It was such an amazing place to stay! We were blown away but the oasis feel of everything and learned a lot about the local history being there too

Wow, our stay at Karen & Dustin's was awesome! They are working so hard on the property to make it comfortable and fun for guests - we wish we could have stayed longer!
We parked our jeep and rooftop camper in the "Sand Pit" area. There were not other guests, so we were able to use the running water and flush toilet in the nearby building that is a milk-truck-turned-tiny-house. We didn't shower, but Dustin offered to fire up the water heater for a warm shower if needed. The assemblage art around the property is very cool, the barn is an awesome place to hang out, and there is a fire pit with benches and a grill to cook on. We enjoyed early mornings in the "Chapel" area as well. Super easy jaunt to JT national park, had a great visit around the town, and ate delicious food at local restaurants.
It was very windy, so we were glad we brought extra layers. Karen and Dustin were very attentive, kind, and communicative, and their dogs were friendly and quiet. I would absolutely stay again!

We enjoyed the night at this spot. The hosts were very welcoming and the camp site had flat space for tents and our camper van plus a great view of the lights of 29 Palms and the stars above. I would definitely stay there again.

We enjoyed spending the night here- especially all the fun sights around the camp spot! There was something cool to look at around every corner. Very comfortable stay and friendly hosts, and we loved having our morning coffee in the rocket!!

Such a cool and unique spot to view the mountains and look across the desert valley. Beautiful sunset, friendly host and really awesome industrial sculptures and art installations. Nice level spot for our van.

My two young daughters and I spent the night and we’re really impressed with everything. It’s a really cool setup with awesome art pieces around the site.

Dustin was great! We had some car trouble after we arrived, Dustin offered to let me use his e-bike to get into town to get the part I needed. Unfortunately it wasn't in stock but Dustin came through again and picked up the part for me from the next town over.
We planned to sleep in our tent but the wind was excessive the nights we were here so we ended up sleeping in a converted ambulance. Everyone stayed warm and comfortable and we were able to charge our devices with a thoughtful solar charging station.
Would stay again.

Great hosts and a great site. Karen & Dustin were really friendly checking us in and I enjoyed learning about their palace and the history.
Really cool place and they have put some really great work and effort in there. I will be back for sure.

This is truly a unique and special place. A must see if you are an art lover! Dustin and Karen are excellent hosts! So fun to hang in the common barn area Will definitely be back!

This is a beautiful property! Karen and Dustin were incredibly accommodating and communicative, and truly went above and beyond with their hospitality. Bathroom was very clean, and the shower and drinking water were useful amenities. Quick drive to the west JT park entrance. Though there are multiple campsites on the property, they are spaced out and feel very private. Even though out of the park, the area was dark enough for great stargazing. Will definitely return here on my next trip to the area!

We were able to book VERY last minute and Karen was super responsive. The site was just what we needed. We enjoyed our stay and even though you are closer to town that deep in the park it was more secluded and likely quieter than park campsites.

Desert Gold Camp near JT Ntl Park
Karen and Dustin have done a wonderful job turning their old historic property into one of the most unique campgrounds I have stayed at. Dustin and Karen have turned old ambulances, rocket ships, and much more into fun and cozy camp stays. They were very accommodating and friendly hosts. The property has a lot of different sleeping opportunities available depending on what “vessel” you choose. We had a pull behind trailer and were happy to park on the lot. There is an outdoor and indoor shower that were quite refreshing given the campground is in the desert. There are also fun communal hangout spots in the works. It is close to the Joshua Tree entrance and in the town of Twenty Nine Palms. Check out Dustin and Karen’s awesome property and make sure to chat them up about all the work they have put into their livable artwork.

I loved camping at Karen and Dustin’s campground. It was super fun and they were very nice and accommodating! It was very quiet with an awesome view of the stars and sunset. Looking forward to coming back next time when my friends and I go down to Joshua tree!

Desert Gold Camp near JT Ntl Park
This place was exactly what we were looking for. We travel with a small teardrop trailer with me, my husband and our two young kids. We arrived after dark and had no problems navigating to the site and Karen and Dustin were great. There are so many little places for the kids to explore and we had the whole place to ourselves. We can’t wait to come back when some of the projects are finished to see some of the progress.

My son and I had a good time camping at Desert Gold. The hosts were super nice and we were comfortable there. The site felt very incomplete but it is obvious they have big plans and an amazing vision for what it will be.

This camp site was a last minute find after poor planning led to all the park campsites to be full and WOW we loved it! Its camping in a sculpture park that I didnt really expect but was blown away by. Karen and Dustin were amazing hosts and we cant wait to go back in a few years and see all their plans for the space realized. Oh and the sky is just as dark as in Joshua tree, go during the new moon you can even see the Milky Way.

Karen and Dustin were excellent hosts! They are making improvements to their property daily and were very hospitable to us. Campsite property is very simple but was clean and we felt safe as 3 single women. They were thoughtful and brought an umbrella shield us from the shade and we were also able to purchase firewood directly from them, saving us a trip to the store :)

Karen was extremely hospitable! Great location, beautiful sunset views followed by millions of stars at night. Super close to Joshua Tree National Park. Karen was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. She was also very fast at responding to any messages or questions we had!
