Up the hill sits a separate art house that is occasionally rented, while the owner lives about 10 minutes down the road and is available if needed. You also have the option to book the entire camp, three yurts with 16 plus beds, along with the kitchen yurt and bathhouse, for your group.

Double Bear is about a 30 minute drive from Los Gatos. The final stretch is a 1.2 mile drive up a steep dirt road, crossing Bear Creek and winding through the mountains. The road is suitable for 2WD vehicles, just be comfortable driving on dirt roads.

Our yurt and treehouse are located on Lago Lomita Vineyards with a view of the entire Monterey Bay. We've been hosting guests since 2015 and are looking forward to meeting you!
Both our treehouse and yurt listings are unique experiences. They both are adjacent to the Tierra Madre Vineyard Block and have awesome views of the entire Monterey Bay/Pacific Ocean. We are located on 44 acres high atop the Santa Cruz Mountains but close to all the major beaches and Silicon Valley. Please be aware this is camping in nature, along with squirrels, spiders, falling leaves, etc. and nature is not always for everyone. There is a 45ft. ladder to climb to get into the treehouse. The view at sunset is spectacular.

We acquired the property in 1991, shortly after the Lexington Fire (1985) and Loma Prieta earthquake (1989). At that time, the entire property has degenerated into disrepair, and all the vineyards had been overwhelmed by the wilderness.
In 2011, we started the herculean effort of clearing away the wilderness, resurrecting all the vineyards and renovating our home. In 2014, we started replanting the vineyards, and opened our tree house to visitors in 2015.
Just like us, I think you will fall in love with this property, and enjoy every minute of your time here.

Located an hour drive from the bay area, Camp Cruz is a year-round glamping retreat in the redwoods ideal for people who want a private outdoor getaway in the forest without giving up basic living comforts. It's a perfect destination to unwind, recharge, and create special memories in nature. We are also only 30 minutes from Monterey/Santa Cruz for guests who want to enjoy the beaches and coastal cities. We offer guests 2 private bedrooms: the Raven’s Nest (an aircrete dome) and the Owl’s Nest (a yurt). Larger groups are welcome, and should bring camping gear such as tents and sleeping bags for extra people. We have plenty of great camping spots!
There is a fully equipped kitchen with stove, fridge, barbecue grill, electric coffee maker, tables and chairs, and more. The kitchen also has a ping pong table. There is a large geodome furnished as a game room with couches, a lounge area, pool table, foosball table, a bluetooth speaker, games, and music equipment. There are clean composting toilets, hot showers, a wood-burning fire pit, heaters for the cold, a hammock bungalow, a meditation pagoda, a deck overlooking a creek, and disc golf baskets. Guests are responsible for bringing their own firewood or may purchase firewood from us under "EXTRAS". With a fair balance of sunlight and shade, we have a garden and lots of open space to spread out and relax. Free wifi is available. We run a nonprofit outdoor education camp for underprivileged youth, so your stay supports our work to get youth outdoors.
Winter lodging....
It can get seasonably cold in the Santa Cruz Mountains during the winter. If visiting in the winter, rest assured we have everything covered to enjoy your stay. We have propane heaters for warmth and comfort. If the power goes out, we have a standby generator that will power up camp provided we are home to turn it on. We have woodstoves in the Owl's Nest and Eagle's Nest. We provide fire starters for the woodstoves; guests are responsible for bringing firewood to keep the woodstoves going or purcchasing it from us under "EXTRAS".

This beautiful yurt village is a hidden gem is the Santa Cruz Mountains and a perfect spot for families looking to get away from the Silicon Valley hussle. The yurts are so well stocked and taken care of, you almost forget your living simple.

Lovely yurt in a beautiful RV / tiny home community. The yurt is across the street from the office and a 5 min walk/1 min drive to the bathrooms. It feels private and has a parking spot, picnic table and fire pit in the front. Inside, it has everything you need for a camping-like experience, and is very well-kept and clean. We really enjoyed our stay.

Mathilda is a patient, communicative host and it was a joy working with her while planning our birthday weekend at Double Bear!
The road to the property is hard to navigate at times, but everyone was able to make it safely with the provided instructions and signs (and some help from Mathilda herself if they missed the last turn and you ended up at her house).
The property itself was lovely. We spent a lot of time in the kitchen yurt prepping food, eating, and playing games. All of the yurts are so spacious! Mathilda and her team seem to be doing a great job taking care of the yurts. We didn't have any complaints.
Two showers and two toilets was a bit difficult to share between 12-13 people, but we made it work! It would feel pretty tight to share with strangers, I think, but it felt fun and like a dorm hall experience to share with friends :)

Weekend Trip to Bay Area Yurt Retreat!
I had a pleasant stay at the yurt. The bed was comfortable and all the facilities were clean. I appreciated the well equipped kitchenette with a hot plate, mini fridge, and air fryer.
The yurt is located in a nice yard with lots of fruit trees and shaded areas. Do note that street/freeway noise is audible so I recommend sleeping with earplugs.
Overall I would stay there again.

Mathilda is such a wonderful host. Her communication, attention to detail, generosity, and affection to our children quickly made our holiday weekend a lovely memory for all our families. She had a gift basket with a smores kit to welcome us into the kitchen Yurt.
The facilities are clean and beautiful. All of us collectively commented how warm and cozy and welcoming the entire space is. All the Yurts had a fireplace that made the experience that much more cozy and warm. The restroom with two showers and toilets were perfect, and didn't smell at all. The trails were pleasant to hike with our kids. Reaching the top of the property allowed us to see the Santa Cruz mountains, and was a great enough workout for the kids.
Double Bear was a delight for all four of our families when we stayed 3 days and 3 nights over labor day weekend. Since our group was 12, of which there were 7 adults, 4 kids (ages 4 to 5), and one infant, we rented out the entire space. Our kids loved the hammock, the fire pit to make smores, the hot tub to relax, and the kitchen yurt to do several arts and crafts. We even appreciated the TV, so we could have a kids movie night. If you are able to vacation with other families with kids around the same age, they will entertain themselves around the property, and even willingly go hiking, or create an imaginary stage play at the small theatre. We stayed inside Double Bear the entire holiday weekend.
Our kids can't wait to come back and visit Double Bear again!

Our family had a wonderful time and our kids had a blast exploring the grounds and loved all the decorations. We arrived at night so it was magical to see all the candles and lights all around. They had everything we needed for cooking and family fun activities and we were able to spend some time at the beach since it was just a short drive away. Next time we are back, we are going to make use of the outdoor stage!

7 nights at Yurt In The Redwoods
Hosts were incredible helpful and accomodating, even when I needed to make some special request re check in time, directions to the property came through prompt and detailed as well. While we spent less time than we wanted to at the Yurt due to other commitments, the time spent there was lovely and relaxing. Bathroom and kitchen within the structure were also a pleasant surprise compared to how I have heard Yurts are normally set up!

The site was immaculate and very well set up. The beds were by far the most comfortable of our entire trip, especially after staying in various locations along the way.
All the amenities were clearly documented, and the kitchen was exceptionally well stocked with everything you could need—and more.
Our host, Mathilda, was extremely helpful with the visit and provided clear instructions. Her husband was also a great help in getting us into the site.
Without a doubt, this was the best experience of our San Francisco to LA road trip. The kids absolutely loved their surprise yurt adventure—a beautiful mountain-side setting complete with a hot tub and fire. 🔥
A fantastic experience that we would happily recommend to anyone looking for something a little different.

What a beautiful eclectic and fun place! We had an absolutely amazing time. We were glamping for the first time with our elder parents and a 4yr old and everyone loved it! Truly a unique experience for us and will definitely be coming back!
