This 60 acre property is located approximately 3 miles east of San Gregorio Beach in the San Gregorio area. There is no home here, only a travel trailer on the Upper Meadow. It is very peaceful, quiet and beautiful throughout the seasons.
We are 5 minutes away from the San Gregorio General Store and cafe and 20 minutes from Alice's Restaurant. We have great cell coverage for Verizon, AT&T and Visible. Experience shows that T-Mobile does not work here and I don't know about the other internet providers.
There are four campsites, each with easy 4WD access. Two of the sites offer total isolation with amazing views while the third site, while in a nice setting, is more useful for a quick overnight stay with no views of the ocean or canyon. Please note that five easy-going cows (no bulls) reside on this property.
Dear winter and spring campers, please consider using "Sensible Weather" for your trip protection in the event of heavy rain or even high temperatures in the summer and fall. I have not used this insurance feature but the description makes it look worth considering, available when reserving on Hipcamp.

You'll find our amenities and activities puposefully sparse here. Upon booking, there are about 5 miles of dirt road on the property that you are welcome to explore on foot or by bicycle.
Rustic is the theme here. There is no shower, no wifi, and no electricity available, but you will enjoy your own private spigot and the cellular service is acceptable.
For any sites located south of Ballinger Wash, your vehicle length is limited to 22' and no more than 4' overhang from the rear axle, so you don't get stuck in the crossing and block access for others. Towing services are 1-3 hours away.
Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets and amazing stargazing. These UPPER SITES are NOT OHV friendly, but any of our canyon bottom sites are a great base for your riding adventures up in Ballinger Canyon OHV. We'll be happy to recommend a site for you. **Forest Service law enforcement is actively ticketing unplated OHV on Ballinger Canyon Road. Be sure to know and abide by the laws.**
Our friendly cancellation policies vary between 24 hours for simple campsites and 72 hours for our Glamp sites and Group sites. Be sure to check the Google for distance to Cuyama Valley, and your dates for availability and site descriptions. We have 2 full outdoor bathrooms, one was most recently added at our Elderberry Camp Site (site 1), and is also close to site 4 our Oaks Campsite as well. (Please note our 2nd bathroom is a good walk uphill from the campsites). Our larger bathroom campers can use with a shower and small fridge to store your food.
We also have a playground with swing set for kids to enjoy.
PLEASE NOTE: Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
FIRES: No fires are to be lit by the campers without verbal consent from property owner and instruction. SEE property owner/camp host upon arrival about what you may use on the property. He will provide instructions.
TASTINGS: We offer tastings of our products with advanced notice and we will accommodate based on host availability. The earlier you request the tasting the better, but please no later than 48 to hours before the start of the booking. Thank you!
Macala Orchards Olive Oil, Various Jellies and Jams Pomegranate Juice all made from what we grow are available for tasting upon request. Please let us know prior to arrival if you are interested in a scheduled tasting during your stay! We can provide a tasting if we have the proper staff during your visit. GETTING TO VILLA MACALA: The road up to Villa Macala is a dirt road uphill, all vehicles fair well, we attempt to keep the road maintained as well as possible, after heavy rains it is a bit more bumpy but safe. Drive slow!

*WARNING - there is poison oak on the property. Its actually in all the state parks as well - it lovers this climate, so familiarize yourself with its appearance. We do our best to mitigate the camp sites and keep them clear, but it is around. While some people do not react to it, others definitely do and it is no fun. There is an identification poster at the bathrooms. If you come in contact use soap and cold water to wash right away.
Now about this beautiful place -
This property has been in the family since 1922. During a time of no roads just the railroad that passed through, and a river ferry.
At the entrance of the property was the town of Skelly, with a post office, train stop, animal corrals and railroad logging spurs. The lands primary use was ranching and timber back then. The flat that the camp ground is located on is the site of the old Larrabee school house (Georgeson School) which was built after the 1955 flood took out the original school house, located across from the train trussell next to Larabee Creek.
The railroad was closed indefinitely in 1996, which changed the entire landscape for this small community. This area is accessible by a low water bridge in the summer months and offers a spot to slip back in time.
Today the land is a great example of sustainably harvest redwoods, a project that was established by great grandpa and is still in practice today. The timber surrounds the pastures and farm land that now produces hay.
We acquired this land 5 years ago and have spent countless hours restoring the fields, managing the forest and creating a working sustainable environment.
It is a very special place and offers peace and quite to those who enjoy the out doors and camping.

Born in Berlin, Germany, he has spent much of his life performing, guiding, studying, while travelling and becoming an accomplished artist in wood, stone and iron. The communal fire pit sits in the middle of Candy Cap Meadow, ringed with stumps and open to the night sky, and it's where everybody ends up after dark to share a drink and swap stories. The dining area is nearby, tarped and filled with picnic tables and a long work space.
THE SAUNA
A wood-fired sauna built of reclaimed redwood, smelling sweet like bourbon. Come in cold off the headlands, stoke up the stove, and let the heat work into your bones while the fog moves through the pines outside. There's a hot shower and a composting toilet in the same bathhouse.
THE COAST
The water is about a five minute walk. From there the old Haul Road runs flat and paved along the bluffs for miles in both directions, so you can go as far as you feel like: tide pools and harbor seals at Laguna Point about fifteen minutes up, Glass Beach a couple miles south.
OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES AND EDUCATION
Local folks who know this coast teach here through the season. Tide pooling, coastal foraging, rolling your own sushi out on the rocks with what you just picked up, mushroom forays, and more. Nobody expects you to show up knowing anything, and classes book separately from your site.
Winter is just as good as summer, maybe even better! The rains bring the mushrooms up, the candy caps really do smell like maple syrup, and the lowest tides of the year come in winter and spring. The winter weather here is mild too, so it might just be warmer than you expect!
GOOD TO KNOW
-Rigs up to 25 feet, so vans and small campers fit. No trailers and no big rigs, so it stays quiet, and no generators, TVs or stereos.
-No hookups, water or electric.
-Bring your own drinking water, a gallon per person per day. Water onsite is non-drinkable.
-No pets, service animals excepted.
-Campfires happen in the communal pit. We ask that you pay $8 a night for firewood, and we'll keep you supplied with all you need.
-This is an inclusive property. We welcome people of every race, gender, age, background, and belief.

While 8 miles from Carmel valley village and 20 from Carmel by the Sea, our weather is consistently warm and sunny as we are tucked in the hills and in the Valley, surrounded by trees in Los Padres National Forest. Within a mile from the property you will have access to single track trails that connect via foot with Big Sur and the Ventana wilderness area in the Santa Lucia Mountains. On the property itself, you will have access to an electrical outlet and water hookup. 36 feet long by 18 feet wide lot... that means 36 feet long including trailer and towing vehicle. *Gate entry to site is 140 inches wide

The title says it all this property is truly A Unique Mountain Retreat that will give you the peace, quiet and tranquility you are looking for.
An energy efficient Uniquely designed home that is off the grid and has a very green footprint with solar and windmill to charge batteries. Oak and pine tree covered acres with fitness and nature trails around the property. Each level campsite with picnic table is designed for privacy with plenty of distance between sites and mountain views in every direction, along with an optional gas log fire pit and BBQ.
There is plenty of clean, non potable drinking water, custom built toilets and optional hot showers, limited electrical use, cell phone charging and low power use devices as I am off grid. There is a fitness and nature trail on the property and Pacific Crest trail is approx 20 to 30 min drive, Mountain park which has many miles of hiking trails and an Indian reservation with hikes to many petroglphs. Things to see are the World famous Tehachapi railway loop, historic downtown, vineyards, mountain spirit center a Buddhist temple, glider rides, bicycle riding and fishing.
There is cell service around the property but intermittent at the campsites.

Such a great place to camp with families with young kids! I didn't get the chance to meet Cliff but my friends said he was very welcoming. He's extremely communicative and was very flexible despite multiple arrival time changes. Sinks at every campsite, propane campfire and clean toilets and showers. Highly recommend :) thanks Cliff!

I absolutely loved my stay at Avocado Vista Campsite! From the moment I arrived, Shane was incredibly welcoming, communicative, and helpful in getting me settled into the site.
I really enjoyed the short off-road drive up the mountain—it added to the adventure. The campground has an amazing view, and there’s a short trail from the campsite that leads to an incredible, unobstructed panoramic view of the city.
The site feels secluded and peaceful while still feeling safe, even with my dog. The flushing toilet and cabana were a delight to have. The highlight of the trip was waking up early enough to catch the absolutely stunning sunrise.
I had a fantastic experience and definitely look forward to visiting again Highly recommended!!

Beautiful property! The directions were spot-on, and the photos were very helpful. I had no trouble finding the ranch. The road up is steep, but if you’re comfortable driving on mountain roads, it’s easy to navigate. The gate is a little tricky—and heavy—but I didn’t have any real trouble with it.
The Puri site was lovely, shaded by large trees and spacious enough for both my large tent and a separate changing tent. There’s also a water spigot at the site, which was a very nice surprise!
Privacy may be limited if other campers are present. The neighboring site is close enough that you can hear the other campers, although both nights were quiet after 9 p.m. Puri is also directly alongside the road, but the only passing vehicles belong to campers staying at the upper site, so traffic was minimal. Just be careful if you have pets off leash.
One final tip: don’t drive your tent stakes too deeply! I had the unfortunate luck of hitting an underground ant colony—or one of their tunnels—and ended up with biting ants everywhere. Definitely not the camping adventure I had planned! The ants were in no way a reflection of the owners or the property, and the owners were incredibly understanding. In fact, they were so kind and accommodating that I’ve already booked another stay. Aside from that memorable mishap, the site itself was beautiful and very comfortable.

It was an amazing experience. The views were just as great as the host. Loved Mystry, Juno, Henry and Luna... they gave us an incredible amount of entertainment with their company. The views, cabin, grill, washroom, kayaks- all of them absolutely above expectations!

Sierra Circle Installation Campground is such a beautiful and special place! From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed. The people are incredibly kind, friendly, and inviting, and there’s a wonderful sense of community here.
There is so much to enjoy beyond simply relaxing in the beautiful surroundings. You can go wine tasting, enjoy concerts and live music, explore the art gallery, get creative in the pottery crafting area, or join a yoga practice right at the campsite. It feels like the perfect combination of nature, art, creativity, music, and community.
One of my favorite parts is all the sweet, friendly animals wandering around — happy doggies to greet you and even a resident cat making the rounds! 🐕🐈
It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, breathe, create something, meet wonderful people, practice yoga, listen to music, and simply enjoy being where you are.
Sierra Circle is so much more than a campground — it’s an experience. Beautiful surroundings, welcoming people, creativity, community, and plenty to explore. I’m so glad I found this little gem and would absolutely recommend it! ❤️

We had an amazing stay at Sierra Circle Sculpture Garden Hipcamp! Emily was a wonderful host, and the property is truly a hidden gem. Set on 100 beautiful acres, there is so much to explore and enjoy. The incredible sculptures and artwork throughout the property make it feel like an outdoor gallery, with many pieces connected to Burning Man and the late artist whose creativity helped shape this special place.
One of the highlights of our stay was Brice Station Winery right on the property, where we enjoyed great wine and had the chance to listen to a live band. It was such a fun and relaxing experience and added even more charm to an already unique getaway.
We also loved seeing the pottery studio and exploring the grounds. Each campsite has its own personality, making the entire experience feel special and memorable. You can truly feel the creativity, history, and heart that have gone into this property.
Thank you, Emily, for sharing such a beautiful and inspiring place with us. We made wonderful memories and would absolutely love to come back again!

Wonderful place. Peaceful with views of the ocean to one side and rolling hills on the other. Saw a Bobcat, heard coyotes and Hawks. Will definitely be back. 25 mins from Half Moon Bay and 13 miles to Alice's Restaurant.
