We want the forest to do forest things. On the property there are 3 hammocks setup in the shade of Maple trees. Sunset views and ripe blackberries this time of year add to the off-grid experience! There are also trails to around the property to explore. Amazing sunset views and cool quiet mornings provide a calming environment. Come enjoy the healing peace and quiet of the forest. Our camping areas are fenced from the animals but you are free to explore our 12 acres and interact with the animals during your stay here. We ask that children under 10 stay outside the animal areas and children over 10 are accompanied by a grownup. We have plenty of art and child friendly activities, just ask and we can set you up. We have a no dog policy because the chickens and birds are free ranging, unfortunately we have had several bad experiences with dogs attacking the birds and other animals. If you have a dog that has been around farm animals and is well behaved, let's talk about it. We have 5 dogs so the birds have NO FEAR of them. ---- We are a working farm - PLEASE READ----- There are donkeys, roosters, dogs and peacocks that make noise, sometimes at night and always early in the morning. Please be aware that you may hear the donkeys bray (usually lasts about 30 seconds), roosters crow, guinea fowl chirp. It is startling and will wake you up. We do our best to keep the dogs hushed but we cannot stop the donkeys, roosters and peacocks from doing their thing. If you are a light sleeper, please bring earplugs or select another wonderful Hipcamp in our area, thank you! In addition to the interesting sounds you will hear, you will encounter dirt, poop and spiders. Since we are a working farm, things get dirty. We spray all high traffic surfaces twice a day but things get dirty and when it rains it is muddy. Please plan accordingly. We are centrally located between Grass Valley and Auburn, giving you access to endless recreational activities, wineries, breweries and restaurants. We have 50 or so rescued farm animals, you can interact with our pig Hank, Mojo the goat or Teddy the alpaca. NOTE: Starting Memorial Day each year, we have replaced all of our wood fire pits with gas fire pits. We have increased our prices to help cover the costs of propane. Thank you for choosing us!

We are closed for the winter with the exception for self-Contained RV's. Mesg me if you want a reservation FYI: We are a 15-acre lake and experience seasonal lows towards the end of the summer. I cannot predict what the lake condition will be in. Camp Watanda is a retired resident camp that we have converted to a vacation rental. We have 10 acres of wooded property, with the 4 camping kiosks close to the waterfront and 1 RV site on the waterfront and 1 tent site. The camping kiosk all have 8-10 mattresses, grilling table, picnic table, cooler, smoke alarms, rake, broom and fire extinguishers. We are pet friendly with 1 dog per kiosk. Tents can be pitched on the elevated decks. Our waterfront has a large fire ring, 2-covered pergolas, canoes, kayaks, life jackets and charcoal grill. Lots of fish in the lake, since this is a private lake, no license is required. There is also a bathhouse (very primitive and in serious need of remodel) close by with 3 showers, 3 toilets and 3 sinks. Up by the lodge is a cell phone charging station and Wi-Fi with Starlink connection. No dispersed camping. RV CAMPING: Because of the steep driveway and blind curve, we limit the vehicle length to 25 overall length. Our driveway is more suitable for RV's and Camper Vans and not Travel Trailers being towed. If you rent a kiosk, all campers must be on the same kiosk unless you rent a second kiosk. If you have a camping van and plan on using the van and the kiosk, then that is a second site. You cannot tailgate on a reservation just because the party only has 2 people on the kiosk, and you have 2 in the Van to make 4 people. These are tents sites on a Kiosk, there is parking for cars or trucks at the kiosk, not suitable for RV or Travel Trailers. Those vehicles will have to park at the waterfront parking lot. There are no refunds for cancellations within 72 hours of arrival. We reserve the right to adjust kiosk assignments at our discretion. NO SHOWS forfeit their site. Welcome to Slate Mountain where you have access to 160 acres of gated, private wilderness with 360 degree mountain views and exclusive waterfront on Slab Creek. There are two choices of sites to camp: At Site 1 you can park an RV or pitch a tent where you have access to a picnic table, fire pit, vault toilet, and amazing sunset views. At Site 2 you can pitch a tent and have access to a picnic table, fire pit, rocking chairs, and a hammock. Bring your hiking boots or your off-road toys and explore 160 acres of secluded forest filled with wildflowers, butterflies, ancient Pines and Cedars, wild berries, and wild game. Spend the day relaxing, picnicking, and try your luck at gold panning on pristine Slab Creek where not a single human or road exists for miles. Bring your paddle boards and kayaks and spend an afternoon at Stumpy Meadows, a beautiful mountain reservoir a 25 minute drive from the property. Apple Hill wineries and farms are a 40 minute drive. If you bring the off-road toys you also have access to miles of trails throughout hundreds of acres of national forest. Don’t feel like cooking? Smoke on the Water restaurant at Finnon reservoir in Swansboro is a quick 20 minute drive from the property. If you need supplies, a nice restaurant, or a day of wine tasting to break up the grit, downtown Placerville and Georgetown are both a 45 minute scenic drive. IMPORTANT NOTES: 1) To get the most out of your experience, we highly recommend a 4WD or vehicle, ATVs or eBikes. 2) The creek is at the bottom of the canyon, 1.5 miles from the gate at the entrance, and the road down is very steep and lined with blackberry bushes. We highly recommend an off-road vehicle/ATV or eBikes for easy access to creek. 3) Be aware you are in the middle of the forest and wildlife such as bear, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, and tics have been spotted on the property. Poison Oak is also common. 4) The property has cell service in the upper quadrant, however once you drop below the tree line toward the creek there is no service. 5) We highly recommend bringing a chainsaw or hatchet. There is an abundance of dead wood on the property that can be gathered for camp fires. Trees also occasionally fall on the trail which can impede access to the creek.

I loved camping in the apple orchard on Jane's farm! There was plenty of space for us to maneuver and park our trailer on the grass. We loved visiting the bake shop for apple donuts, caramel apples, and live music. Their flower garden is so colorful and we picked a pretty bouquet. We even had a small fire in the fire ring. I appreciated being able to have my dog with us too. Thank you and we look forward to coming back!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Absolutely Amazing Stay at Roughlands Campsite! Our stay at Roughlands Campsite was nothing short of incredible! From the moment we arrived, Jo, our wonderful host, made us feel so welcome. She went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, she even offered us an extra pop-up canopy just in case, and her responses were always so quick and thoughtful. The campsite itself is stunning! set against breathtaking woodland scenery that makes every sunrise and sunset feel magical. The hottub and bathhouse were an absolute treat after a long day of exploring—clean, comfortable, and so well maintained. You can really tell how much care and pride goes into keeping this place so beautiful and inviting. As a solo female camper, I couldn’t have asked for a more welcoming or unforgettable experience. The ranch itself stretches across 300 acres of pure peace and wide-open beauty—complete with cows, donkeys, and even a sweet little calf that stole my heart (and got its bottle from me!). The mornings—or, more accurately, the very early mornings—were accompanied by peacocks and roosters who seem to think 3:30 AM is sunrise. Instead of being annoyed, I laughed every time. It’s part of the ranch’s charm: nature doing whatever nature wants. The highlight of my stay was joining the host to feed the cattle. I never realized how vocal cows could be until I was surrounded by a chorus of them, each with their own personality and voice. It was grounding, beautiful, and completely mesmerizing. If you’re craving solitude, connection with animals, and a slice of real country life, this place is a must. It’s safe, peaceful, and full of small, magical moments that remind you how good it feels to slow down and just be.

We had a great one night stay at RockNWater Cove Camping! We stayed in Curley w/ an RV but definitely want to return to camp at one of the tent spots. The hosts, Kris and her husband, were super nice and answered lots of questions we had. The river access is really pretty w/ a nice beach area. Plusses are flush toilets, showers, propane fire pits with propane provided, potable water and electric hook ups. Looking forward to going back next summer!

Jane's land is simply beautiful. We stayed at campsite 2 which was across the street from the farm and orchard in the tall pine trees. In mid October the weather was mostly sunny and warm during the day and lightly chilly at night. The camping areas in the forest are on a hill with a slight grade. I think site 4 may be a little more level and tucked away. We slept in our vehicles so no comment for tents, but it is uneven. There are super clean porta potties at the campsites. We had the area to ourselves on a Monday-Wednesday. Lots of trees for hammock hanging, soft pine covered earth, lots of fallen pine cones of all types. They are big and fall and could hurt so be wary of the sounds. It is by the road so there are some sounds, but not much especially in the evening hours. One evening we did see two tarantulas. Only other animals sighted were a hare, various birds and insects. The pie shop is cute and available to campers most days if they are busy baking. the mini pies and cupcakes are beautiful and delicious. Friendly hosts. Would return!

Weekend Trip to Forest Mountain Treehouse Retreat

It was an amazing experience! Definitely a great way to seperate yourself from the hustle and bustle of everyday living. The site had amazing reception for us (xfinity mobile). With that being said, it is outdoor living. No electricity, low lighting and somewhat rough terrain for the inexperienced. I went for our wedding anniversary and made an amazing night. This was possible through being overly prepared and we loved it. I would recommend this site to anyone, but with the emphasis with being prepared. Suggestions for the trip: Light, hiking boots, and a nice glass of wine to enjoy the nights sky. P.S. Solen was an amazing host and answered our questions with quick response.

As someone who loves camping it’s always so hard to get reservations at public parks. So thankful to Hipcamp and Kris for this site. We had a river view with a lovely public beach steps away. I got to wash my face in fresh river water in the morning. Kris’ husband checked up on us and made sure we had enough propane for the gas fire pit. It was a lovely stay and I hope I get to return!!
