Nestled in a diverse landscape, we focus on healing the land through hands-on conservation while offering a space to connect with nature, camp, and learn. This isn’t your average campground, make sure to look over the rules, check in and locked gate times. They will be enforced. Restore and Explore We’re committed to revitalizing native habitats—our land is a living example of ecological renewal. Wander scenic trails, enjoy wildlife, and witness the power of restoration in action. Sustainable Farming and Livestock Our animals play a key role in regeneration. Horses, sheep, goats, turkeys, and chickens help manage invasive weeds and maintain healthy ecosystems. We compost all their manure, turning waste into valuable resources for soil health. Camping and Community Camp under the stars, explore nature, and join us for seasonal events and workshops focused on sustainability, conservation, and community. Whether you're here to camp, hike, or volunteer, Okihi is a place where nature and people come together for a common cause. Okihi is more than a destination—it's a living example of land restoration, sustainable living, and the power of community. Come explore, learn, and make a difference! Okihi is approximately 15 minutes east of Downtown Bakersfield. 20 minutes away from the 99 hwy or 178 hwy. Whichever way you are traveling, we are a great stopover point. Sites are spread around on the east side of the property facing the river for beautiful river views while you sip coffee from your site. There are a multitude of recreation opportunities to enjoy. On site is a work in progress and you will see project sites not fully completed. We have a hammock veranda that is fully shaded and a great place to relax along the river. Miles of biking paths run on the road right by where we are situated and there is a nearby river rafting company if you want the white water experience. Most of our campers are road tripping, getting away from LA, or are looking for a stopover on their way to/from Yosemite, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, etc. We are in a desert climate – cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Portable heaters or fans with misting options are available for rent.

We had an amazing time camping here. The property was quiet, lots of land to roam around, and the river was close by! Katherine was very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Everything was just as expected, and we felt comfortable the whole time. We’d absolutely come back!

We liked the hosts, the animals. I just thought it not quite right in making the property seem like it has water access to the Kern River on the website. We thought we could sit around and dip our feet in the cool river water during the day while it’s hot, but the tiny access route was overgrown and we got our ankles stabbed with tiny prickly weeds. I think they tried to make a sitting area by the water but the chairs were tilted so much we didn’t feel comfortable sitting in them. They can upgrade that and it’ll be perfect!

The stay was so lovely! We rented 3 sites for a group of 10 and it was more than enough space. The bathroom was clean and wandering around the property was so much fun. Had a dip in the river, hung out by the hammocks and went on the small trail. We also spend half of a say river rafting nearby. Overall such a lovely time with friends thanks to Katherine! One for the books.

An amazing experience, genuinely a 10/10. You’re never going to find a better camping spot for the price with more amenities than anyone could ask for. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the lazy river, fossil hunting (found a killer shark tooth that was millions of years old), pet the animals (sheep, horses, dogs, cats, chickens, and everything in between), walked the trails, read in the hammocks, and the list goes on. Would 100% recommend! Katherine, is a kind soul and will take care of you without a doubt. So glad we went and will be coming back in the future for sure!

The host was friendly and there's a handful of animals as you come in. Didn't have a chance to wander on this trip. The immediate scenery was nice. Level tent spots arranged around a communal fire pit.

Katherine and Stephen have done an incredible job transforming this location into a peaceful getaway filled with places to explore and animals to meet. It's a community space where you'll see volunteers coming and going helping to complete projects and aiding in re-wilding the area. I look forward to returning and bringing more friends along.

Quiet spot near the river, with everything you need to be comfortable - a flat tent site, a clean bathroom, a little shade, a place to put your feet in the river. Birds, animals, and a respect for the land. I would stay there again.

My Wife and I had an awesome time during our 1 night stay at Okihi. We pitched our own tent and enjoyed the environment as a whole. We will definitely be back! I think our favorite part was that we truly achieved the camping experience and then arrived back home within 30 minutes!

Okihi is such a magical place! The trailers were comfortable and perfect for a group of friends for an easy weekend get-away. We had a blast exploring the property, building a campfire, hanging with all the animals, and floating on the beautiful Kern River. Katherine and Steven are top notch hosts and stewards of this very special place! Be sure to ask Katherine for some Okihi eggs!

I loved the property, the animals, the focus of creating sustainable land, and the hosts!! We attended a sound bath event that made everything magical. The RV we stayed in was well taken care of and had everything we needed, including AC! Can't wait to come back to explore the river and trails!

Spots perfect! If you have kids, this place is a hit too! They have sheep goats n horses that you can pet and even feed if you check with the host first…. Right next to the river so perfect for the hot weather. Our spot had a pair of owls living in the tree that was on our site. Super cool for my girls to experience nature and not far from the city in case you gotta make a quick run to the store. Looking forward to our next trip here! Katherine is super nice and honestly makes you feel welcomed so great vibes overall.

Quiet getaway on the Kern River

We were looking for a camping type experience, but didn't want to lug all the gear with us. So we stayed in one of the rvs. It was fantastic! They have done a great job with restoring some of the native plant life. The farm animals were really fun, and there were lots of wild animals as well. We saw lots of squirrels and rabbits. And heard lots of different birds, including a great horned owl! We chose to stay here because we were also going to Sharktooth Hill aka Ernst Quarry. Al in all a great stay!

Nestled by the beautiful Kern River only minutes from the City of Bakersfield lies the hidden gem that is Okihi. We recently enjoyed two relaxing days and nights at this tranquil and serene place. The accommodations were excellent and Katherine was an amazing host. We had fun exploring the grounds, hanging out by the river and getting to know the animals. Who knew such a cool place was right here in our backyard! We’ll definitely be returning to recharge ourselves soon. We highly recommend Okihi to anyone wanting to do the same.

Host was kind! I actually forgot to get gas and she graciously gave me some gas so I had enough to get to station. Rv was clean and well stocked with everything you could need Heater works well, most important thing lol. . Gas fireplace was nice at night. Right on the river and perfect for a fun little adventure.

The host was very nice and so was the caretaker. The animals are so friendly and beautiful. The bathroom was super clean but the grounds could have been cleaner. There was trash on the ground when walking around. Not a big deal. The first night there was a soccer game across the river that kept us up. It’s also closer to a road than expected and you can hear cars. Just be aware if you want to get to sleep early if there is a soccer game it was loud.
