Visiting this property is a very unique experience, some describe it as “glamorous camping”. No photoshoots, parties or cats allowed. We are really in NATURE here - these are older cottages hand-built by artists in the forest. They are very rustic! It's like living in a mountain village, with other cottages nearby. While we work very hard to keep our places pristine and spotless - if anyone in your group will faint if they see a bug or lizard or little frog inside - then this probably isn't the place for you. Please be very careful booking cottages for someone else - like your parents just arriving from another continent - they might prefer something more conventional. Some folks describe our places as a luxurious form of camping. We make our cottages very comfortable - they have all the basics - electricity - wifi - most have kitchens, bath or shower and comfy clean beds. But they are not like a hotel with perfect walls and a sterile atmosphere. Please look at all the pictures and read all the reviews. We can't offer refunds just because we don't meet the standards of a normal hotel. A lovely rustic cottage nestled under oak trees, with creeks and private hiking trails. It's perfect for folks who love glamorous camping in a natural canyon environment! Please note: This is not like a normal hotel - it is extremely rustic and in deep nature. If you expect Holiday Inn, then you may be disappointed. Most people love the rustic nature of our property and experience it like very luxurious Glamping. Pls check photos carefully - the private full bathroom is detached from the cabin. This charming wooden home features a spacious covered deck with outdoor kitchenette, 2 x queen beds and full bathroom- it feels like you are floating in an oak forest. Two creeks meet down below. This unique cottage was actually taken from a Japanese Gardens, and re-constructed here. The upstairs has a large bed and is very spacious, with the lovely rafters nearby overhead. There is a second bed downstairs which accompanies a wrap around couch and table. Amenities included: highspeed WIFI, separate private bath with a tankless water heater that never runs out of hot water, kitchenette, 2 x queen beds, large sofa and many windows. ** Visiting this property is a very unique experience, some describe it as “glamorous camping”. This tiny cabin is in the middle of a historic part of Topanga. It's cute and our most modest rental with a plush queen mattress, patio mini dining / living area + hand sink. There is a solid hard wood oak floor in main room and cherry hardwood in the bedroom area. . This listing has a detached bathroom with shower, which is about twenty feet away. Please be easy going and respectful, very quiet after dark. No parties please. Lost in the trees

We loved our time here. The land and property are peaceful while being minutes away from anything you need. The loft felt like a spacious treehouse, very clean and cozy. I couldn't get enough of the expansive kitchen views!! We spent a lot of time on the large deck as well. Only recommendations would be: more basic provisions like paper towels and sugar. The deck could use a deep cleaning and furniture maintained.

We had such a great time in the Quaint Cabin at Topanga Oasis. It was peaceful and relaxing, and the views along the private trail were beautiful. We didn’t spend any time in the town, but the convenience to Malibu beaches was also appreciated!

Very Disorganized and Unclean Exper

My girlfriend and I came here last Saturday for a weekend trip, and the experience was terrible from beginning to end. The check-in instructions were extremely unclear, and we were somehow given access to a cabin that was not even assigned to us. We were able to unlock and enter another guest’s cabin using the door code provided, which was very concerning from a privacy and security standpoint. Around 7 PM, another guest arrived and informed us that they had actually booked that cabin, so we had to pack all of our belongings and move out. When we went to the replacement room they assigned us, it was completely unacceptable. The room had clearly not been cleaned after the previous guest left. There were stains on the bed, trash still inside the room, and the entire place felt dirty and unsanitary. We contacted the host/support immediately, but they were unable to provide us with another room that night. We had driven over two hours to get there, only to find out we had nowhere to stay. Our entire Saturday plans were ruined because of their poor organization, lack of communication, and failure to properly prepare the rooms. Their only solution was refunding the room we never even stayed in. While a refund was expected, it did not make up for the ruined trip, wasted driving time, stress, and inconvenience we experienced. We were extremely disappointed with how the situation was handled. I would not recommend staying here.

Oh goodness what a treat! What a treasure! Wilbur and I loved the Topanga Oasis Quaint cabin. We arrived when a film shoot was about to wrap in a different cabin in the cloister of cabins, made for some elevated excitement. Otherwise it was super quiet, but for sure it is also a bird sanctuary, waking up with their song surrounded by mountains was glorious. Even extended our stay for one more day. And the cherry on the top was meeting the fantastic and animated owner, Saskia on the final day. We had a great time talking, and she was really generous showing us around. We will most definitely come back!

We stayed at both the Wonderland and Tea Garden sites and enjoyed both very much. We and our dog Roger in particular were fortunate to meet David's daughter which was very nice. A great location and I highly recommend the sites.

Peaceful place with charm and a fun vibe. We loved the comfortable beds and plenty of creature comforts for ultimate glamping while still feeling like you are outside. Our family of four had a fun time staying there and loved the sound of the creek and frogs right outside the kitchen balcony. We will definitely want to stay there again if ever we end up in the area and hopefully would stay longer!

This place is such a gem! It's so peaceful and welcoming. The place is so cute, and has everything you need to glamp. The bed is so comfy and the heater had me cozy, and bathtub is stellar! Also the rains had the creek running, and the grass was so green on the hillsides along the trails. A little slice of heaven. Thank you!

We absolutely loved the property! The grounds are vast, magical, and green. Our friends rented several cabins which I’d highly recommend for big group. Check in was easy, our cabin was cozy clean, and stocked with coffee which was an unexpected plus.

I had the absolutely best time! It was so peaceful, at night all you could hear was crickets and frogs. Waking up in the trees was just beautiful. This place had everything you need! The bed was comfy and the place was cozy, true Topanga charm. The hiking trail was so lovely also. We had a sunset and morning hike. My dog enjoyed it too! Pup approved! I will most definitely be back, and recommending it to friends!

Quaint Cabin
I had a pretty good time however it was incredibly hot and the windows in the cabin didn't work well. They had to be propped open because they wouldn't stay open on their own, or they were giant windows that could only be wide open or totally closed. As a solo female traveler I didn't love the idea of sleeping with a huge window on either side of my bed open. None of the windows had screens so there were tons of bugs but they absolutely had to be open. It was frustrating because I was hoping to relax at the site but because of the heat and lack of airflow options in the cabin (faulty windows and one fan that was fighting for it's life) I basically had to go elsewhere. I'm sure the place is lovely when the weather is cooler, and there is a big radiatior in the cabin for when it's cold, but if it is going to available to rent during the summer I would be great if they took a little time make the cabin more heat friendly.

Japanese Tea House + Private Trails
I had a wonderful retreat at the Japanese teahouse and plan to return. Everything was perfect, and I could sense the care that has gone into this amazing property, from the unique art to the decor and special items to the comfy bedding and linens. The outdoor kitchen is so relaxing. I saw a red tailed hawk, hummingbirds, butterflies, and an assortment of little creatures as I made my meals and spent quiet time on the deck with my dog. If you are chill and appreciate unique settings and nature, this is paradise.

Staying on David's property reminded me of what it was like to go to summer camp as a kid. There's probably about 10 different units on his compound that give it a sense of communal living (minus the mess hall). The heart of Topanga is well represented at the compound, from the proximity to nature to the eccentric artistic touches. Loved having a home base we could access hiking trails from and decompress with our pup.

A nice spot to land on our travels—great to be in the canyon. We ended up staying in the Dragonfly House, and the bath house that is part of it was amazing.

I really enjoyed my stay at this quaint little Hipcamp spot, Japanese Teahouse. The setting had a lot of charm and made for a peaceful, low-key escape. I was a bit concerned at first when I realized there was no hot plate as spaghetti night was on the menu, but we made it work just fine with the toaster oven, making foil trays for our grub. One of the highlights was the bathroom, it was excellent. Clean, well-maintained, and the hot water in the shower was a real treat after a long day. Overall, a lovely experience with just the right mix of rustic and comfortable. Would definitely recommend and would happily return! Thank you David

Cozy and perfect
Quaint Cabin + Private Creek+Trails
My partner and I stayed for a long weekend and we absolutely loved our time here. This ranch stay was exactly what we wanted (and needed) and the rustic cabin was very comfortable. We can tell that a great community lives here and we definitely respect and want to support it. It was very quiet and we felt a lot of privacy. We hiked the trails on the property and had a magical experience seeing the cave and views. What a gem and we hope to stay here again!!
