This is an incredibly historic site in Santa Barbara history. 2 tribes of Chumash Indians lived here for 10,000 years. This is where Spain landed and began colonizing the area. In the 1950's and 60's, this was the site of the World's largest orchid farm. There is a book called The Royal Rancho, if you are a history buff. We are a farm on the beach just North of Santa Barbara and Goleta, Ca. You will camp in a historic, glass greenhouse with incredible ocean views. Inside is a cob pizza oven that works awesome. (Bring your own firewood),,, a place to pitch tents and tiny artistic structures to explore. You will have a private bath and shower (Primitive, no electricity, but the hot shower has the best view in the world of any shower!) Bring your own toiletries and whatnot. Private beach access from our property. We have a barnyard with a multitude of farm animals. Limited electricity in greenhouse (A couple of extension chords). If you are camping during the rain, be advised, it gets wet in the greenhouse. It's an antique after all!

The onsite restroom was functioning and everything was as described. I was great one night stop during the visit in the area. I will definately be back to see Joanie and her horse Porkchop :)

Perfect spot for stargazing! Nate's attention to detail is top notch, so many adorable and thoughtful touches at this site. The solar batteries made it so we were never left without power. Yes it's hot during the day, but soaking in the cowboy tub really helped, and the tent cooled way down at night. The animals are adorable, and Nate made sure to give us eggs for our first morning there. Beds are comfy and cozy, the yurt is more spacious than you'd think, and the donkeys provide plenty of comedic relief. Absolutely wonderful stay!!

Had a nice and modest little set up with string lights that made it easy to get settled after pulling up after dark. Greeted by two friendly dogs (max and goose) who were on guard at our site the rest of the night! Recommend for anyone who likes dogs and who wants a nice easy pull over near Jalama beach.

We had such an amazing stay at Free Dog Farms! The land is absolutely beautiful, secluded, and offers stunning views. We really appreciated the fun welcome tour around the property and the welcome drink upon arrival. Most importantly, our dog—who is usually quite anxious—felt so comfortable and happy here. He loved having the space to run free, which was such a joy to see. Highly recommend!"

Freedog really puts the hip in Hipcamp! We had the best time at our campsite, hiking around the area, and our dog Benny enjoyed the sights and smells and meeting so many other dog lovers. Darin and Sierra take great care of their guests, truly hosts with the most. You’ll feel like you’re hanging with friends you’ve known a long time, not just a few hours. We’re excited to plan our next adventure to FDF!

I booked this blindly, without realizing how rad of a place this really is. Was heading back North really late and wanted a convenient and safe spot to stop off 101 to sleep in the back of my Jeep. I got there around 11:30pm and was greeted by Darin and his great pyrenees, Bandit, before I was led into the barn for a complimentary beer tasting/lesson, a brief history of the ranch itself and a high recommendation that I should camp up on the mountain. Darin topped off my beer and led the way up, off roading in the dark and to my own fire pit beneath a stunningly picturesque milky way starlit sky. In the morning, before departing back onto 101 North, I was encouraged to tale a dip in the freshly filled cowboy pool and a tip off to visit the speakeasy in nearby Solvang. I had no idea this chance booking would result in a permanent stop on my future commutes up and down the California coast. Big thanks to Darin & Sierra for the exceptional hospitality. Excellent place for camping, whether you have a tent or an RV, and very close to the beach. The campground is clean, and the bathrooms are always well maintained. The staff is very helpful and friendly, and the swimming pools are nice and well kept. A few things that could be improved: each camping area should have its own trash can, and it would be helpful to have access to water nearby, at least for washing your hands. Internet reception is also poor. It is a little expensive, but overall, I think it is worth it. I definitely recommend this place, and I’ll be back!
