Weekend Trip to Wackalulu's Wonderland

We loved the space! It was lovely, romantic, cozy and wacky! Lynda met us, showed us around the property - a cozy little boat house cabin, showers, and a well stocked kitchen. They'd even prepped the fire pit for us so all we had to do was light it! The late night lighting was romantic and we really enjoyed ourselves. We'll be back for sure.

2 nights at Wackalulu's Wonderland

My husband and I (and our dog!) celebrated our 30th anniversary at the Cozy Cabin. Lynda and Rich have created an adorable creekside oasis! From hanging out on the comfortable porch to walking our dog around the creek, in the woods and to the skatepark to our nightly activity of watching the bats swooping over the creek with a warm fire. The cabin has everything you need and the bed is very comfortable. We highly recommend The Cozy Cabin and we'll be back!

We booked this place for a long weekend getaway and the experience was beyond our expectations! Lynda and Rich put their hearts and souls into creating this beautiful paradise! Wackalulu’s is the kind of place that makes you smile without ever having to try too hard. It’s very comfortable, thoughtfully designed, eccentric, private, and surrounded by nature—like a bougie mix of Swiss Family Robinson meets Pirates of the Caribbean. The hosts are genuinely friendly and fun, if you are in the mood for a chat, but they also have their own space if you are in the mood to be alone. The thoughtful touches elevate the experience. The location is ideal: a short walk to a genuinely healthy and delicious brunch spot and an easy drive (or leisurely stroll) to the Russian River. One of those rare places that's both relaxing and slightly adventurous, and unique but not gimmicky. Spend time wondering the yard and all there is to look at. Would absolutely return.

We had a fun stay at Sugarloaf. The tent was nice - but no screen on the door flap. The fans were a great addition inside to keep air circulating. The view of the meadow and stars was phenomenal. Quail, deer and jackrabbits spotted on our evening walks.

I wish that I was a good liar and say that I hated it. But fortunately I'm not a good liar : ) Highly recommended! Serenely quiet, as the day starts to dim. Except for nature. Birds whistling, churping talking to each other. Squirrels doing their thing, moths and butterflies and other bugs. This is beautifully simple nature. Loved it! Bring bug spray - it's nature : )

This campsite is a great option to transition into real camping. Comes with great amenities and the volunteers at the visitor center are wonderful. I would like to note that the glamping sites feel pretty close to others so it doesn’t feel as private as I’d like.

11 nights at Zen Teahouse Studio in the forest

I stayed at the Zen treehouse retreat for a solo 10-day meditation retreat. Everything about my stay was perfect. The small fridge along with a cooler that I brought gave me ample space for 10 full days. The outdoor shower worked smoothly. There was access to beautiful walking trails to continue walking meditation. At times there was some gentle neighborhood sounds, but those are always a benefit in my book.

1 night at Salmon Creek Ranch

Looking for some time in nature, I found this beautiful treehouse. It exceeded expectations in every way. It’s also only 1.5 hours from SF. The nature is all around and staying up in the trees is an amazing experience. The room itself is very comfortable and the floor to ceiling glass windows with tree views was very unique. There were great hikes from the property and excellent food (steak and eggs) to cook provided by Lesley and John. There is a private picnic table, fire pit and Weber grill for mealtime. Truly an unforgettable experience - I look forward to coming back.

We loved the location, away from it all, and the house had everything you will need. Hallelujah was very responsive to showing us around. Loved the artwork in the house and in the art studio, even purchased some to bring home!

2 nights at Glynraven Gardens

Clark was such a kind host and this was such a wonderful first glamping experience! Originally, we booked the lotus bell tent but the weather in June was unexpectedly cold. Clark showed us around the property and we ended up staying in the airstream because it had heat/AC. It also has its own patio and view of the valley. It’s also a bit quieter and more secluded than the other tent sites as the peacocks and chickens seemed to stay around the areas closer to the pool.

The spot is peaceful and beautiful. Actually the first HipCamp location I have found that matches the photos on the site. My 2020 Ford Ranger squeezed through the trees on the short road in. Great communication from Dan who went above and beyond.

Your campsite has a cast iron tub for soaking day or night and an on demand hot water heater power shower when solar is not available. Water is piped to camp however we are an absolutely NO camp fire camp until further notice. Thank you for understanding ♾🙏 This is a ranch with many animals including four sweet but dirty dogs, a pony, goat, 4 ducks, 3 turkeys and a few chickens running around.... Although they all hang out by the main house for the most part you might be visited by the free rangers...especially if you dish out any petting be prepared to give some more 😂 If animals aren’t your thing just tell them to go home they understand that! Because of the high amount of animals here that are free range dogs are not allowed at this time sorry..... anyone under 18 must be under parental supervision at ALL times. Located within 45 minutes of the wine country and 2 miles from the coast, our property is 400 acres of rolling hills and redwood groves, with a creek running along its base. With miles of trails meandering through quiet woods and meadows, you will be able to revel in the tranquility of a private preserve, without sacrificing easy access to some of Sonoma County's most famous attractions. A hundred years ago, this land was used to graze sheep. Remnants of the old fence lines can still be seen in places, along with old cement troughs. Since then, the land has been left to its own devices, passing through many hands, most famously owned by two brothers in the 1980's who built a truly amazing tree house in the forest which has been featured in several magazine articles. It was revamped and updated in 2016 by a master craftsman, using fallen redwood logs found on the property and is now a unique structural work of art, available for overnight stays. We produce 100% grass fed, dry-aged beef on our certified organic pastures and have a store on site if you would like to purchase delicious steaks, ribs, ground beef for hamburgers or some roasts to take home. Our cattle graze on the native grasses, never grain, and drink only water produced from our own springs. We also raise Kiko meat goats and produce pastured, certified organic duck eggs on a commercial basis. Whether it's surfing at sandy beaches, award-winning clam chowder, a wine tour, horseback riding or a hot air balloon ride you're after, you won't have far to drive if you make our ranch your base camp. You may see a family of deer appear suddenly, or a few Scottish Highland cows which we allow to roam freely over the property. There are over twenty species of wild birds that grace this protected spot, so bring your binoculars! A portion of your fee goes towards protecting native flora and fauna as part of our private wildlife preservation program. Welcome to our family land! As an educator, I run the camp during summers primarily. As a proudly affordable option in Calistoga, all camps are set up to be user ready and campers are responsible for leaving the sites cleaned up and “better” than you found it. If this sounds good, read on! We offer rustic nature, space for tents and smaller RVs, and two levels of cabin camping just 10 minutes outside of our hometown, Calistoga. Our land is beautiful with amazing views and lots of wildlife - which comes with your fair share of roughing it. All sites have their own compost toilet and handwashing station. For glamping experience, CORAL CABIN guests have hot shower access at the Hilltop “Cafe,” which also has a grill, sink, power outlets and Wi-Fi, coffee maker, microwave and toaster, and bathtubs for an extra charge. Water is precious up here so please conserve. *Coral Cabin is at Hilltop “Cafe” and has the only access to the amenities here. This is also the largest, flattest spot for and RV, with great views and cabin access if you wanted. This cabin is our premier ‘roughing it’ experience complete with electricity, WI-FI, TV with Roku, and an AC unit. *Married Manzanitas campsite or cabin rental is high clearance or walk-in only (no RV access) and has an ambient temperature shower at their site fed by a hose. (Hose may need to be turned on at hilltop.) If you choose to rent this cabin, this is our really roughing it experience with no Wi-Fi or electricity, just walls, high ceiling, floor, door and bed (comfy futon). It is very peaceful. Camp has a propane fire pit on request, camp stove, and table/chair seating areas (for 2). *Shaded Oak is furthest from hilltop but can accommodate small trailers (up to 15 feet…), also great sunsets and a rough trail down to our ‘fern gully’ area. Lovely site with relatively easy access to the driveway. Currently no shower access, but has propane fire pit, table and chairs, and water for handwashing. All sites: Pack your trash (just to the trashbin at the bottom of hill)! Add mulch to the toilets! Leave it better! We are proud to be an affordable option in Calistoga and If you can read and agree to the respectful use guidelines that will be sent to you when you request to book, we would be happy to host you!

Sugarloaf Ridge State Park Glamping

We have four lovely Glamping sites at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park and 25 miles of hiking trails, nestled in the glorious chaparral of the Mayacama Mountain Range and Sonoma Hills, deep in the heart of wine country. The cost is $150 per night on weekends (Fri and Sat) and $125 per night on weekdays (Sun-Thurs). There is a 2-night minimum stay required between Memorial Day and Labor Day. In our family-friendly campground, our tents are 16-Foot Canvas and come with one queen-size bed, two futon lounge chairs (May be converted to twin beds), rugs, tables, lighting, and complementary firewood the first night. At no additional cost, we can add up to two twin beds to each tent upon request to sleep up to 6 people. 8 people max allowed at the campsite. The glamping sites include a picnic table, fire ring, outdoor seating, and room for additional tents if desired. All sites are easy walking distance to flush toilets and a bathhouse, with large, clean, coin operated hot shower rooms. There is no cell service in the park, but free WiFi is available at the Visitor Center. PLEASE NOTE that Bedding (sheets, pillows, blankets) IS NOT included in a standard rental, but is available as an add-on. Guests are encouraged to bring their own bedding whenever possible. If no bedding is added, we will assume a one-queen setup with mattress covers only. We kindly ask guests to provide at least 48-hour notice if bedding will be required. We will always try to accommodate last-minute requests, but we cannot guarantee this. PETS and SMOKING ARE NOT ALLOWED INSIDE our glamping tents! This is strictly enforced, and you WILL be charged a $150 cleaning fee for any violation of this policy. Parking: Your reservation includes parking for one vehicle. There is an additional $10 per night per vehicle charge for more than one vehicle, which you can pay for at the Visitor's Center upon check-in. Please note that a $25 setup/cleaning fee is charged per reservation, plus a booking fee. Since 2012, operation of Sugarloaf Ridge State Park has been spearheaded by the Sonoma Ecology Center. Thanktuary Retreat

Here on the ridge above Gualala, lies nestled a lovely and serene campground called Thanktuary Retreat. There are also 2 tent sites available on the property, located in one large area, further away from the RV sites. Barely 7 minutes away is downtown Gualala, with amenities such as 2 supermarkets, pharmacy, bakery, restaurants and more. There is a beautiful holistic gift store, The Sea Trader, Four Eyed Frog Bookstore, and some lovely art galleries in town. Kayaking is available at the Gualala River. Hiking at Gualala Regional Park, the Bluff Trail, The Sea Ranch public access beaches, Stump Beach, Salt Point Park with a petrified forest, Bowling Ball Beach with its amazing natural formations (can only be seen fully at low tide of more than -0.2m), Manchester State Beach, Elk Beach, and more. Swimming at the Navarro River, and various bays. It is a place of incredible scenic beauty all along CA 1. Watch whales spouting during whale season. (Gray whales and orcas is December to May. For humpbacks, visit May through November, and for blue whales, the largest animal on Earth, plan your stay between July and October). Bower Park, just 0.5 miles away with a lovely lake, tennis courts, a baseball field, a basketball court, and two separate playgrounds. Play disc golf or hike along the nature trail/fitness course. Anchor Bay is 5 miles up CA 1, with a supermarket, a few cafes, restaurants (including a great Thai place!) laundromat, hair salon, and more. The quaint town of Point Arena is 12 miles north, with a supermarket, Frannie's Cup And Saucer, The Bird Cafe, a beautiful historic lighthouse, a theater, a pier, a mini-safari park (B Bryan Preserve with zebras, giraffes and more. Tours need to be booked in advance). Also visit Roots, a natural pharmacy for herbs, teas and supplements. There are also spots like Occidental, Bodega Bay, Jenner (with the Russian River to kayak and swim) and Timber Cove, all on the way to Gualala from the south. Bodega Bay has lovely spots to eat, with clam chowder, fish and chips. Enjoy wind and water sports, and walk on the pier.

You can take a gorgeous coastal drive to Bodega that is only 15 miles away. Historic Fort Ross is another beautiful 20 mile coastal drive. Bike Enthusiast love the back roads out here and the Biggest Attraction Is… Wait for it…. Wineries are everywhere! During the summer there are several Music Venues close by too. The Rio Nido Roadhouse has outdoor music on the weekends. Rockin the River is every other Thursday in Guerneville. The Monte Rio Variety Show just celebrated it 111th year to a sold-out crowd. Zac Brown, Steve Miller, Jimmy Buffet, James Taylor are just a few Headliners that have been here in the past.We have a great Lightwave coffee shop across the creek that is a quick 5 minute walk. Whaleback Ridge Cabins & Camp

Welcome to our family land! As an educator, I run the camp during summers primarily. As a proudly affordable option in Calistoga, all camps are set up to be user ready and campers are responsible for leaving the sites cleaned up and “better” than you found it. If this sounds good, read on! We offer rustic nature, space for tents and smaller RVs, and two levels of cabin camping just 10 minutes outside of our hometown, Calistoga. Our land is beautiful with amazing views and lots of wildlife - which comes with your fair share of roughing it. All sites have their own compost toilet and handwashing station. For glamping experience, CORAL CABIN guests have hot shower access at the Hilltop “Cafe,” which also has a grill, sink, power outlets and Wi-Fi, coffee maker, microwave and toaster, and bathtubs for an extra charge. Water is precious up here so please conserve. *Coral Cabin is at Hilltop “Cafe” and has the only access to the amenities here. This is also the largest, flattest spot for and RV, with great views and cabin access if you wanted. This cabin is our premier ‘roughing it’ experience complete with electricity, WI-FI, TV with Roku, and an AC unit. *Married Manzanitas campsite or cabin rental is high clearance or walk-in only (no RV access) and has an ambient temperature shower at their site fed by a hose. (Hose may need to be turned on at hilltop.) If you choose to rent this cabin, this is our really roughing it experience with no Wi-Fi or electricity, just walls, high ceiling, floor, door and bed (comfy futon). It is very peaceful. Camp has a propane fire pit on request, camp stove, and table/chair seating areas (for 2). *Shaded Oak is furthest from hilltop but can accommodate small trailers (up to 15 feet…), also great sunsets and a rough trail down to our ‘fern gully’ area. Lovely site with relatively easy access to the driveway. Currently no shower access, but has propane fire pit, table and chairs, and water for handwashing. All sites: Pack your trash (just to the trashbin at the bottom of hill)! Add mulch to the toilets! Leave it better! We are proud to be an affordable option in Calistoga and If you can read and agree to the respectful use guidelines that will be sent to you when you request to book, we would be happy to host you!

Pickle Barrel Cabin and Camp

This 10 acre property is located on the coastal ridge, often above the fog. You will be on the Pacific plate looking across to the North American plate, looking down on the San Andreas fault! Near artsy, coastal towns. Wonderful location for relaxing after a day of hiking and exploring beaches and forests.. In the winter months, it can provide a peaceful retreat and often dramatic storm watching. Peaceful, security-gated property with a campsite for RV's/tent camping for maximum of 6, and the charming Pickle Barrel cabin for 2 is available. You can book either one or both. Either way, you will have the entire site for your stay. Outside wood campfires are allowed unless there is a fire ban, propane fire pits are allowed year round. Hot showers are available 15 minutes away with purchase of a day pass and quarters. The owners and their dog live on site about 50 yards away. You may see us doing our walks. Centrally located. 10 minutes from beaches, rivers, state parks, Stornetta Lands National Monument, and towns, i.e., Gualala, Point Arena, or Anchor Bay.
