A small homestead on the bank of Abbotts Creek near where it feeds into High Rock Lake. Peace and solitude , but close to the amenities of town. Less than a five minute drive to the grocery store, and less than a fifteen minute drive to uptown Lexington. Public access for kayaks is less than half a mile away. And the view is unbelievable! We have a corn hole board and bags now available for use, as well as a few other yard games. Please let us know if you are interested in using them. The edible landscape is available for you to enjoy. A list of current available items is posted in our greenhouse, as well as baskets for picking and foraging.

Guests have asked for a place to set up their own tents, and we made it happen. Creekside Camp is a semi-private space on roughly 1/2 acre, but with access to the remainder of our property. The space includes a 16’ x 16’ platform with railing, an outhouse with a sawdust composting toilet (stocked with quality tp and hand sanitizer). If you have previously stayed at our bell tent (Mni Wiconi), this is the platform that previously housed the 16’ bell tent. The property is scattered with solar lighting, but a headlamp and/or flashlight are highly recommended. Bring your camp chairs to sit around the fire pit. We don’t supply firewood to this site, but you are welcome to bring your own, forage for fallen branches and twigs, or to purchase a wagon of slab/firewood blend from us for $10/wagon. Bring charcoal to use on the park style grill, or purchase a bag from us ($8 for an 8 lb bag). A short walk up our driveway will take you to our private outdoor garden shower with HOT and cold water. It’s the gray structure between our home and the window greenhouse. We keep our shower well stocked with quality shampoos, conditioners, and soaps. It’s a favorite amenity of guests! On our porch you will find a farmhouse sink with potable water, and hot water as well if you have anything you may need to wash during your stay.

When we were a young homeschooling and homesteading family, we were constantly on a quest for unique family experiences. This cabin is a mesh of our experiences and daydreams. This rustic 12 x 14 cabin stands where our family lived in a camper for our first year on this land, before our home was built. The porch is the most beautiful spot to sit and enjoy a morning cup of locally roasted coffee, or for watching a storm roll in. Filled with games, books, puzzles, and activities to fill your rainy moments, and the great outdoors to fill your sunny moments. We’ve filled the cabin with items we and our children have handcrafted over the years, and some things that just make us smile. It overlooks our fenced pasture that currently houses sheep and pigs. Beyond that is Abbotts Creek, which we highly recommend for peaceful still water kayaking. There is a public kayak launch less than 1/2 mile away from the site. Beyond that, rolling hills. ****The cabin is semi-primitive, without lights or running water. Bring headlamps and flashlights, or allow your eyes to adjust to the beauty of the night sky. There is a water spigot outside the cabin, and close access to a the fanciest outhouse you’ve ever seen, and a spacious and private, well stocked, outdoor garden shower with hot and cold water. A custom built cooler is handy on the porch of the cabin as well for keeping your snacks and beverages cool. Bring ice, purchase some from us, or pick some up less than at from a small locally owned store or Dollar General less than a mile away. WiFi is NOT available at the cabin. The loft of the cabin is outfitted with a full size bed, and a collection of games, books, puzzles, and quilts. Linens are provided for the bed, as well as dish towels and towels for the shower. The lower level has a small wood cook stove. Dishes, cast iron cookware for the stove, a tea kettle, and French press are provided, along with some delicious locally roasted coffee. Stools and a comfortable rocking chair can be moved around to clear the space to hang two hammocks to the sides of the dining table. Two double nest ENO hammocks are provided for your use, as well as hooks to hang them on the lower level. The cabin is you are welcome to bring a tent to set up for additional sleeping space. This is a primitive site, and not recommended for small children, or people with limited mobility. There are exposed roots to be tripped over, uneven ground, ant hills, and the steps leading up the the cabin are handcrafted from stone and wood, and lacking hand rails. The only access to the loft is a steep ladder, and the loft headspace is low. You may hit your head if you’re not careful. There are insects and snakes, and sharp fallen twigs, and opportunities for adventure. If that is what you are seeking, then this is the place for you. Solar lights have been placed around the property so you can find your way more easily in the dark, but headlamps and flashlights are recommended. The lights do give it a fairyland appearance at night that is impossible to describe. The property is unique with a couple of fire pits, yard games, and an ever changing seasonal edible landscape. You have access to the property. Just please be respectful of personal and private spaces. We have renovated our chicken coop, and have fresh eggs for most of the year. Wildlife and bird watching is always a favorite activity. Many deer cross our property daily, and several rare birds have been spotted as well. We live on the property, so we are available to answer any questions that may arise. Approach us! We don’t want to interfere with your getaway, but we would love to meet you. We have several free roaming feral cats, and a few dogs that live on our property, but stay contained within their fenced yard and in our house. Because of this, we only allow pets on leashes that are friendly around other dogs and cats. We look forward to your visit.

My best friend wanted to celebrate her birthday in nature, and this spot has been on my Hipcamp bucket list so we booked it for a girls’ trip, and it did not disappoint! The hosts make you feel welcomed while still giving you complete privacy. I’m honestly surprised this place isn’t listed under the stargazing category because it felt like we were in a dome, we saw so many constellations plus Jupiter and Saturn! The farm is clean, beautiful, and peaceful. The animals were adorable, but Jack was the star of the trip his perfectly timed laugh kept us cracking up all weekend. The greenhouse was awesome, but the outdoor shower was the true winner for all of us. The products were top-tier and the water pressure/temperature were perfect! This is a true hidden gem. We walked the on-site trail to Abbott’s Creek it’s HUGE, definitely kayak ready, and even good for fishing. The massive cypress trees along the water are breathtaking. We’re already planning more trips here because it’s perfect for everyone: families, couples, friend groups, or solo travelers. You don’t have to worry about ice, wood, or charcoal since you can buy them on-site, and if you don’t want to cook, you’re less than 5 miles from food and gas stations. Plus, so many attractions are nearby right now you can even visit the troll less than 20 minutes from the cabin! Highly recommend bringing a telescope. Thank you N & D for hosting us 10/10!

This place was so much fun, my kids requested that we go back every weekend! My kids are 6 and 9. This was a great place to set up and relax. We played lots of wiffleball/baseball. There's plenty of space for that at both campsites. We enjoyed feeding the fire all day, and we had art time. The kids also LOVED the garden shed with little knick-knacks to buy. A favorite was the salts that change the color of the fire. We will be coming back!

Cool spot! Came down for my birthday so that was nice. Everything here has been done with care, intent and purpose is what I observed. Tried to figure the amount of work that has been done here and could not. Hot water shower was great. Learned about a composting toilet. Visited some with Jack the donkey. Little cabin was cool especially the windows which worked on a kind of swivel and peg system. Didn't use the stove but found it intriguing and imagined myself warming up next to it in the winter. Good area for jogging also, hence the appreciation for the shower. Wish I had collected some black walnuts. Would definitely book again

The site was beautiful and thoughtfully arranged. The animals were a treat to interact with, especially the big pigs and sassy donkey. Darryl was a gracious host and made time to greet us and answer questions about the farm. We loved the greenhouse and artistic touches in the garden. Distant road noise and the pig feeding contraption disrupted sleep at times, but may be easily solved with a white noise machine. Would recommend, and hope to visit again.

A perfect getaway just an hour away from Charlotte. Would absolutely stay again. We chose the tent site and appreciated the wooden platform which was plenty spacious for our tent and our hefty camp kitchen setup. The camp shower was absolutely magical in the early morning with the open air. The provided towels and shower products were very thoughtful. Because everybody needs a bathroom, I want to call out that the composting toilet outhouse was very clean and thoughtfully set up for a nice primitive bathroom situation. The farm has a small creek on the property which was a short walk away. The animals were adorable. Great BBQ in nearby downtown Lexington. I do recommend bringing earplugs and/or a sound machine as there is some road noise at night.

We had such a wonderful weekend getaway at Natalie and Darrell’s property! From the start, Natalie was incredibly responsive and answered all of my questions quickly. Meeting both her and Darrell was a pleasure, they were so kind and welcoming. The campsite itself was private, clean, and well kept, which made it the perfect place to relax. One of the highlights was seeing all of the farm animals, especially their donkey, Jack, who completely stole our hearts! They also provided us with plenty of firewood at a very fair price, which made our evenings by the fire even better. If you’re looking for a peaceful spot to camp with kind hosts, a great setup, and some friendly farm animals to greet you, I highly recommend staying here. It was truly a wonderful experience, and we’d be happy to return!

Natalie’s place was PHENOMENAL- she’s truly a born hostess. If your definition of luxury if the same as mine, that “they thought of everything” feeling, then this is the most luxurious rental available. Everything screamed “we truly care” - they had little mosquito coils, fire starter, fire wood, etc for us, plus they took the time to fully prepare the beautiful wood stove so all we had to do was light it. They also had a little mini store with great prices for important things (like $2 ice bags and $10 headlamps). The land was gorgeous & easy to find, the animals were all friendly, the outhouse and outdoor shower were impeccably clean, plus they brought us fresh eggs! I cannot rave enough, this was a lovely experience for a weekend getaway. Cannot wait to return :)

One of the best camping experiences I’ve ever had. The cabin is cozy, but nothing beats sleeping under the stars, being awakened by a donkey, and befriending a couple of pigs over coffee. Will definitely be back!

HOTEL FOR WHAT??? #FARMLIFE

Let me start by saying this which was the most important thing. I FELT SAFE AND WELCOME DURING MY STAY. I gifted myself some much needed time alone for my birthday and the property and people were so wonderful. The farm, the garden, the lake (even though the water was low) everything was a great vibe. During the day I walked the property, picked fresh vegetables and herbs, and watched the animals interact with eachother. Have you ever seen a donkey and cow taking a walk together? Well I did, and I do t know if that’s special but it felt special to me. They had Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioner in the outdoor shower(IYKYK) now I’m trying to order some for my house. I took a black girl shower outside(that just means I pampered myself) Outdoor pooping is not as bad as I seems, the sawdust really does work to kill the smells and I only saw 1 big fat caterpillar in there and I think he was just trying to get out the rain. Now I am not a fan of walking in the dark but it’s about 20-30 ft. From the cabin to the outhouse so I did run with my phone and light (pointless fear) I should have included this first and it really is important. Darrell and Natalie are really nice people and I feel like they are really operating with love. Because they could have ignored me the whole time and proceeded with their day but they made sure to welcome me and encourage me to explore. I’m coming back and bringing my children so they can enjoy this space as I did.

The Perfect Peaceful Retreat

The Dancing Pig on Abbots Creek Everything about this property screams love and patient care, from the riot of big and little plants to the large raised tent platform to the cute outhouse to the awesome outdoor shower. Natalie and Darrell are so welcoming, and they have created a very special, peaceful retreat. A wonderful collection of birds, butterflies, and dragonflies kept me company each day, and the donkey’s call made me laugh. The short hike to Abbots Creek brought me to a sturdy bench on which to relax, observe different water fowl and marvel at the bald cypress. I especially enjoyed the little surprises tucked around the property waiting to be seen. So delightful! My 5 nights here could not have been better! Thank you, Natalie and Darrell for putting your love and care into this property and especially for sharing it! I predict you’ll see me again!!

We loved our stay here. The cabin had everything we needed, and it was fun to browse produce at the greenhouse and add extras to our dinner. The property is beautiful, great view of the pasture and animals from the front porch, and the walk to the river was nice (and full of hidden gnomes to find). Natalie is a great host and answered all our questions. We would definitely stay here again!

We lived staying at the cabin. N & D are excellent hosts. We were positively surprised about all the little small details that were taken care of. Everything you may need for a camping/cabin stay is thought of. Our young son had a blast meeting chickens, pigs, Jack the donkey and the sheep. Great property with creek access and nice views. Would recommend staying here if you want to unwind in the woods. We might be back it was so much fun!

We really enjoyed our stay at Abbott Creek Farm! The property was peaceful, spacious, and surrounded by beautiful scenery. The host was kind and responsive, and we felt very welcome throughout our stay. We especially loved seeing the farm animals at sunset, it added such a sweet, grounding touch to the experience. The outdoor shower in the morning sun was a highlight too, so refreshing and relaxing. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a calm, nature-filled getaway!

Wow! We are so blessed to have found this beautiful site. We loved wandering and exploring the land, picking fresh blackberries, and saying hi to the animals (the donkey is our great friend!). Thank you Natalie & Darrel for being such awesome hosts - even though we arrived very late at night, we were given good instructions and left a lantern to find our lovely cabin. Hoping to come back and spend more time here, it is a true gem.

I couldn't possibly put into words just how perfect this site and these hosts were. The creekside camp site is quiet and out of the way. The bathroom is so nice, and well stocked. The candles were a wonderful touch that made evenings by the fire easy. We saw so so many bunnies just from our site. The stroll over to the creek was easy, and had the most adorable little bench to sit and relax. We loved feeding the pigs and Jack the donkey. The stocked greenhouse was a great addition. Being able to borrow or buy nearly anything you could possibly need. The property is beautiful and an inspiration for all. By and far the outdoor shower was a life saver. Being able to clean off after a long sweaty day kayaking was a blessing. And being able to break camp and get clean made the long drive home pleasant. Natalie and Darrel truly have thought of everything. And this site has the most friendly, homey atmosphere imaginable. Bring some extra lanterns along as it gets dark. And make sure to enjoy the swimming hole 10 minutes down the road. Thank you so much for everything 🙂. Give Jack a cookie for us. We will be back.

I initially booked the tiny cabin, but while on the road I checked for directions and realized I booked the wrong date! Whoops! Natalie was SO great and was able to book the tent site instead! It was just me and my daughter (8 years old) who is also autistic and can struggle with changing expectations .. but WOW!! I think we actually lucked out with this sweet campsite! We also brought along our 2 rescue pups for their first camping experience and they loved it! We did end up in a big storm, but with the awesome platform built there was no worries of flooding the tent! We bought the wood and the bag of ice, they even have a cooler chest right there on the platform! The compost toilet is super cool and located right next to the spot so no worries of stumbling through the night to “go” My daughter LOVED the animals and getting to pick wild berries! The pups got into some mud but it was so nice to just pop right up to the outdoor shower and get squeaky clean! To feel so secluded and yet so close to all the convenient stuff you may need.. this camping spot is definitely top of our list now!
