Wandering Star Ranch
Plenty of room to explore. Take some time to relax on one of the swinging benches, or climb atop the pontoon and star gaze at night. Also, seening a moonrise over the hills was incredible. And this is just on the property! Take your time and explore the land beyond the gates. We'll definitely be coming back. FYI, bring plenty of shade during the summer.

We had such an amazing stay at Wandering Star Ranch! From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded our expectations. The campsite was peaceful, secluded, and the perfect place to celebrate with friends while enjoying nature. The host was incredibly kind, responsive, and made us feel so welcome throughout our stay.
I also wanted to mention that I saw a previous review about difficulty finding level camping spots, but it's clear they've put in the work to improve that. We had no issues finding a great, level area to set up, and you can tell the owners genuinely listen to guest feedback and continue making improvements.
If you're looking for a remote getaway with beautiful scenery, privacy, and hosts who truly care about their guests' experience, I can't recommend this place enough. We had an unforgettable weekend and will absolutely be coming back. Thank you again, Mark! 🌲✨

Wandering Star Ranch
A really unique private site at the edge of the hills and BLM land. With views of the lake, and a perfect jumping off point for the Lake Isabella/Kernville surrounding area. We had a big group and a great stay. Gorgeous sunsets from the top of the pontoon and some of the best star gazing you could ask for. It is rugged land, with desert critters, which is to be expected. The Porta-potty helps it be more comfortable. And with a little love and beautification, I think Wandering Star can continue to evolve. Thanks Mark! Happy 4th!
We had a great time on Mark‘s land. Everything was set up wonderfully to enjoy the property in Lake Isabella area. Amazing views of the lake and easy access to Kern River.

Camping on Marks land was fun. There is lots of room to set up, bathroom was clean, BLM land was a bonus
Great site and area, would definitely recommend. Nobody else is nearby so you have the privacy of the whole lot. All amenities onsite are well taken care of. Everything we needed was there and the bathroom was freshly cleaned for us. The shooting range onsite was great and having the BLM Land right against the property line was awesome. Highly recommend.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mark‘s Hipcamp. It was perfect for four teenage boys and a dog to run around and let loose. We used it as a basecamp to explore Sequoia National Park and Lake Isabella. There is a pontoon, a large concrete slab with picnic tables, and a clean porta-potty. We happened to get excellent weather during late December and the property was green and beautiful. There is hiking to mountains directly behind the property as well as ORV trails. Plus, there are beautiful views of the lake and mountains. We also ordered the $60 bundle of wood that had large high-quality logs. Mark was quick to respond to questions and offered us advice for places to go. Overall, this property exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend this Hipcamp! (as a sidenote, do not follow the directions from Apple or Google to turn off Larson. You can take Larson from the highway all the way back to the property.)

Wandering Star Ranch
Loved camping at this site with my friends. There was a ton of space and we were so close to everything we wanted to do. The property backs up to BLM land so if you step out the back gate you’re able to hike beautiful peaks. There’s a pontoon feature that provides great shade, a perfect place to hang a hammock, and stunning views. There’s property is just five minutes from the lake and nature preserve where we fished all week. Mark was a great host and answered all questions leading up to the trip. This was a trip for my best friends bachelor party and was the perfect spot for our group. Couldn’t have been happier. Will definitely be back with my wife soon. Thanks Mark!

Wandering Star Ranch
My group loved tent camping here at wandering star ranch! The property is huge and BLM land is incredibly close! This spot is absolutely amazing if you like off roading and shooting! We brought our dirt bike and had a BLAST!! There is a little shooting range up the hill too! The lake is close enough to go fishing too and if you run out of any supplies there is a market and gas station close by as well! The restroom was clean but there were a few black widows in there so make sure you bring something along to remove them! Mark was a great host! He was quick with responses and very helpful! We added firewood and the soak tub to our trip and mark set it all up very quickly! We will most definitely be back to camp here again!!

I loved camping at wandering star ranch! Beautiful campground, plenty of space to explore. The views of lake Isabella were amazing! The concrete pad and pontoon boat made excellent locations to cook dinner and relax.
Booking, checking in, checking out were all straight forward and easy.
Toilet was clean.
Will for sure be returning in the future!
My friends and I tent camped here for the long weekend and had the best time! Super easy to spread out yet still be together. Excessible to a lot near by and the perfect little get away to go on a hike or fish.

This is our third time staying with Mark and every time Mark is a great host and makes sure we have what we need to make our stay even a better one. We love coming here for the peace and quiet of the mountains and outdoors. The entire place is for your self or your group and if you have Atvs it’s always a safe place to ride up the hills.

Should be a great place for a large group or family gathering. We were quite happy with the place and the atmosphere. And found that one should be there more to really establish a good rhythm with the place
Mark's place was FANTASTIC. We had originally booked some sites at Headquarters Campground, but they had placed fire restrictions last min, so we decided to book the Wandering Star Ranch.
Exceptional place to play your music loud, cackle with your friends around the fire, and let your dogs run wild. Not a ton of shade, so make sure you have your pop up tents. No potable water, so make sure to bring that, too! Only 30 mins from Kern River Brewing Co. and popular trailheads.

Place was terrific. 10/10. Super remote, beautiful stars, huge place with plenty to explore.
We had an amazing experience at this campsite! The site is huge, and the vibes were perfect for a relaxed getaway. We were able to play music at night without any disturbances, which was a big plus. While there aren’t many trees for shade, it wasn’t an issue for us since we drove down to a nearby waterfall during the day, or you can plan to visit at cooler times. We were there at the end of August, which I think is the hottest time of the year.
One thing to watch out for: Google Maps took us down a sandy road, and we ended up getting stuck in the sand for over an hour. Thankfully, the campsite owner, Mark, was incredibly helpful and got us out. He was so attentive and made sure we had a smooth stay overall.
We’ll definitely be coming back!

We had a large group of adults camping here and it was so much fun! Plenty of space, lots of tables and fire pits, and the pontoon boat was such a nice touch. Porta potty was great to have too. We were there during a heat wave but spent the majority of the day at Kern River and enjoyed the warm nights at the campsite. Mark gave us some recommendations for the river and lake and was a great host!

Wandering Star had SO much space for all of our friends to drive up in separate cars and have a good distance between tents. The lil boat set up was great for views of the lake & stargazing. It got pretty windy a few nights so I recommend posting up your tent near a structure/large bushes to help break the wind. We did see some snakes so make sure to keep your kids and pups safe.
Nonetheless—We had a blast and Mark’s instructions were helpful. We didn’t need his help for anything during our stay but he let us know he could swing by if something did come up. We were a close drive to the lake & close to a market/gas station which was definitely nice. Also, the porty was clean.
Cool spot, Mark is an amazing & laid back host. Definitely would recommend.
Ps gets pretty windy at times, so dress accordingly.
We loved the privacy and freedom of this side. We will absolutely be returning in the future!

Great view, lots of space, and total privacy. Firewood on site for a reasonable price, but there’s also a general store nearby with all the essentials, beer, ice, etc. We had some rain and heavy wind during our stay, but it made for some great stories. Also has a haunted storage shed. Overall 10/10, would camp here again.

The host was incredibly nice and we had an awesome time. Super close to a really gorgeous hike with beautiful views of the lake. Short drive to convenience store and the lake. Overall, we had a great experience. It did get pretty hot during the day and windy but we honestly lucked out pretty well with the weather.

It was awesome being able to ride our dirt bikes and quads out to the BLM from the property and we got to do some shooting at the shooting range as well which is a super short walk/drive. The views of the sunset/sunrise and the lake from the property are amazing. Our stay was amazing and we hope to be back soon.

Wandering Star Ranch
This is our second time at The Wandering Stars. We love it and Mark is a great host. Plus place is super clean and has different outdoor areas in the lot for the kids to play on. We can’t wait for our next time to come here. Hot springs are close by and Lake Isabella too if you love fishing. We love the view and the OHV trail. One of the best hipcamps we have found. Can’t wait for our next family gathering here.

Wandering Star was fantastic. The property was beautiful and had plenty of space for our group to camp. It is just a short way from town if you need anything, but butts up against BLM land making it feel even more expansive and provides great access for hiking or exploring. Highly recommend!

We had a great time at the Wandering Star Ranch celebrating my birthday with a group of about 10. Lots of Sun, so we brought easy-ups for more shade. Lots to explore in the area. We went up to Kern River to swim, and did some dirt biking both from camp and also loaded the bikes in the trucks and drove over to “Just Outstanding” trail. The camp spot is huge, so we had plenty of room to spread out. It’s a great option to explore the area and have some privacy and not be camp next to a bunch of other groups of people. The farm fresh eggs were a nice touch, and made for a delicious breakfast!

Just a short drive from Kernville and directly adjacent to beautiful lake Isabella, Wandering Star Ranch is well-situated for relaxation or waterborne adventure.
Peaceful and enjoyable describes our stay at Wandering Star Ranch. During our short visit, my husband and I set up tent in the quiet solitude offered at this open-sky Hipcamp. The camping plot was well-maintained, and offered nice places to kick back and relax as well as plenty of space to roam. Equipped with fire rings, picnic tables, and access to a simple toilet facility, this Hipcamp offered the essentials for an enjoyable night of tent lodging.
The views at Wandering Star Ranch are picturesque and diverse. Each corner of the property offers a unique, beautiful view of mountain landscapes.
If you find yourself in the area, and in need of a ruggedly beautiful, low-key spot to rest, Wandering Star Ranch is a nice option. Thank you for sharing your Hipcamp with us!

We enjoyed staying at Mark's property! It was so nice to have so much space just to ourselves. We brought our dogs and our kitten and they all enjoyed themselves very much too. The outhouse was very clean and the fresh eggs were awesome. Lake Isabella is very low but the Kern River was great out of Kernville (about 20 min from the property). Our dogs swam and so did our kitten! Would definitely come back.
