Arber-Moore&#x27;s Ranch

Nice and cozy! Stayed here for just a night, the campsites are well-spaced with good commodities. Everyone involved is super kind and working hard to develop the campsite space— so my girlfriend and I felt very welcomed. The stars are spectacular, too!

Pros: David (host) was fantastic. Easy to find and near Ojai. Very clean, with clean port-a-potty, shower and trash cans. Cons: Lots of sun exposure. Too hot to hangout, roasting in the sun. Will be amazing in 20 years for the trees to grow large.

Hard to navigate, lots of ants

Dave was an excellent host and helped us navigate the ranch in the dark! Unfortunately, it was… really hard to navigate in the dark. We arrived around 9:30 and checked to see how to get to the site, but we weren't given instructions. We received a PDF booklet with many helpful suggestions for the area, but there wasn’t a map of the place, so we had to call a couple of times to figure out where to go. He eventually came out and led us to the shower stall, which was kind of him. The shower had excellent water pressure but was either freezing or scalding. None of us (Dave, my friend, and I) could figure out how to get it not to be scalding - I kind of treated it like an Etch-a-Sketch and kept fiddling with the knob, turning off the heat when it was too hot, waiting for it to be frigid again, then starting the heater. The campsite itself had electricity and water hookups, which was great, though the water was off and Dave had to turn it back on. The fire pit was really lovely! Unfortunately, the campsite itself I think was on a giant anthill. There were ants on literally everything when we woke up: covering the tent, inside the tent, inside my sleeping bag… everywhere. There was also a ton of construction going on which we didn’t know, so most of the place was half-torn up. Finally, and this isn’t their fault, we were very loudly awoken by a bunch of helicopters flying overhead. Not my most peaceful sleep. Overall, a cute place, but I don’t think I’d recommend it.

Great campsite on a working farm. Outdoor shower with plenty of hot water, large plots to pitch several tents. We were moto-camping with three people and this was exactly what we needed! Definitely recommended!

Gorgeous, quiet get away!

My daughter and I loved camping on Vivian Lee's land. It was a quiet, clean spot. We took one of the RV spots near the oak tree which had nice shade and its own port-o-potty. There was a nice shared outdoor shower and lots of wild birds like quail around. Definitely would recommend to friends.

We had the whole place to our self. And the bathrooms where spotless, which was fantastic. But it felt like we were camping in someone's back yard. You have to drive past the house, horses, chickens and sheep, and then drive around to the back. At first we thought we had arrived at the wrong place. The dirt road curves around in a figure "U". But the last entry point is closed. I would suggest having your guests enter the second entry point to avoid passing the house. But we appreciate the clean bathrooms. Thanks!

This is a great campground. We were extremely happy with our stay and loved all the beautiful trees around the property plus amenities. The shower has been upgraded since there was a tent shower shown in some of the pictures. The location and proximity to both ojai and Ventura Beach are excellent! Would highly recommend.

This campsite is 10 feet from 2 other sites. It has no view other than a bunch of containers on the property. If you are ok sleeping 50 feet from sheep and chickens then I guess you would like this. You also can’t drive more then 3 mph or they will tell you that you are going to kill their animals that get free on to the camp sites.

I did tent camping here with a friend and my dog and it was a great experience! The ground is super hard so if you have a trick for camp stakes I recommend you bring it. It wasn't windy for me so I just used some rocks to weight it down 😅 The camp shower was magical, especially in the morning when the sun hits the towels 😍 It was more refreshing then cozy then anything I experience at home. The host was very patient and friendly with me when we booked incorrectly! I was made to feel more like a guest rather than an income provider.

Camping in a chill spot

Perfect site! Flat with everything you need to relax for a couple of days. The site is away from other sites. So, very quiet. The dogs & I enjoyed walking down to the riverbed and back. Talked to the sheep a bit too!

Nice flat spot. Pretty quiet. The river was dry when we were there. Hiking trails were overgrown so we couldn’t really walk around much. The goats and sheep on property were sweet. Saw some coyotes. All in all it was a nice stay.

The site was as described and we had fun. Pros were the privacy of just a few campsites within a private ranch, and the location near Ojai and Ventura with lots of bike paths and hiking trails. Also the outdoor shower was cool. Cons were the limited toilet facilities and lack of shade.

Lovely quiet property - the oak tree site was wonderful! It was a little hard to find as we arrived at night, but it was so nice waking up to a peaceful morning under the oak! Having a picnic table, fire pit, and trash/recycling cans at each site was great!

We had some difficulty with directions, but that was quickly cleared up with a phone call to Vivian. She's working with Hipcamp on improving that information and also tries to send a PDF via email, but unfortunately we didn't receive it. If the directions aren't clear you don't get the email, I'd recommend reaching out. We enjoyed seeing all the animals as part of this working ranch and also enjoyed the bunnies, birds and a deer that strolled/hopped nearby our site. Lovely views and a great location between Ventura and Ojai. We had an early morning race in Ventura and it was the perfect spot, the rooster even made sure we were on time!

Sight was huge and the ranch is beautiful with lots of fun animals! Plenty of room for us and our gear. Instructions/directions were on point and led us right where we needed as we showed up to camp well after dark. Vivian is a great communicator and made us feel very welcome!

Very Confusing Directions

Overall, it was good. The views were beautiful. But the instructions that were given were very confusing and misleading. I informed the host that we would be arriving late at night (11:00pm). Asking if we needed a code or specific directions to get to the site. She did send me a detailed instructions to get to the site but the details that she used werent relevant to the site. Example: "Once you turn onto the drive, that bronze address sign will be to your right as you pass the entrance. When you are on the drive past the entrance, you will also see the paint horse on your left in the front, two corrals, and oak tree down the road". These directions were not clear enough. We did not see the oak tree (it was midnight, and no lights on the campground), and the painted horse she was referring to was a real horse. Which we didn't see till the last day. These instructions were extremely frustrating to follow. I was only able to find out way because I looked it up on google maps where it provided photos. She needs more signage and lights around the campground to avoid issues like this.

Loved the amazingly unique camping!

Loved the unique camping! Site 3 was extremely roomy and even with a couple of the other sites nearby taken, it never felt close to being crowded at all. Hearing the animals was amazing and their firewood was priced the same as at the nearby stores but it was much better quality and longer lasting wood. Highly recommend using them instead. Vivian and the staff were extremely kind and we will definitely be back. We used the site so we could fish nearby Lake Casitas which is around 3 miles away, but didn’t seem that far at all. Thank you again Vivian and family, we’ll be back soon!
