A Unique Mountain Retreat

This cabin was exactly what we were looking for and truly was perfect for our weekend. The views were lovely, the atmosphere peaceful, and the cabin comfortable. John was a great host and made sure we were at ease. Highly recommend

Surpassed expectations

First, as everyone else says on here, John is a fantastic host, we really appreciated his hospitality. He has put a lot of effort in making his place meet all the campers needs. Here’s need to know. We booked site 8 but moved to site 6 because our truck was too tall for the trees. Site 8 is great for smaller cars and tents as it’s close to the bathroom and entrance. I’d say if you’re camping with a large vehicle and or large tent, try to get sites 1, 2, or 6. 1 is close to the outhouse, sink and showers. John has made a nice outhouse area, and even though they’re outhouses, they don’t smell because he has motion sensor light and ventilation fans inside. Showers do cost extra but are definitely worth it, and they’re nice and hot! He also keeps a freezer down there with extra bags of ice. There is quite a bit of wind, so anchor your things. It was in the 80s when we were there but it was quite cool in the shade with the wind and nice breeze. But if you have any respiratory issues, the wind and dryness may be an issue. I would not recommend this for large RV/motorhomes but medium to small camping works great! Lastly, no cell service at the camps but if you walk up the hill a bit, you get service and great views! We will be back!

I stayed at the cabin on John's property. The land is gorgeous with great views. The cabin is amazing. It's really well-built, clean, organized. John really cares about his place. The bed is a pull out bed, pretty comfortable but definitely bring another pad if you like a more cushioned surface. There is a heater that does a great job keeping the place warm. A fair sized fridge with freezer, as well as a larger freezer in the camp kitchen area. The BBQ was super clean and works well. Ditto with the restroom. I didn't try the showers but they looked awesome. There is plenty of seating inside and out. The views are gorgeous. You'll see the sunset, stars, and sunrise from your bed. The description on here is exactly how it is. Just beware of GPS sending you the wrong way!!

Perfect Hipcamp Experience

I loved my quick overnight on John's land. He's built an incredibly peaceful Hipcamp, and his attention to the camper experience is among the best I've ever seen—a dedicated dish-washing station, clean and regularly serviced toilets (with running fans and lights!), plus access to unlimited hot showers and safe propane fire pits for a small additional fee. Hosts like John are what make Hipcamp so special. I can't wait to return next time I'm making my way over Tehachapi Pass.

This was one of the nicest sites that we have discovered on Hip-Camp. The owner is very welcoming and informative. The shower and bathrooms were clean and the site sitting on top of a mountain was wonderful.

This was a fantastic out of the way place to stay. John was a great host who showed us around and even offered us another site when our van wouldn’t fit under the trees at our selected site. We loved the walking trail, too.

Beautiful, remote oasis. John was welcoming and helpful. We admired his craftsmanship. We parked in #1, next to the bathroom/shower/kitchen area, which was perfect. Enjoyed the outdoor shower and walking trail. Road up was a bit rough, but our Sprinter made it!

Very nice hospitable Hipcamp about 15-20 minutes from Tehachapi. John, the host met us when we arrived and showed us around. The camp is well equipped with clean bathrooms, outdoor showers, kitchen cleanup area and BBQ. Very much surrounded by nature. No cell coverage at the site but if you go up the hill you do get a couple of bars with an amazing view of the Tehachapi valley. Recommend !

Another lovely stay at John's Unique Mountain Off Grid Retreat! This place continues to be one of my favorite escapes for peace, quiet, and a true reset in nature. The setting is beautiful, secluded, serene, and surrounded by natural beauty that makes it easy to unwind right away. The hot shower is amazing! John is an excellent host: welcoming, responsive, and thoughtful. I look forward to staying again.

I stayed at the cabin. Sadly, it was very windy until the morning I left and I couldn't stay long. But the cabin was comfortable and well equipped, and the view was just like the pictures. John was helpful and interesting, and he's done amazing things with his property. I would love to stay there again when I have more time. Oh - and my dog really liked it too.

John has such a cool spot! He gave us a tour right as we arrived. He’s a very kind man and built everything himself. My family of four loved the cabin and loved walking around on the trail. The bed and cot were great for us, and we cooked on the grill. It was a very peaceful stay!

John is a great host, and his property is beautiful and very private. In spite of some bad weather and high winds during my stay, my partner and I had still had a good time and would definitely recommend camping at John’s property.

Vibes

Our stay at this cabin was truly a great experience from start to finish. John was very attentive and made the entire stay smooth and enjoyable. The cabin itself was incredibly cozy and warm, with a unique charm that made it feel special. The views were absolutely amazing and added so much to the overall atmosphere despite the weather we had. We did experience some strong winds during our visit, but even with that, we still fully enjoyed our time there. It didn’t take away from the experience at all. Overall, it’s the perfect spot to get away from the city while still being close enough to grab anything you might need. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful and memorable stay.
