pond or cozy up by a campfire. Bring your s'mores gear to belly up to a picnic table. Birdwatching is a popular activity here as we are a family-run bird farm with a variety of feathered friends including ducks, chickens, guineas, geese, turkey and even an emu or two! We offer mini tours of the animals when we feed up and kids like to help gather eggs. Just reserve the "Feeding time" and a head count. We are passionate about birds and love to share our knowledge with our guests. The porta toilet is located at the end of the emu pen and well water is available in front of the barn. Any vehicle over 6' will have to enter/exit on West (left) side of the pond due to low clearance. Cold water shower available. (Let me define...high tech redneck style; a hose with multi option spigot.) Our property is also conveniently located near the historic towns of Beaufort and New Bern, perfect for a day trip. There are nearby stores and farmers markets where you can get fresh veggies, and we are always willing to suggest places to go. You can also visit Fort Macon, Hammocks Beach, Carteret County Speedway, the NC Aquarium, local farms, live music at The Gardens and more. Go see a local mud bog on Saturday nights or check out the local Bogue Sound distillery and fabulous seafood restaurants, which is just a short drive away. Bring your boat because we have plenty of space to park and can direct you to whichever type of waterway you want to be on. There are nearby private fishing charters, horseback riding and ferry adventures to go see the ponies. Better yet go visit the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort and get inspired to sign up to build your own boat. They offer excellent sea themed classes for the children during the summer. Sign up early because they fill up fast. Just one of our neat local treasures. We know people/locations to get you going for beach fishing, kayaking, hunting, and tons more. Don't forget there are many festivals, parades and floatillas nearby to enjoy. Mumfest in New Bern is always awesome and don't forget the NC Seafood Festival. During Winter carriage rides can be arranged through historical New Bern. We are open year-round, and Wintertime is a delight at the beach. Come visit us during the holiday season to enjoy the lights and cuddle up to a cozy campfire. The cabins are heated by propane, and we can have a tank ready for you when you arrive for an extra charge. A single 20 lb tank typically lasts four days. Light a luminary to float on the pond to make your New Year begin just right even just for a special occasion! We ask that no one smokes inside the cabins for the safety of yourself and allergies to other campers. Thank you in advance and please police your butts. We try to keep the area tidy. Please do not feed anything to our birds! Each species has a specialized diet and just one food item wrong could kill them. Small spot ideal for one small tent or car camping. Log bench and firepit. Level grassy elevation. This is a smaller site and gives access to the grill and additional seating at the South end of the pond by the swimming area. It is not suitable for a larger vehicle. Direct access to the pond. We block all traffic on the West side so no one drives thru your camp. Heat up a fire and cook your meal directly on top of the antique firebox using only foil. Take a nighttime dip in the pond before you tuck in for the night. Make yourself a drink, cozy by the fire and watch the solar fairy lights come on around the pond.

Only the large tent spot or hytte is available in this space unless both are used by one family for privacy. Located on the north end of the pond with a beautiful view of the barn and pond. Sunsets are the best time to have a cool drink and enjoy the peace and solitude. Level grassy elevation.

Small cabin with a few comforts from home. Comfy full-size bed with cozy comforter or quilt option. There is a twin trundle under the bed. Feel like you're sleeping under the stars or enjoy a pond view drink at night from the deck. Wake up to a view of the poccosin woods or straight onto the water. Picnic table, seating, fire pit, coffee pot, hammocks are close at hand, and tiles to place your camp stove on. Play in the pond and paddle your kayak around. It's the perfect place to get a little beginner paddler in their own boat! Children are welcome to try their first camping tent on our safe, gated property. Private and relaxing. Bring your cooler and kick back. Solar-powered lights and two usb places to charge your phone. We offer a perk old school coffee pot you are welcome to borrow. It just makes it taste good! You are welcome to use what you need in the cabinet. Just leave it on the porch when you leave and I'll wash it up for our next campers. Relax in the hammocks. We ask that no cooking or smoking in done inside the cabin! If you move or rearrange anything inside or outside the cabin please put it back where you found it! This cozy little cabin is perfect for a writer or single person who wants to get away from it all. It has a full bed and space for a full mattress on the floor with a view of the pond. You'll also have access to a private seating area and fire pit. Log bench by front entrance and hammocks nearby. Solar lights provide illumination at night, and there's a 2-usb convenient spot to charge your phone. The cabin has a rustic wood feel, with an Italian marble counter where you can prep dinner or set up our coffee pot to brew on your stove. Doors on two walls open completely up for views and a breeze. Solar lighting and a place to charge your phone. Your own seating area, firepit, picnic and prep table await a fresh fish from the sea and maybe some yummy veggies from our local market stand. Pitching a tent or have more family stay with you on this site for an additional $25 a night. We ask that no cooking or smoking is done inside the cabin! A nest in the woods. Sublime early morning view of the woods sitting at the kitchen nook table to drink your morning coffee watching the sun come out of the East right into this space. Comfortable, cozy bed with just the right amount of blankets. Two solar fans to keep the temps just right. Interior kitchen table seats four. Additional XL camp cot under the bed for a child or two if they sleep feet to feet. Back deck for private sitting time. Firepit. One hammock and six seater table/chair set outside available. Complete privacy at the very back of our property. Please be considerate of our county curfew and neighbors. Please ask if there is a fire ban when you come as this site is adjacent to the Croatan National Forest. You are welcome to set up a tent at no extra charge at this site. Be food safe and don't leave food out to avoid unwanted wildlife from entering camp. (Don't ask the ants to breakfast either!) If you move/ rearrange our items, please put them back where you found them! The price is discounted as of right now as we have more clearing up to do when guests are not present. It will be going up in Jan. 2027. Dogs can be off leash but need to be in cabin at night. We ask that no cooking or smoking in done inside the cabin. There is a stainless steel table on the back porch for setting up your grill and/or stove. There is a bump out tent site nearby that comes along with the rental for kiddos to have their own space if they want. There are two usb ports to charge your phones. If you move or rearrange anything inside or outside the cabin please put it back where you found it! Come and fall in love with your own private camp in the tall pines of Eastern North Carolina.

Site #8 is privately tucked in the pond corner of the woods behind the pond. There is zero pond view just lots of lovely trees. Truly tucked away and private you will hear some of our farm sounds but are more likely to hear the owls and coyotes. This cabin offers the sea theme in the woods. There are some games, cards, and an old oil lamp that reflects beautiful light at night in the cabin. Turn on the overhead "fairy seaweed" and feel the magic of staying in a tiny space. It offers a Twin XL bed and standard twin trundle below. There's a proper bench and small counterspace to write, draw and muse if needed. We have pre-gamed a stay and the granddaughters give it a five thumbs up. We ask that no cooking or smoking in done inside the cabin! If you move or rearrange anything inside or outside the cabin please put it back where you found it!

"Orkenhytte"-Out West cabin

Orkenhytte translates to "West cabin". Not only is it located on the western side of our property but it was inspired from being fresh back from a cross-country camp trip starting in Utah. I was thinking only of desert, cactus and all the little things that I relate to that environment for me. Aliens, dinosaurs, sand and bright Latino colors. Vibrancy! So based on that, you can come stay in our 6 x 8 modified Starlight Meteorite pop up style camper to see if you grab my love for the WEST! It a small, cozy space with a desert themed decor. Scoop up one of the drums to try a new beat, grab a pen and notebook to write a poem or just take a nap in the hammock. There is a Kokopelli table available with a portable charcoal grill for your cooking. Inside are two solar powered lights to do any late-night coloring. Lay in the bed and watch the mini prayer flags catch a breeze from the pond. Think on good things and be grateful for our beautiful planet. Tucked in the edge of the woods behind the pond. This site is located directly across from site #8-Rosahvalhytte. Its great if you just need the extra bed for a body in conjunction with the other cabin. There is a wall, so you have privacy if your camping solo. Direct access to the trail to the pond. There is NO firepit available at this site. Service dog only. This is a small space designed for sleeping.

I had such a fantastic stay at Black Barn Farm! The property itself is awesome... beautiful, peaceful, and with so much to explore. Getting in and out was easy; the road coming in is a little bumpy, but nothing that caused us any problems. Jennifer and her husband, John, were absolutely wonderful hosts! They were so welcoming, helpful, and hospitable. John even helped me get my trailer set up and made sure I was able to connect water directly to it, which made a HUGE difference and was so appreciated. The farm itself is just a really fun place to stay. There’s a great pond, the tiny homes they have for guests are incredibly cool, and we loved all the animals—especially the ducks, chickens, and turtle. It has that perfect combination of feeling like you’re tucked away on a farm while still being close enough to explore the coast. They're only about 20–30 minutes from Morehead City and Beaufort. I took a trip over to Shackleford Banks, which was fantastic. So there’s plenty to do nearby, but honestly, it was also just really nice hanging out and exploring the farm. Overall, I had a GREAT experience. Jennifer and John went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable, and I would absolutely stay at Black Barn Farm again. Highly recommend!

Cute cabin with solar lights and fans, lots of windows for moonlight and screens allowing us to keep the doors open all night to enjoy the sounds of nature 😊 Jennifer was a gracious hostess, great communication and accommodated a late arrival for us, would definitely stay again!

One of a Kind Spot

I would recommend this spot 100%! I’ve been coming here for over 2 years now. I come when I need rest, want to feel childlike wonder again, or would like to enjoy some fresh air. I’ve camped in a tent as well as most of the extraordinary cabins. The family on the property is compassionate, creative, and extremely kind. The animals are a bonus!

We had such a wonderful stay at the "Steinhytte" - Stone Cabin at Black Barn Farm! The hosts were incredibly kind and even took the time to give us a tour of the whole space when we arrived. The location was very easy to find, yet felt completely peaceful and gorgeous. Especially at night under the stars with the little twinkle lights all around. Definitely a perfect rustic glamping experience. We’d love to come back!

Jennifer and her family are super chill and there if you need anything. The pond is relaxing to hang out by and very prettily lit up by solar lights at night. All the farm animals were cute and just did their own thing. The portapotties and cold shower were not my favorite; my personal preference would have been a compost toilet and outdoor shower instead, but I'm just not a fan of enclosed spaces. My wife and I felt safe and welcome and it was easy peasy to drive up to Atlantic Beach for the day so all around it was a great beach-camping spot.

Jennifer is the most generous host. She is very thoughtful in the details and offers access and assistance to what ever is needed to ensure the experience was enjoyable for lasting memories. We plan to come again. The area is quiet and peaceful. The pond is well appreciated on hot days. A store for needed supplies like icel is conveniently down the road.

Absolutely GORGEOUS space!!!!!!! Unbelievably beautiful. We camped right off the pond (unfortunately had too old of a tent so we got rained out) in both our tent and one of the amazing tiny cabins. We felt so welcomed, taken care of, and had so much to do on site + fantastic beach recommendations! We were so impressed with the animals and land projects!!! This place is really special!!! Highly recommend 🙌🏾🥰💕

I love the experience. They were nice, the cabin was clean, beautiful, and magical. The porta-potty was amazing clean, like smelled way better than me at the end of the day. The animals were cute, polite, and gave me space while not running away because I was out near them. Check in and check out was easy. They explained everything, answered questions regarding their farm. Will definitely return hopefully with a less busy schedule of events, so I can enjoy the peace this place brings.

The land was very charming with lots to explore. We enjoyed canoeing and swimming on the pond. The cabin is simple but saved us from packing an tent and bedding, which is exactly what we were looking for Jennifer was responsive to all our needs. We will likely come again!

"Orkenhytte"-Out West cabin
Jennifer and her husband are absolutely wonderful, flexible, and attentive hosts! Their property is incredibly peaceful, creative, and serene. The little camp trailer I stayed in is uniquely decorated and has so much charm. My only critique is that the trailer and the makeshift porta-potty shower needed a more thorough deep clean and regular maintenance before arrival to make the amenities comfortable to use. I think they have the space, potential, and genuine innovativeness to create something much better. With a bit more regular maintenance and upkeep, this place would easily be a 10/10 stay. It has amazing potential, and I truly hope to see it thrive!

Jennifer and Jon were the best host ever, they showed us around the entire property and truly welcomed us. They were happy to help at all times from answering question to providing fire wood. The pond was really fun to swim in as there are many sand bars and depths of water. Each campsite has its own privacy but with interestingly enough open access that you can be friendly with neighbors and create a community with your Hipcamp comrades. The property has an assortment of animals, to include a lot of wildlife. This was certainly the best place I’ve stayed at through Hipcamp!!!

Well what can we say it was super relaxing and exactly what we are looking for. Jennifer and John were great hosts and quick to respond. Great location! Close to everything we wanted to check out. Great for a home base as you explore the attractions around you! Our border Collie Buddy had a great time! He didn't know quite what to make of the Emu! It was great seeing all types of animals and the stars were amazing! Thanks again Jennifer and John we will be back!

The hosts were warm, inviting and accommodating. We were there to celebrate my friend’s birthday and they brought hand-picked flowers. The cabin was ample and we loved the deck to the pond and the fire pit. Although we didn’t get a chance to try the zip line over the pond, we will definitely return to give it a shot.

This was my second stay at Black Barn Farm. It’s peaceful and quiet and so close to the beach. The little huts are very quaint and cozy! The owners are very understanding and accommodating. I would 100% recommend staying here and will hopefully be back again!

Hi pup and I had an ABSOLUTE blast staying in our woodlands trehytte! We slept so soundly with the sounds of nature surrounding us. Jennifer helped us build our fire on the first night and it rained the second (fine, I listened to a spooky podcast and crocheted inside the hytte. The beaches are close and spectacular! Fried grouper at Surf's Up Grill & Bar on Emerald Isle hit the spot. We will 100% be back!
