2 nights at Heartwood Mendocino

We had the best stay in cabin 8 at Heartwood! The property was well thought through, it has everything you will need for your relaxing stay. The bathrooms are so nice and they are maintained daily. The fire pit and hammocks were a bonus. The king bed in cabin 8 is so cozy, we stayed in bed extra long because it was so quiet in the redwoods. We brought our own camp stove so we could cook near our cabin. We can’t wait to come back and possibly rent the whole place for a birthday party weekend! Would highly recommend.

Quaint little cabin, super cozy for two people and our little dog. Loved the peace and quiet. Keep in mind there is no cell service (depending on your provider) and the wifi was only usable in the common areas. Didn't use the kitchen, but the shower was nice and hot and having plumbing was nice. It was a beautiful 3 nights that we stayed.

We really enjoyed our stay in the Sunshine Cabin at the Baby Banana Slug Farm. The five-acre wooded property is off the beaten path and provides a nice landing pad to explore the Mendocino coast. The description and photos are accurate. Nate is a very friendly and helpful host. Our dog was able to wander around off leash and she loved it. The cabin was comfortable, communal kitchen was well equipped, and the bath house was just fine. It was an outdoorsy but very comfortable experience.

I had a wonderful stay at the casita—it’s a super cool, spacious, and bright cabin with tons of charm and privacy. The twinkling lights, fire pit, hammocks, shaded seating areas, and even a disco ball made the outdoor space feel magical. The professional community kitchen was fully stocked with everything I needed, and the plumbing, sinks, and unique outdoor shower were clean and convenient. The large property is incredibly dog-friendly, and the host was warm and welcoming. The only downsides were the midday heat, which made it tough to stay cool, and a few too many flies and ants—but overall, it was a truly special and memorable stay!

The host is incredibly kind has provided an escape to nature that retains modern comforts. If you want the outdoor itch to be scratched but don't have the bandwidth to plan a camping trip, this is the perfect escape.

My 6 yo son and I had a mommy-son Glamping trip and we couldn’t have had a better time. Jacob was an amazing host and the property was lovely. We slept well in the Roadrunner A-frame, made full use of the pizza oven and amply supplied kitchen, enjoyed the outdoor shower, and lounged around all day in the hammocks. Gertie the dog was a big hit with my son and I as well. We will definitely be coming back, can’t recommend highly enough.

Weekend Trip to Mystic Forest Campground

We stayed in Birdie two nights and loved it. The camper was clean, stocked with extra towels and blankets, and right next to an awesome redwood. Patrick was fantastic and told us all about the redwood forest history. Very welcoming. This is a great spot with close hikes and breathtaking views of the beach and forest. We did the damnation trail and saw a few sunsets at the beaches right around the corner from the camp.

I loved the place! The hosts are very kind and friendly, and there was no interference from them at any time. The kitchen is fully equipped, so you can cook whatever you like. The campfire experience was excellent, and the surroundings are quiet and beautiful. The camp is well-prepared with everything you need, including a heater and lights. I highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a peaceful camping experience in a clean and relaxing environment.

Weekend Trip to FEEL GOOD CAMP

My stay in the gypsy wagon was relaxing and cool. The temperature outside was hot during the day and cold at night, between the fan with screened window to cool it down and the space heater to warm it up- it stayed very cozy. Comfy sheets and bed, clean public bathrooms, showers and kitchen available. Make sure to bring your own towels. There’s a parking place to charge an electric vehicle. The camp is set up in a very communal way with all tents and glamping surrounding two communal fire pit areas with nice wood aderonback chairs and hammocks to lounge in. Not for the party crowd- perfect for those wanting peace and quiet.

Weekend Trip to May's Luxury Farmstays

What a wonderful experience!!! The view was incredible, especially for sunrise- would recommend waking up early to see it. The Yurt and site in general was so cozy- it was a comfortable temperature inside the yurt, there was a great picnic table and patio table and chairs to chill at outside. The grill / stove with the cast iron provided a standout cooking experience that really made us feel like we were glamping. The yurt had basically anything you could imagine for cooking, so no need to bring knives, cutting boards, pots, pans, spatulas, etc. you just have to search the drawers to find what you're looking for! 3 things to note about staying here- it's right off the main highway and motorcyclists seem to love driving around at all hours of the night, so would recommend earplugs if you're a light sleeper. We also forgot to bring bugspray and there are mosquitos around, so while they had a mosquito trapper, would highly recommend bringing some bug spray. Luckily they weren't terrible, but were worst in the morning for us. Also, the hose at our site didn't work, so we didn't use the tub because we couldn't figure out how to turn the water from the hose on. There was a bathroom with a good shower, so we were totally fine not using the tub. They also had a well stocked bar & ice machine that was very thoughtful, though we didn't end up using it. There was also a trail on the grounds to get to the main road, which was perfect for hiking straight from the site, no driving needed!!

We loved the clean and pretty site. Facilities are well maintained.

Estero San Antonio Wonderland

Camp with sweeping views of beautiful pastureland in West Marin. Enjoy privacy, birds singing, cows, chickens, food from the farm, and hiking our gorgeous land that is on the Estero San Antonio. The campsites are spaced far apart from one another to ensure some privacy. It is very quiet out here at night. If there are other campers you might hear them in the distance. All campsite are located overlooking the Estero and close to the grass road to enter and exit the property. You will have access to some of our pastures for picnics and leisurely walks. When you check in we will give you directions to a few special places around the surrounding area and see if you would like some grassland finished beef, lamb, pork, eggs, or vegetables all grown or made on our ranch. We offer other care packages, ask us when you arrive (include, home made focaccia, sourdough bread, local cheeses, etc...) A liability waiver will be needed to be signed. This is primitive camping, There is water but it is not potable. so bring your own drinking water. It can get very windy out here in Spring and Summer. Come prepared. We have situated the campsites to be on the leeward side and as protected as possible. We try to leave the land better off than we found it and hope that you will share the same respect for the pristine beauty of this place. We are 10 minutes away from the quaint town of Tomale and 15 minutes from the town of Valley Ford. Dillon Beach is only 3.5 miles away. Bailes Farm

One of the last remaining undeveloped parts of Southern California, De Luz Heights is located adjacent to the Cleveland National Forest, and the Santa Margarita River (just a few miles from the campsite). On my 60 acres, there are no major roads going through or next to the property. My land is 13 miles from the Pacific ocean and enjoys a relatively mild yearly climate. Giant boulders provide topographical relief and offer platforms from which to enjoy the view of the nearby Santa Margarita Mountains. The valley views are filled with olive and avocado groves, vineyards, and horse ranches. The Camp Pendleton Marine Corps base is nearby, so you might hear some artillery in the distance on some occasions. The campsite embraces all the comforts of "glamping": a hot shower, composting toilet, beds with sheets provided, gas grill with a stovetop, pots and pans, kitchenware, a sink, picnic table, shaded deck, sofa, lounge chairs, and propane fire pit. The basics are provided: toilet paper, paper towels, purified drinking water, towels, sheets, cooking oil, etc. Campers need to bring their own blankets. I've created a network of hiking trails for especially fit hikers looking for a more rigorous hike than the nearby Santa Margarita River Trail. My trails lead through creek beds, over boulders, through rocky crags, with views of the Pacific ocean on a clear day. Hikers on my trails need to wear proper hiking boots with good traction. Sections of my trails will require bouldering with hands and feet. Expect to have fatigued quadriceps, some scrapes, and a sweaty hat brim. The campsite is accessible with a two-wheel drive vehicle; I drive a Kia Forte out there regularly. However, some tips when driving a two-wheel drive car: when going uphill on a dirt road, try to keep some momentum of about 12-15 MPH. If you stop and try to start again, your tires will spin out. If that happens, just reverse down the hill, and try it again with more momentum.

There are many things to do such as hiking at Land of Medicine Buddha or Forrest of Nisene Mark, Stroll around at Capitola Village, Have coffee and do awesome thrift shopping in downtown Aptos or in Soquel, Get some free foods from Free Food church on Wednesday evening (Yes, locally grown organic produce!), have a picnic on the cliff to watch the sunset, this town kind of remind you what's like to be in town without big boxes and franchise stores everywhere, life as its finest. This campground is also a great setting for your celebrations with two stages, a celebration area, a stone fired pizza oven and a sound systems (These are extras). We also have two sites for Private Group Camping for RV and Tent camping if you want to have a separate area away from anyone else. They can accommodate at least 15 people. Please check out those sites if you plan to come in a group. If you bring your dogs or children we have a trail for you to stroll around the property in a natural setting. The family farm and residence were established during the late 1970s on the site of the historic Peter’s Dairy Ranch. The original farmhouse dates back to the late 19th century and survived the great 1906 earthquake. Today, the 7-acre farm is being restored to sustainably support fruit orchards, cottage flower and kitchen gardens, honey bees, a boisterous flock of chickens, and naughty shetland sheep. Our self-serve farmstand attached to our barn has seasonal flowers, organic eggs, heirloom fruit, and local goods from the farm. Our property is the perfect rustic getaway for backpackers and outdoor enthusiasts. You’ll be surrounded by farm/ranch life: chickens clucking, roosters crowing, bees buzzing, and sheep bleating. My aunt and uncle bought the property in 1947 from its first European settler, Paolo Gabrielli, who immigrated in early 1914 from northern Italy with slips of his grapevine in the lining of his coat. (The grapevine still grows over the back deck.) What can you expect? Quiet, beauty, birdsong, ocean roar, widely spaced campsites (only 5 on the 5 acres set aside for camping). Free firewood, local tips on travel and where to hike or what to visit. Or total solitude. Bring your (most non-cattle-chasing breeds) dogs if you wish (males must be neutered). Starlink internet. Walk to the beach of our wild ocean along a no-shoulder country road. We have no visible neighbors, no ambient light or sound. The air is clean and clear and the water is potable from an artesian spring on the property. No electricity at the sites and no generators allowed. (Charge your electronics at the farmhouse.) We offer homemade soup, cobbler, fresh bread, morning coffee as extras; you can order with the booking. The Victorian village of Ferndale is three miles east, as is a beautifully maintained 110-acre town wilderness with hiking trails called Russ Park. A 150-year-old cemetery slopes down a hillside & is filled with 19th century charm and history. Shops and restaurants welcome visitors. There are several bars/a wine bar/and a historic saloon that's as old boy as it was in 1890. A music venue in a restored 19th century church has amazing acoustics and attracts international talent as a top-notch venue (sessions are filmed for PBS) midway between Portland and San Francisco. So, it's a mix of town and country, village and farm, wilderness and bewilderedness. Sites on our lower property by the common area are easily accessible with views up the hills/mountains but come with some highway noise. We imagine it sounds like waves crashing and call it the "steel river." For your private camp area, please bring your own drinking water, water to wash dishes and if think you'll need: chairs, camp tables, umbrellas or shade structures, trash bags/cans (throw your trash in the dumpster out side our entry gate when you leave. Plan on being fully self-sufficient. Otherwise, feel free to use the common area BBQ, Sink, tables and chairs at the barn until 10 pm. MOST DOGS WELCOMED... WE PROHIBIT UN-neutered aggressive breed dogs. DOGS ARE FREE TO RUN UNLEASHED ALL OVER OUR LAND. The front of our property is all. Fenced. The back property just has barbed wire. ABOUT OUR DOGS: We have one female dog and three male dogs (one of the three is UN-NEUTERED) a 10-year-old yellow lab (Titan-Dan.) A 14-year-old American Dingo (Reno.) 5-year-old Great Pyrenees (Bandit.) And then there is Cannoli a 7-year-old female Great Pyrenees who adopted us we saw her come through the bushes from the neighbors property across the highway… She ran across the highway and jumped the medium and ran up to our gate, she hasn’t left since… COMMON USE AREA: Inside and near the barn include tables, chairs, hammocks, wood fire pit, outdoor propane BBQ and stove, wash sink and outdoor mineral shower, and mineral cold plunge tubs. FIRE SAFETY and PROPANE FIREPITS: We have “very safe” propane firepits and fire extinguishers at every site. Under the right conditions, we will light a real wood fire at the common area by the barn. Feel free to join us in the early evening until 10pm. PORTA-POTTIES: We have porta-potties next to the Barn, the Garden, Running Dog Flats, and the Art Studio. They are pumped clean every Thursday and are generally very lightly used. If you don’t want to use the porta-potties we recommend/encourage you to bring your own camp toilet, bags, and absorbent. WILDLIFE: Our dogs do a great job of fending off the resident bobcat and coyotes on the front portion of our property and by the barn, if they are barking in the night there's a reason. If you end up camping on the front portion of our property and think their barking will affect your sleep, bring earplugs ;-). Drinking-WATER, Dish Washing Water and Shade: All of our sites are dry camping i.e. there is no potable water available. Please bring all your own drinking/dishwashing water. We have a picnic table and 1 umbrella at all the sites. Please bring additional shade i.e. easy up or other shade structures if you think you'll need it. Cold Mineral Dunks and Hot Outdoor Mineral Shower: We have huge aluminum cowboy cold dunk tubs available at what we lovingly/jokingly refer to as our very own “Cactus Flower Beach,” which is not a real beach… It feels like a beach because we’ve decked it out with lounge chairs, a daybed cabana, 150K pounds of sand and tiki-hut umbrellas. It’s fun to hang out there when it’s hot under the shade of the pepper trees. NOTE: The Outdoor Shower screening is a tad see-through. If you are shy, wear a bathing suit. Please limit showers to 3-5 minutes max. Mineral Water Definition: Water from a mineral spring or well (i.e. our well) that contains various minerals, such as salts and sulfur compounds. TRASH: Please pack all your trash out to the large trash bin located at the entrance to our property. Please take your recycling with you. There is a beautiful holistic gift store, The Sea Trader, Four Eyed Frog Bookstore, and some lovely art galleries in town. Kayaking is available at the Gualala River. Hiking at Gualala Regional Park, the Bluff Trail, The Sea Ranch public access beaches, Stump Beach, Salt Point Park with a petrified forest, Bowling Ball Beach with its amazing natural formations (can only be seen fully at low tide of more than -0.2m), Manchester State Beach, Elk Beach, and more. Swimming at the Navarro River, and various bays. It is a place of incredible scenic beauty all along CA 1. Watch whales spouting during whale season. (Gray whales and orcas is December to May. If you are looking for a unique experience and up for rustic accommodations among goats, chickens, a permaculture food forest with a few off-grid perks, we welcome you to join us in our mountainous, wilderness paradise! Our 160-acre property is surrounded by about a million acres of National Forest. Our neighborhood is all made of trees, huckleberry bushes and animals. We love it here. It is very remote, peaceful, and functionally sustainable in its focus. The closest neighbor is a Buddhist Hermitage about a mile up the forestry road. Also, supposedly, Sasquatch live here! (it is the epicenter for documented sightings). Most visitors to the area are interested in spending time in the redwoods – we are about 30-45 minutes from the nearest entrance to Jedediah Smith Park, home of Stout Grove and other beautiful redwood hikes. Driving into Crescent City, about 45-60 minutes, winds you right through the "gentle giants" on your way to or from Redwood National Park. We are self-sufficient, and sustainable in a relatively primitive set-up, especially after the fire this year. It's mountainous and remote, and we have a community agreement about no smoking (of any kind) on our land.
