Swimming in North Fork Tule River, miles of hiking trails on ranch. River Ridge Ranch goes from 1,000' elev. to 3,000' elevation. Hike right on the ranch. We are between Sequoia National Park (about an hour) and the Giant Sequoia National Monument (16 miles to groves up Hwy 190 and no entrance fee).

There are 33 giant sequoia groves in our Southern Region of the Giant Sequoia National Monument, some easily driven to, and some remote. Our ranch is a nature preserve and an education demonstration site, teaching sustainable and regenerative land use practices. River Ridge Institute, our non-profit, hosts a variety of events for the public.
Please note: you are expected to leave the ranch and kitchen area as you found it, i.e., dishes washed thoroughly and dried and put away, recycling separated from trash, food scraps in compost buckets, sticky marshmallow removed from forks and surfaces (ick!). Thank you.
Enjoy: The Kitchen has a 3-burner cooktop, large fridge, microwave, full dishes and utensils and pots and pans with a big washing area in the back. Propane barbecue grill.. Barbara and I bought it to save it from subdivision and it's now protected by a Conservation Easement and acts as a community center for the arts, music, poetry, gatherings and outdoor education. Underworld Farms is a small goat ranch in the Kern River Valley. Surrounded by forestry land, on the Kern River, and on top of what used to be the old town of Whiskey Flat (Later re-named Kernville). There is no end to the beauty, history and adventure all around the property. Life took us to the Kern River Valley after moving out of Los Angeles. We enjoy living in the Southern Sierras immersed in all its natural beauty. The small but magnificent town of Kernville is approximately two and a half miles north of us.
Our livestock includes horses, dairy goats, sheep, and rabbits: Most of which are raised and bred as our son's 4H or FFA projects. You may be wondering why our farm is called "Underworld Farms". In a nutshell, since our ranch is on the footprint of the historic town of Whiskey Flat, we just happen to be south of the old Whiskey Flat "Boot Hill" Cemetery. Our "driveway" is the road that led from the old town of Kernville to the cemetery.
We hope that you consider parking your RV, van conversion, or trailer on one of our customized spots on the property. Or drive your vehicle and pitch a tent on one of our tent friendly sports. Or enjoy a stay in one of our small cabins. Regardless of what you stay in, you will definitely have a memorable time.
The campground is VERY barebones and rural. Critters, bugs, and sometimes fellow Hipcampers can be sparce or prevalent pretty randomly. Because Underworld Farms is a working ranch, you will probably hear livestock noises like horses neighing, sheep and goats calling, and our protector dogs barking from time to time. We encourage you to walk over to the horses and goats and meet them. They especially like when you bring them carrots or apple pieces.
The ranch has a double outhouse with a hand washing station sandwiched in between, it is rustic and bare bones. We check it to see if it has paper products, soap, water, and plenty of room in the trash bins. During the hotter months, the "daddy longleg" spiders enjoy infiltrating the outhouses and seem to spin new webs overnight. But they and their webs are harmless and easy to brush off. We ask for your assistance if there is something missing, or the trash needs taking out, or if the spiders have taken over again by getting ahold of us through the Hipcamp App and letting us know.
With all that being said, there is an ambient beauty here that is unbelievable and memorable. This beauty and draw is so powerful that it causes the many people who come visit to make arrangements to live in our little valley. There is much to do in and around our valley that you couldn't do it all in a lifetime. We hope that you come and stay at the ranch while enjoying our valley. May you have a great time.

Okihi is approximately 15 minutes east of Downtown Bakersfield. 20 minutes away from the 99 hwy or 178 hwy. Whichever way you are traveling, we are a great stopover point.
Sites are spread around on the east side of the property facing the river for beautiful river views while you sip coffee from your site. There are a multitude of recreation opportunities to enjoy.
On site is a work in progress and you will see project sites not fully completed. We have a hammock veranda that is fully shaded and a great place to relax along the river. Miles of biking paths run on the road right by where we are situated and there is a nearby river rafting company if you want the white water experience.
Most of our campers are road tripping, getting away from LA, or are looking for a stopover on their way to/from Yosemite, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, etc. We are in a desert climate – cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Portable heaters or fans with misting options are available for rent.

Enjoy a rustic, no-fuss stay on our 20-acre working farm just 15 miles south of Bakersfield, with easy freeway access. Campsites sit along the pond - perfect for catch-and-release fishing, paddle boarding, or kayaking. We have a small area with farm animals (goats, sheep, peacocks and chickens) for you to enjoy. Expect a desert climate: hot summers, cold winters.
Each site includes a small table, potable water spigot, picnic table, and fire pit (bring your own wood). All sites are BYO tent or car-camping with the exception of our one Glamping Site which includes a queen bed.
Some sites have vehicle height limits (noted in site names), and cannot accommodate pop-ups or truck campers.
Amenities include one shared indoor toilet and an outdoor hot/cold shower. There are 2 kayaks and 2 paddleboards that are free to use amongst all guests. We offer self check-in and you're welcome to arrive anytime after 1PM; checkout is 11AM. Please respect quiet hours after 10PM if arriving late.
CAMP RULES
No Pets – Our dogs roam freely and protect the farm and see other animals as threats. You will be asked to leave with no refund if you bring a pet.
Quiet Hours: 10 PM–7 AM. If we receive complaints about noise, you’ll be asked to leave immediately.
1 Tent + 1 Car are permitted per Site, with the exception of Site 4 which allows 2 tents/2 cars. If you are a large group with multiple tents and families, you will need to book multiple sites. Each site has a maximum capacity, so if you put in 12 people, it will not show you all the sites available - put in 4 people and then you can pick which combination of sites you would like for your group.
No tents or canopies on the grass/lawn area.
No fireworks or open flames outside of designated fire pits. Propane burners or grills are permitted.
Do not feed the farm dogs - no treats or food, ever.
At checkout: dispose of trash in the dumpster by Site 5, soak any hot coals, wipe down tables, and put back the kayaks and paddleboards.

His brother eventually sold his portion leaving my grandpa with a little over 500 acres...We also run retreats off and on year round on the main property and offer a wide variety of things for our clients. Due to COVID, and the strange year had, we thought that this would help us gain a little of our money lost as well as meet some really cool travelers along the way.
We call this God's country because it is a unique and beautiful peace of land, even in the driest of moments. And...there is beautiful manzanita trees all over property.
We personally live 1/2 mile from the main part of the property Jameson Ranch, where the summer camp is held. I love to garden and are in the process of expanding our portion of the property to putting in fruit orchards and berry bushes.
Our whole property also borders the Sequoia National Forest and there are some fun walking trails around there. Its very peaceful here and a reconnect with nature so to speak if that is what you are looking for.
We hope to share this little bit of our heaven with you.

A storybook cabin located in the heart of the Sequoia National Forest. We love all things spooky so we have tried to bring the old magic of the woods into our little cabin. 3 bedrooms and 2 baths tucked into a small community. We are motivated by a love of nature & a respect for it. A wood burning hot tub is tucked in between the pines offers a soak after a day of exploring our beautiful Southern Sierra.
Before forewarned, if it’s in the winter, we get a lot of snow. We highly suggest a an all-wheel-drive vehicle or definitely chains on a 2 wheel dr. vehicle.

Property has been in my family for 60 years. Hope you enjoy the desert getaway!Learn more about this land:5 acres of open desert. Great views of surrounding mountains. Middle of nowhere, a great spot to get away from it all.. star gaze, and just chill out. Boon dock off the grid. NO Facilities but town has everything you could need and just far enough away... If you plan on having a campfire please obtain a burn permit on line. Its free and a great fire safety precaution. Obviously NO FIREWORKS.

We had a beautiful stay at Spirit Walk. John welcomed us warmly and took the time to introduce us to the land, which immediately made us feel at home. Everything is thoughtfully maintained while still offering a sense of privacy, peace, and safety.
We found so many little points of connection during our stay, and quickly understood why this place feels so special. There really is something about the trees, the water, the quiet, and the care here. We left feeling more connected to ourselves, each other, and the land.

Weekend Trip to SoCal Camping
I absolutely loved Rachel’s Land! The views were amazing, especially being able to shower with hot water under the stars it made the experience feel so peaceful and unique. You do have to park across the street, but you’re allowed to drive onto the property briefly to unload your belongings. They also provide wagons, which made bringing everything into the cabin really easy and convenient.
They always had coffee and hot chocolate available, which was such a nice touch in the mornings and evenings. The inside of the cabin was incredibly cozy, and comfortable. Overall, it was such a relaxing experience, and I would definitely camp here again!

My family and I loved the A-frame cabin and surrounding property. The view over the lake is incredible and there is wide open, dark skies at night. The Milkway was clearly visible and we got to see the moonrise over the lake every night - very magical! Robyn is a fantastic host with great comms - I would definitely recommend the spot.

I can’t say enough how much we enjoy staying in the Studio cabin. This is a good place for stargazing in the fresh mountain air.

It was fun especially if you want to just get out for the day. Dogs were probably the best part, they will get you dirty by rubbing against you but I didn’t mind. Tent was very clean as well as the restrooms.

Plenty of room to explore. Take some time to relax on one of the swinging benches, or climb atop the pontoon and star gaze at night. Also, seening a moonrise over the hills was incredible. And this is just on the property! Take your time and explore the land beyond the gates. We'll definitely be coming back. FYI, bring plenty of shade during the summer.

John is the type of host that makes Hipcamp special. He is welcoming, thorough, and has clearly put much thought and detail into his camp. Site 1 was fairly level and spacious. It was also near a very clean and unique complex of bathrooms, sinks, and showers. The road up was rough but easily doable without 4WD if you're careful. My family had a great stay and would certainly camp here again next time we're in Tehachapi!

We had such an amazing stay at Wandering Star Ranch! From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The campsite was peaceful, secluded, and the perfect place to celebrate with friends while enjoying nature. The host was incredibly kind, responsive, and made us feel so welcome throughout our stay.
I also wanted to mention that I saw a previous review about difficulty finding level camping spots, but it's clear they've put in the work to improve that. We had no issues finding a great, level area to set up, and you can tell the owners genuinely listen to guest feedback and continue making improvements.
If you're looking for a remote getaway with beautiful scenery, privacy, and hosts who truly care about their guests' experience, I can't recommend this place enough. We had an unforgettable weekend and will absolutely be coming back. Thank you again, Mark! 🌲✨

Four overlanders decided to try something new and Airbnb a private piece of land for a camping trip. It was our first time doing something like this, and definitely won't be our last!
We had the pleasure of meeting the host and his family, and they were incredibly welcoming and friendly. The host was very responsive through the app and extremely helpful throughout our entire stay.
