Bring your family & friends so you all can camp together under the stars in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. This 50-acre family-owned property is located in the heart of Apple Hill. There are two streams that run through it, with a hill that separates them. It is a working Christmas tree farm that was started in the 1960s and now has many trees that are too big to fit in anyone's home but provide an unbelievable canopy for some of our campsites. About 1/3 of it is covered in a pine forest (with secluded campsites) with the balance being Christmas trees, Manzanita brush, Madrone trees, and open areas for larger group campers. There are trails throughout the property for visitors to enjoy. There is an Apple Farm across the street that makes the best donuts in Apple Hill! Less than a mile away is a farm brewery and there are wineries throughout the area. There is also a large lake nearby that is a favorite for local kayak and canoe enthusiasts (and some who enjoy fishing) since most non-locals don't know it exists.
Please see the Madrone Tree Hill listing for more details on what's here and nearby!!!
Two group sites have been created for two different types of camping experiences. (TWO-night minimum stay.) The first is a large open area (bring your RV's and/or shade covers) that is on the south end of the property, next to a plantation of 500+ Christmas trees. It includes a large level area, a fire ring*, its own [RV] parking area, and even has a stage if you want to get really creative for daytime activities! (There is an additional fee for usage of the stage - please see this under the "Extras.") The second area is at the top of the hill in the forest. This is a more tranquil site since it is among the pine & Madrone trees and hidden away. A campfire may be allowed, depending on the time of year and fire size. Vehicles can load & unload in this area, but it is recommended that they be parked in the parking area about 50 yards away. (Up to 4 vehicles may remain parked on this Hilltop site.)
Both sites have two (2) BBQs (a propane & a charcoal - bring your own fuel or rent a tank from us). Both sites also have rope lights that can be connected to a generator and will illuminate the center of the group site area. If you want to uses these, please either bring a generator or add a generator rental to your booking.
NOTE: We have reduced the site price as we are no longer including a "reserved" restroom in the site. RV groups usually do not need these and so we have now made this optional. PLEASE CONSIDER RENTING A PORTABLE RESTROOM for your group if you are TENT CAMPING with more than 12 people or would like the convenience of having your own "reserved" restroom.
TRAILERS: Please also note that our roadway is gravel and includes a small hill you must climb. Please do NOT bring a trailer if you are towing with a front-wheel-drive vehicle. Also, if your trailer is pushing the weight limit of your tow vehicle, please have a 4-wheel drive vehicle. (If you have any questions, please message me.)
DEPOSIT REQUIRED. Unfortunately, due to other groups not adhering to our quiet-time policy, we now require a $250 deposit that will NOT be refunded if your group breaks our quiet time rules (quiet time is from 9:30 PM to 8:00 AM.) AND your group will also be asked to leave the premises. If your group is respectful to our other campers and neighbors and does abide by these rules, the deposit will be refunded within the week following your departure. Please add this deposit through the "Extras" option.
*NOTE: Open campfires are strictly prohibited during the summer months. Warming fires may be permitted if in a fully enclose fire pit (with a mesh top) AND is in an area cleared of flammable vegetation and overhanging tree branches AND water is nearby.
CAMPFIRE NOTICE: Beginning Thursday 8/12/21 we will no longer allow wood-burning campfires. (Propane fire pits will still be allowed.) California's unseasonably dry and warm weather has forced us to make this unfortunate decision. The fire danger is simply too great.
Be sure to bring flashlights and lanterns, it can get pretty dark at night!

Group site two
Stayed at Group Site 2 for an extended family camping Thanksgiving! This spot is nestled among the madrone trees with lots of wildlife. Perfect place for any celebration or gathering. The two giant picnic tables were brought together for a large Thanksgiving feast. We were lucky to be able to have a fire as the restriction had been lifted with the rain. I recommend adding on the porto, as it was nice to have that easily available. Gordon was in constant communication, which was super helpful when wrangling a large group. This was my second time staying at Mardrone Tree Hill and first at the Group spot. Will certainly be back again!
4th of july weekend stay
Had a great stay at group site 1. Gordon was very accommodating when we made last minute changes so a friend could join us. Quiet site, clear skies with lots of stars to gaze at. Highly recommended! We will return!
Awesome group site!
We were at site 1, it's really nice and big, has a lot adjacent to it for overflow parking. Nice large tables and string lights available to use (with optional power). The large firepit was not available at the time, but we had a firepit that suited our needs. Overall, really big and open and highly recommend.
Portos were clean and water stations throughout were convenient to have.
Great for groups
This group site has everything you need. There's not much shade bit there is some. Our gang had a great time at Sly park resevoir and Jack Russell brewery. Very private, although at times we could hear highway 50. Gordon is a great host.
What's not to love?
We love this place. We have been back 4 times now. Area is beautiful, Host is great! Plenty to do and explore. We walked to Jack Russell Brewery this time. Very relaxing. Stars are amazing. Host Gordon continues to improve the property, campsites and amenities. Can't wait to go back!
We stayed at the Larger Group Site #1 for My partner's 40th birthday weekend. The campsite was clean and well taken care of by our host, Gordon. We had a wonderful time and recommend the site for larger groups looking for nice space not far from Sacramento region. Gordon was very helpful and responsive during the reservation process.
Great little hideaway!
This was a great little hideaway off the freeway, but still felt like you were in nature.
We were in group site #1 and had our own portapotty set up with nice handwashing station, huge picnic tables for large groups, and a nice atmosphere.
Other campsites within the camp are set in the woods under the trees so ample shade.
The group site is farther away from the smaller sites and can fit many people, but we were a smaller group.
Looking forward to going back again when the grass is a little greener and we can spread out further in the site :)
Definitely would recommend!
