An energy efficient Uniquely designed home that is off the grid and has a very green footprint with solar and windmill to charge batteries. The ownership of the land has been held since 1883 by the Summit Lime Company and was until the 1930's the site of several lime quarries one of which was used to supply material for the Owens valley to Los Angeles aquaduct.
Current utilization is for recreation, private hunting club, timber production, and cattle grazing.

We are the largest Arabian horse rescue in the United States. We are on 100 acres, but are currently using only 10 fenced acres for our horses. We have an average of 75 horses on our property. Most live in larger areas or paddocks in group "herds".
We focus on rehabilitation and training with the goal of finding permanent homes for our horses. However, we have about 30+ horses who are "sanctuary horses", either because they are older, or were traumatized, or have health issues, thus will not be rideable. Two spots are near our little Western Town, you can even sleep in the jail or inside the general store. Another location is near the horses or in a more secluded area.
We have two spots to park RVs as well.
You can visit with the horses, while enjoying some idyllic beautiful high desert vistas. At night, you can see the city lights from a distance, but it is far enough to really see the stars in the night sky (no light pollution).
Please bring your own chairs. We have a serviced porta-potty with potable water access.
Camp Fire: Because of fire danger, there are no campfires possible.
We have a working gold mine across the street, that can be hiked up to, to a certain point. We have lots of desert trails surrounding us.
Activities: Learn about horses and help at the horse rescue, feeding and watering, giving horses treats.

Okihi is approximately 15 minutes east of Downtown Bakersfield. 20 minutes away from the 99 hwy or 178 hwy. Whichever way you are traveling, we are a great stopover point.
Sites are spread around on the east side of the property facing the river for beautiful river views while you sip coffee from your site. There are a multitude of recreation opportunities to enjoy.
On site is a work in progress and you will see project sites not fully completed. We have a hammock veranda that is fully shaded and a great place to relax along the river. Miles of biking paths run on the road right by where we are situated and there is a nearby river rafting company if you want the white water experience.
Most of our campers are road tripping, getting away from LA, or are looking for a stopover on their way to/from Yosemite, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, etc. We are in a desert climate – cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Portable heaters or fans with misting options are available for rent.

It can be windy at times, in order to mitigate this I recommend using your car(s) to block the wind. Local markets also sell neck gaiters for face protection. I also have pieces of plywood with bricks that you're welcome to move and shift to fit your needs. I am in the process of building a tree/shrub wind block.
There's about .4 miles of dirt road to get to the property, there are some dips to watch out for but I come out here in a little Prius so it's manageable.
Overall, there is an element of seclusion but occasionally people do drive by on the dirt road.
I would rate the cell phone service a 7/10, it's pretty solid but can go out at times.

Enjoy a rustic, no-fuss stay on our 20-acre working farm just 15 miles south of Bakersfield, with easy freeway access. Campsites sit along the pond - perfect for catch-and-release fishing, paddle boarding, or kayaking. We have a small area with farm animals (goats, sheep, peacocks and chickens) for you to enjoy. Expect a desert climate: hot summers, cold winters.
Each site includes a small table, potable water spigot, picnic table, and fire pit (bring your own wood). All sites are BYO tent or car-camping with the exception of our one Glamping Site which includes a queen bed.
Some sites have vehicle height limits (noted in site names), and cannot accommodate pop-ups or truck campers.
Amenities include one shared indoor toilet and an outdoor hot/cold shower. There are 2 kayaks and 2 paddleboards that are free to use amongst all guests. We offer self check-in and you're welcome to arrive anytime after 1PM; checkout is 11AM. Please respect quiet hours after 10PM if arriving late.
CAMP RULES
No Pets – Our dogs roam freely and protect the farm and see other animals as threats. You will be asked to leave with no refund if you bring a pet.
Quiet Hours: 10 PM–7 AM. If we receive complaints about noise, you’ll be asked to leave immediately.
1 Tent + 1 Car are permitted per Site, with the exception of Site 4 which allows 2 tents/2 cars. If you are a large group with multiple tents and families, you will need to book multiple sites. Each site has a maximum capacity, so if you put in 12 people, it will not show you all the sites available - put in 4 people and then you can pick which combination of sites you would like for your group.
No tents or canopies on the grass/lawn area.
No fireworks or open flames outside of designated fire pits. Propane burners or grills are permitted.
Do not feed the farm dogs - no treats or food, ever.
At checkout: dispose of trash in the dumpster by Site 5, soak any hot coals, wipe down tables, and put back the kayaks and paddleboards.
Shower use: Only farm-provided shampoo and soap are allowed.

John is an awesome host with a desire to share his amazing off grid beautiful property with Hipcampers! We stayed in the studio which was spotlessly clean and fresh. The bed was comfortable, had a propane fireplace , a cooling humidifier and tv if needed and everything one might need in the kitchen. We had a wonderful quiet, peaceful and enjoyable overnight getaway!

The place is very peaceful, beautiful and FULL of character. Regardless of where you're coming from, when you end up here you'll notice the peace of the environment and how easy it is to settle into it. While my boyfriend and I were there we played with the two dogs living on the site- they get familiar with you fast if you welcome it, which we did, and it was very heartwarming- so be prepared for them (they are very sweet dogs). Back to the property lol, I honestly loved how pretty and peaceful it is, I was reminded of living on the countryside with little frogs and occasional bunny. It's really very peaceful and theres so many little habitats to witness. Theres a pond to swim in, a shower to clean yourself clean in and a toilet to handle everything else lol- Pretty much, what else do you need? If you're in a pinch there are a few spots close to the site and places to DoorDash from to get basic supplies as well as food- theres a Mexican restaurant that has super good fish tacos (shoutout Mariscos Las Islitas). My one recommendation is to bring water and something warm since thirst can sneak up on you and the nights are cold- especially if you swim in the pond like we did. Other than that, it's a beautiful spot to relax and enjoy the company of your loved ones. SO give it a try, I think you'll be glad you did :)

We had a great time at Bare All Retreat! The owners were awesome! They met us at the gate when we arrived, showed us the best place to camp, and spoke to us about the animals. During our stay we got to see and interact with various animals throughout the night including goats, cows, dogs, horses, and frogs. The site was very clean and was placed next to the steam with a well made firepit. I am 100% looking forward to staying here again later this year!

I loved camping here. It was perfect since it was our first time. Having a shower and bathroom amenities was great for my daughter. The place is beautiful! Perfect way to just spend time with family. Instructions were clear and easy to find our camping spot. The dogs are super friendly! Slept and guarded our tent. We can't wait to do it again.

Had the most amazing time at Spirit Walk! It was beautiful, serene, close to so many great trails and swimming areas. The site itself was so well maintained - it felt like they’d thought of everything. The kitchen was totally tricked out, we wanted for nothing! Finding it was super straightforward. And the site itself was super fun to explore and walk around. John was so kind, communicative and helpful whenever we spoke with him. Definitely planning to come back!

Endless acres of mountain to explore. Chickens, friendly goats, and even friendlier dog AND horses, The dogs were a massive hit, both in terms of size, and how much our dogs loved playing with and exploring the property with them. The horses were the sweetest, coming up to our campsite a couple of times to beg for some scratches and attention (including a little foal). As we hooked up to leave, they staged a farewell gathering. This place is a wonder. It’s a bit out of the way for sure, but this place is an experience, and great for a long term stay (we stayed for almost 2 weeks and wish we could have stayed longer). I was a bit afraid coming in with my 45 foot fifth wheel, as the entry requires driving down and back out of a creek bed, but Corey reassured me and literally walked me through getting in.

Fantastic camp. Really really good energy there all around. The grounds are immaculate. View was a nice surprise, gorgeous especially under the full moon. Magical really. I really enjoyed the garden tour and the fresh seasonal apricots and carrots. Just all around great place. Would Def go back. Its very well done.

Everything is well taken care of you can feel the love thats been put into the property and animals.. Meredith hospitality was great the dogs are super sweet i went with my 4yr daughter on a solo camping and she made 2 new bestfrienda! Caught and released plenty of fish!

My fiancé and I had an absolute blast staying at Spirit Walk. John was so welcoming, friendly, generous, and helpful. The camp grounds are well maintained, the cooking area is fantastic and full of all the necessary utensils and cookware. The creek was not only beautiful, but offered a very peaceful retreat within the campsite. We spent our first night cooking and talking with other guests, as well as, John. It felt like camping at a friend’s campsite, like you’ve been there before. John made the whole experience very comfortable and I really couldn’t recommend Spirit Walk enough. The way it’s spaced out, there’s a feeling of privacy, while still being a part of the larger campsite. The actual nature around you is not only beautiful, but very peaceful. I had a lovely moment swimming in the creek in the morning. That’s the closest I’ve felt to nature in a long time, and I’m very grateful for that. If you’re debating it, I’d say go for it, this place is special.

An amazing experience, genuinely a 10/10. You’re never going to find a better camping spot for the price with more amenities than anyone could ask for. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the lazy river, fossil hunting (found a killer shark tooth that was millions of years old), pet the animals (sheep, horses, dogs, cats, chickens, and everything in between), walked the trails, read in the hammocks, and the list goes on. Would 100% recommend! Katherine, is a kind soul and will take care of you without a doubt. So glad we went and will be coming back in the future for sure!

John has such a wonderful outdoor oasis he’s curated on his land, we loved our stay! So many well executed details to the property, from the design of the campsites to the outdoor kitchen, we felt right at home immediately. We will definitely be coming back in the future!

On an impromptu camp trip and discovered The Silver Spur Ranch on here. John is great and was doing work around the area when we arrived. Had a little hiccup, probably my mistake, with the booking, but he updated on his side with no problem. While the actual camp ground itself is not private, and there was a family that also came and stayed on the grounds, we were mostly left ourselves and got to enjoy the grounds. It’s beautiful and really serene, we had clear skies w/a half moon lighting our sky. Perfect for what we needed. It’s super close to Lake Isabella if you want to take a dip + close the the Sierra national Forest. Perfect for our trip. Thanks John!

When to go
The ideal time to visit Eastern Kern County Onyx Ranch SVRA is from October to April, when cooler temperatures and occasional rains create perfect conditions for off-highway vehicle recreation. Summer brings intense heat, making it less favorable for visitors. Winter months may see snowfall, adding a unique challenge to the terrain.
