Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

If you've ever wondered what it might be like to camp on the moon, this is it. Completely removed from civilization and surrounded by a barren nature that is alive with the subtle presence of the universe. Seasonally, Spring wildflowers burst across the landscape. Cave paintings of Chumash Indians at Painted Rock remind us of those who lived before us. **Read on for more details.** This is our home but we love to share our life in the outback. We believe it will give you a better appreciation of life's simpler side. That being said, and to maintain the balance here at home, we'd appreciate if you keep your dogs in your car until you get to your site. Our offerings include fresh air and sunshine, amazing night sky, endless views, and plenty of space and privacy to enjoy your moments in nature. You'll find our amenities and activities puposefully sparse here. Upon booking, there are about 5 miles of dirt road on the property that you are welcome to explore on foot or by bicycle. Rustic is the theme here. There is no shower, no wifi, and no electricity available, but you will enjoy your own private spigot and the cellular service is acceptable. For any sites located south of Ballinger Wash, your vehicle length is limited to 22' and no more than 4' overhang from the rear axle, so you don't get stuck in the crossing and block access for others. Towing services are 1-3 hours away. Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets and amazing stargazing. These UPPER SITES are NOT OHV friendly, but any of our canyon bottom sites are a great base for your riding adventures up in Ballinger Canyon OHV. We'll be happy to recommend a site for you. **Forest Service law enforcement is actively ticketing unplated OHV on Ballinger Canyon Road. Be sure to know and abide by the laws.** Our friendly cancellation policies vary between 24 hours for simple campsites and 72 hours for our Glamp sites and Group sites. Be sure to check the Google for distance to Cuyama Valley, and your dates for availability and site descriptions. On many days you can experience Ojai’s famous pink moments. You can hike the trails above Ojai, boat, eat, or picnic at Lake Casitas. Travel to nearby Ventura to shop, fish the pier, or take a deep sea fishing charter or Island charter to Whale watch or fish around the Channel Islands. Please note the aerial view of the camping area recently placed by Hipcamp is NOT AT ALL REPRESENTATIVE of the current camping sites and shows a photo that is many years old when the site was merely land. That photo is without any of the existing amenities or improvements. The actual sites are all Larger than Federal Park and Statepark guidelines, with averages of 20'x30' for campsites and 20'x40' for a long RVCampsite. We have planted many young trees and continue to plant trees and native shrubs around and near the sites. We have picnic tables, table coverings, fire pits, and camping rugs/footprints. There is also an outdoor shower, a shower tent with hot water, and an upgraded porta-potty with a sink. Note: During times when high heat is predicted, we strongly recommend that our Hipcampers bring pop-up shade tents or canopies for their sites. The Hipcamp is adjacent to our working ranch, and any photos of old sheds, trucks, a wood lot, or other equipment are NOT on the Hipcamp, but you will drive past that property to get to the separate Hipcamp area. Wineries, Farmer's Markets, Craft Breweries, dispensaries, and more are within 10 to 15 minutes of our site. Our location allows moments when you may see Hawks, Owls, Geese, Swallows, Robins, Bluebirds, and more. We offer both tent and RV camping. The Majority of our Guests love it here: "Vivian and Dave were exceptional hosts! Easy to contact and find our way to their property. Also gave us a plethora of places to go and things to do in the Ojai area. The area was open and spacious, and many trees and upgrades were in the works to make future stays more user-friendly. The campsite was stunning. Gorgeous views of the river / waterfall. Beautiful place to see the sunset. Camp was super well maintained. Bathrooms / showers were really clean and functional. Liza and Tom were super attentive, accommodating and responsive hosts. We stayed for 3 nights and would have stayed longer if we could. We stayed at the Yosemite Falls site with our 21.1’ campervan and it worked perfectly. Super close to Yosemite as well!!

Great camping spot on our way to Yosemite! Our van 🚐 fit perfectly on site #4 with no leveling needed. The views in the morning were extraordinary 🤩⛰️⛰️☕️ Liza was very responsive and accommodating 😁🙏. They even had bath towels in the shower 🚿 room Would definitely stay here again! Also interesting in their summer rafting tours as this is a staying area for rating 🌊 tours 🤩🤙🏾🤙🏾

Unfortunately, we had to cut our visit short but the night we spent there was great! our site was literally on the edge of the bluff overlooking Timber Cove. Level site, clean bathrooms and amazing views. The Timber Cove resort up the street is an amazing spot for a beer. Thanks to Brenda for a great stay!

Gorgeous spot for our truck camping adventure! We enjoyed the incredible view, quaint quiet beach (fishermen never woke us up and were sweet to our curious 9 year old son), crashing waves, and majestic hiking trails! Campfires and s'mores at night and breakfast watching seals poking up from the surf! What a coastal gem! Special thanks to Brenda for providing us with this memorable experience.

Great spot! Sunset and sunrise over the hills was stunning. The bathroom felt luxurious for camping and I liked the shower. The communal area could use some work. The cornhole boards were a bit warped and most of the bags were unusable. The sink outside didn't work as well. Overall the location was great and nearby a place to buy wood/get food. Did the job.

Weekend Trip to Freedog Farms @ Cactus Flower Ranch

Amazing experience from start to finish! Greeted with a welcome drink and ride around the camp to pick our site. We were lucky enough to get Packs Peak with a 360 view of the rolling hills. The hosts and farm hands were so helpful with teaching us how to use everything and really made the experience so special! The property is easy to access and close by to Solvang which was a fun outing for us. We finished our trip with buying some farm fresh chicken and duck eggs! An unforgettable experience for sure!

We loved this camp ground. Camp sites we clean and well maintained. Spaced far enough to get some privacy. Short walk to the river. Showers and bathrooms were clean and well stocked. And the provided propane fire pit was a nice touch as well.

We car camped at site 3 of Oak Grove. The parking space was secluded by bushes, and we didnt need to use the rest of the site, so it was really nice. We could see the city lights from the site, which were very beautiful at night 😁. The bathrooms were clean and private. The roads were windy coming up to the property, but manageable with care. It was fun seeing the friendly and pettable goat herd roam the place and hearing them talk to each other. They visited our site one morning too 🐐! The view from the observation deck on the property was beautiful, and we could see the ocean from there! We explored the property, popped in the river at the nearby nature preserve, and toured the town (with froyo🍨) as fun activies. It can also be a totally no-contact stay as there are signs for guidance. Great stay, and we plan to come again!

Camping here was incredibly pleasant and seamless. There are clean bathrooms, potable water spigots, fire pits, and also a little onsite lake which is perfect when the weather is hot and dry. I did see a lot of fire ant burrows all over the property, but that's to be expected outdoors in the desert. Overall 10/10 would recommend. It's very close to Joshua Tree as well as 29 Palms so there's a lot to do around.

The tabernacle was really nice and secluded like mentioned in the description but for my wife, toddler and I, it was a little too secluded for us. Great for a group or a couple that are looking for a really quiet camp site. We got a lay of the land and already booked another trip in the community campgrounds.
