When to Go
The sun shines year-round at Doheny Beach, and it's possible to surf, stroll, and camp through all four seasons. June through August is when the balmy temperatures are ideal for leisurely beach days. Expect crowds during this period, especially on weekends, and plan an early arrival time to snag a parking spot. Day use hours are from 6am till 10pm year-round.
Know Before You Go
- Doheny State Beach is about three miles from the San Juan Capistrano Mission and seven miles northwest of San Clemente.
- Day-use parking fees apply at all California state parks, in addition to campsite booking fees.
- All campsites at Doheny Beach Campground Beach have access to fire rings, picnic tables, and hot showers, but no electric or water hookups. Beach camping is not permitted outside of designated sites.
- Facilities at Doheny Beach include a visitor center, two day-use areas, restrooms, picnic areas with barbecue grills, a snack bar, and rental sites for surfboards, bicycles, and more. Lifeguards patrol the beach year-round.
- Doheny features accessible parking spaces, restrooms, campsites, and picnic sites. The northern picnic area boardwalk is also accessible.
