Primitive sites are back-to-basics: no hookups, no structures, no potable water. There is non-potable water available for washing—please bring your own drinking water. A shared composting toilet is available to all campers. Winds can be strong in spring and summer, but sites are placed on the leeward side for protection. Fires are permitted when conditions allow—check with us on arrival.
We’re just 10 minutes from Tomales, 15 from Valley Ford, and 3.5 miles from Dillon Beach. Bring a kayak or canoe and paddle from camp to the Pacific via the Estero.

This is our home but we love to share our life in the outback. We believe it will give you a better appreciation of life's simpler side. That being said, and to maintain the balance here at home, we'd appreciate if you keep your dogs in your car until you get to your site.
Our offerings include fresh air and sunshine, amazing night sky, endless views, and plenty of space and privacy to enjoy your moments in nature. You'll find our amenities and activities puposefully sparse here. Upon booking, there are about 5 miles of dirt road on the property that you are welcome to explore on foot or by bicycle.
Rustic is the theme here. There is no shower, no wifi, and no electricity available, but you will enjoy your own private spigot and the cellular service is acceptable.
For any sites located south of Ballinger Wash, your vehicle length is limited to 22' and no more than 4' overhang from the rear axle, so you don't get stuck in the crossing and block access for others. Towing services are 1-3 hours away.
Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets and amazing stargazing. These UPPER SITES are NOT OHV friendly, but any of our canyon bottom sites are a great base for your riding adventures up in Ballinger Canyon OHV. We'll be happy to recommend a site for you. **Forest Service law enforcement is actively ticketing unplated OHV on Ballinger Canyon Road. Be sure to know and abide by the laws.**
Our friendly cancellation policies vary between 24 hours for simple campsites and 72 hours for our Glamp sites and Group sites. Be sure to check the Google for distance to Cuyama Valley, and your dates for availability and site descriptions. Our ranch consists of 142 acres located at the top of East Cuesta Grade, elevation approximately 2100 ft. We are secluded and it feels like you're far away from city life yet San Luis Obispo is only a twenty minute drive away. We neighbor Los Padres National Forest which has several miles of hiking and biking trails.
On our farm we have 10 sheep, 10 goats, 29 chickens, 2 pigs, 5 dogs and a cat. Interaction with farm animals is common place as most campsites are close to our animal pastures. Bee hives are located on the property as well. Honey, eggs and firewood are available for purchase. :)

This 60 acre property is located approximately 3 miles east of San Gregorio Beach in the San Gregorio area. There is no home here, only a travel trailer on the Upper Meadow. It is very peaceful, quiet and beautiful throughout the seasons.
We are 5 minutes away from the San Gregorio General Store and cafe and 20 minutes from Alice's Restaurant. We have great cell coverage for Verizon, AT&T and Visible. Experience shows that T-Mobile does not work here and I don't know about the other internet providers.
There are four campsites, each with easy 4WD access. Two of the sites offer total isolation with amazing views while the third site, while in a nice setting, is more useful for a quick overnight stay with no views of the ocean or canyon. Please note that five easy-going cows (no bulls) reside on this property.
** Dear winter and spring campers, please consider using "Sensible Weather" for your trip protection in the event of heavy rain or even high temperatures in the summer and fall. I have not used this insurance feature but the description on Google makes it look worth considering:

Rules and FAQ:
Leave No Trace is a general rule for all campgrounds, including ours. Pick up your trash and pick up after your pets, please.
Pack-In, Pack-Out Policy means do not leave trash in our personal can or on the premises. This attracts wildlife and can pollute our campgrounds in turn.
Note for Vehicles:
For RV sites, we only allow vehicles 22 feet and under, please
4WD is recommended on our dirt road, but not required
Fire safety:
ONLY propane cooking stoves and propane fire pits are permitted. Your device MUST have a shutoff valve. No charcoal or traditional wood fires allowed. No fireworks, candles etc. No smoking please.
Modern propane cooking stoves and propane fire pits are permitted if they are over 10' away from branches and are being carefully monitored.
Regarding Wildlife:
No mushroom hunting. Many wild mushrooms can be toxic and harvesting disrupts the ecosystem. Respect wildlife. Avoid feeding or disturbing animals, observe from a distance. Please stay on designated paths, stick to established trails and clearings. If soap is necessary, use biodegradable soap to avoid contaminating the land and underground water sources.
Other Information:
Quiet hours 9 PM to 7 AM and bright lights out after 10 PM (flashlights are fine and encouraged to navigate to restroom). Wi-Fi is available free of charge, password is located in your welcome message.
Please do note that this is also where we live while we run our campground, so you may see us during the day working in the gardens or by our cabin but we do our best to leave you be.

it feels like there are no neighbors!
There is not a house in sight but the the ridge views seem to go on forever!
- There is a simple latrine at each site. A full bath house with a flush toilet and shower is available next to the main house. A water spigot is attached to the main house.
- Spare camping supplies are available by the bath house if you forget something! Ask ahead if you need to borrow a specific item.
More about the property: I built my home high upon a southern ridge. Watching the river of coastal fog flow in and out below me is one of the most wonderful views to behold! I have 30 acres of land to explore and camp upon in the surrounding redwood forest.
10 miles east are Montgomery Woods redwood preserve with GIANT trees, and a little farther, perhaps a mile is the famous Orr Hot Springs Resort. If you drive a half hour west from my land you will be in the coastal Mendocino village.
We are marijuana friendly!!

Guests love staying here "What a fantastic experience. I arrived to Cosmo’s super late after a long day going up the coast. It was a last minute book that morning, if I remember right - my campsite had fallen through. His directions were spot on, and very kindly he stayed up to take me to my site and help me get set up, even going so far as to light me a fire. His property was easily navigable in the dark, and my two wheel drive made it fine. We talked for a while - what a cool guy. He was able to give me recommendations from a friend of what to do during the next legs of my trip, which was great and really did make a difference for the rest of my week. I cooked my dinner and sat stunned looking at some of the best stargazing I’ve had in a long time.
When I woke up I realized that I had been sleeping next to a mountainside view - this was site 3. Talk about the best surprise I’ve gotten in a while unzipping a tent. The clouds were gathered in the valley and as I ate breakfast I got to watch the sun slowly clear then out. It was unbelievable.
Before I left, Cosmo let me use his indoor solar-heated shower and told me all about his projects to build his own home and roads and move towards a more sustainable future. Overall this is really the best of what I imagine hipcamp has to offer - kind property owners & unique individuals who care about their guests while also allowing them to have their own experience. If I’m ever near Mendocino I will gladly make the trip inland to stay at his property again."

The Property

This is not a "find a spot in the weeds and hope for the best" situation. Every zone has been designed and prepped so you can pull in, set up, and immediately start enjoying your trip.
The forest itself is the attraction. Tall, wind-shaped pines draped in moss & lichen. Huckleberry, salal, and sword fern in the understory. Native wildflowers in the clearings. In the wet months, the forest floor erupts with dozens of wild mushroom species — including the property's namesake, the candy cap (*Lactarius rubidus*), a mushroom that tastes and smells like maple syrup. It's a living, seasonal botanical collection, and it changes every time you visit.
You're adjacent to MacKerricher State Park. From the property, you can walk to the coast, the Haul Road trail, the dunes, Glass Beach, and the tide pools at Laguna Point. The ocean is right there, ready for adventure!

The Maple Creek Ranch and Tree Farm has been family owned and operated since 1934. The patriarch of the family, whose family had moved here from Denmark, had a great love of the forest and trains. The property was one of the first certified tree farms in California with the goal of nurturing a healthy forest. In the 1960’s, a mile of railroad tracks was laid and the whistle of a small, steam engine train could be heard throughout the community. Local residents and kids were treated to free train rides and special events for many years.
There is a natural spring with a small creek that supplies the ponds with fresh water year around. There is also a small canyon on the property with a larger stream called Mud Creek. The land is rich in Indian history and there a artifacts and other signs on the Indians presence.
The Cohasset area is relatively unknown. 15 miles from our property is Deer Creek and the Lasson National Forest is about a 2 hour drive north.
While staying with us you can pitch your tent on our private 500 acres. We have 2 primitive camping spots on our property. Each spot has a picnic table and
fire pit. There is a flush toilet shared for both camp sites. * During freezing weather the toilets may be closed so they don’t freeze! Please check before booking
*The spots are spread out to ensure privacy. Our property is surrounded by the forest and is loaded with deer, squirrels, turkeys and other forest animals. We have numerous walking trails, a fresh water pond for fishing and swimming. Please notify us if you have an RV.
Site 1 is best for RV's. Site 2 can accommodate smaller RV's.

Our property boasts 10 acres of private land nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills, while being conveniently located 7 minutes off highway 80. On a hillside full of mature oak, pine, and manzanita trees, Manzanita Mountain currently has five individual campsites, a community fire pit, and a bathhouse with two showers, sinks, and new porta-potties. Almost a mile of trails weave through a private forest on half of the property. Each spacious campsite has its own fire pit, water supply, food storage, and level surfaces to spread out your camp stove and gear. Or if you don’t feel like cooking, Auburn and Colfax are a 20 min drive or less with many great restaurant options. Manzanita Mountain is ideally located near excellent hiking and water activities too. Perfect for couples, families, or groups of families to enjoy the outdoors.

We loved our stay at Om Sweet Om. Dustin and Om have created a sweet spot to get away from it all, in comfort! They were super welcoming, and made our stay perfect. Our tent had a comfy bed and linens, and a table on which to have our meals. We enjoyed playing Scrabble (which was in the tent!,) and loved visiting with all of the furry and feathered residents. The cold plunge was a treat after a day of hiking, and the sunsets were just stunning. And their outhouse was an A+ as far as outhouses go! ; )

Beautiful scenic drive out to the campsite, including a few miles of unpaved road for some fun off-roading. The site itself is deep in the woods, incredibly quiet, and very private. I had a wonderful time here, it's the perfect peaceful getaway from the city.

My husband, 9 year old, and i had the most restorative stay at Jeremy's place. The animals were so much fun, and my son had the best time collecting and eating the chicken eggs. He also loved feeding the baby goats a little alfalfa that was provided.

What an incredible hidden gem! This was one of our favorite Hipcamp stays. The campsite felt very private, quiet, and peaceful, with beautiful panoramic views of the rolling hills and pines. We loved watching both the sunrise and sunset from camp it was absolutely stunning.
The site was spacious and easily fit our trailer with plenty of room to spread out. Our kids had a blast exploring the surrounding hills, and our dog loved all the space to roam around camp. It felt like we had the whole mountain to ourselves.
The drive in was straightforward, and the location struck the perfect balance between feeling remote while still being accessible. If you’re looking to disconnect, enjoy nature, and wake up to amazing scenery, this is the place.
We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful camping experience with incredible views. Thanks for sharing such a special spot!

Had a really magical experience at Vaza and Ludo’s place! The glamping tent was spacious and comfortable, the land was well maintained and the amenities were perfect for a relaxing weekend away from the city. Vaza especially made me feel really welcomed and was excited to hear about my plans while I was visiting. Really felt like home away from home. I would love to come back again sometime!

We had an amazing time at the Sky View cabana! The hosts were so welcoming and sweet. The grill we used was brand new and the hammocks at our site were perfect. We took a wonderful walk to the nearby winery and enjoyed seeing all of the July 4th fireworks from our awesome view from the loft bed. A peaceful and healing oasis. Would return for sure!!

This campsite was great. We stayed at Puri- there were some steep hills on the way up, but we were fine with the Outback AWD. The sites are set far enough away that you can't see the people there, but we could hear voices that carried- it wasn't bad at all, and they stopped around midnight which is when we went to sleep too.
There was a nice deep metal firepit, and they emphasized fire safety. They have firewood for sale, I think it was $20 a bundle but we brought some from Ralphs
There's a wooden picnic table and a trash can.
There was a distant view of the ocean, lots of tree in the way, but you could still see a nice sunset.
The compost toilet was a bit of a walk down the hill, maybe 100ft? There was a flush toilet, shower and sink that was a long walk down a hill and up another hill.
It was nice to have a semi-private and quiet place to camp on a holiday weekend!

What an incredible place! The drive to get was gorgeous and the directions to find it accurate. The set up to get wood and supplies was efficient, affordable and welcoming and the camp sites were beautiful. We loved the views, the fire pits, the chairs and the picnic tables. This was one of my favorite camping experiences of my life and I go camping all the time, I even owned a camp ground for a very short period of time and I was so impressed with this place.
You can tell the owner put a lot of thought into what you want when going camping and what you probably don't want. We stayed at camp site 3 which was a sweet spot for us. It was close enough to the bathrooms while giving us a absolutely breath taking view being a bit higher on the mountain. Our site seemed to be a bit larger then the other sites and we definitely made use of the space. There was 5 of us so we had 2 large tents and 2 hammocks we set up between some pine trees.
I loved that there was so much to do close by. We went to Rollins Lake one day and Bear River another day. We also hiked the Manzanita Mountain trail which winds around the side of the property and was great for the kids being only about a mile long. Shops, restaurants, grocery stores and anything else you would ever want or need including Bass Pro Shop is just a short drive away.
The amenities were amazing. We had an epic outdoor kitchen right at our camp site with water and countertops made out of huge trees. There was also hot showers at the bathrooms which we took full advantage of after our lake adventures.
This was such a great ran campground I really can't say enough about it. We got to meet the owner and his son and they were so kind and made sure that we had a blast.
We will definitely be back.
