Take a few steps down to the lower tier for a nice flat tent-area that can comfortably house 2-4 tents depending on size. For those who crave more privacy, you're welcome to wonder anywhere above or below the tiered area to find an exclusive tent-pad that tickles your fancy. This is the ideal pick for those who are seeking more sun than shade, a whole lot of privacy, and un-obstructed views with walk-out / ride-out trail head access to a private portion of the upper Darrington Trail (~30 minutes to the lake by foot, ~15 by hoof, and ~7 by car).  With direct access to hiking, biking, and horse friendly trails that lead to, and around Folsom Lake, we encourage guests to bring all their toys... think about bringing light weight paddle boats, water floats, fishing gear, binoculars, hiking gear, mountain bikes, and of course your horses. 4wd or high clearance vehicles are highly recommended during the winter months.

This property was absolutely beautiful! It was our first time using this app, camping on a private camp ground, and we brought a large group of friends and family. Some joined just for the day, while others stayed multiple nights. There was more than enough space for everyone to spread out and enjoy. We had children of all ages with us, from infants and toddlers to teenagers, and every single one of them absolutely loved it. Even with a downpour of rain during our stay, it didn’t take away from the experience at all; the kids still had an amazing time, which says everything about how great this place is. The farm animals were such a highlight, horses, ponies, cows, the camp dogs, and especially the baby goats made it extra memorable. I’ve honestly never had this much fun at a campsite. I’ll also note that the walking distance is so close to the lake we even considered bringing a boat next time to allow summer lake fun to a future stay. Lastly, the owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and provided a generous range of options that made the experience feel both easy and special. He was available when/if needed and checked in with us through the app. We will definitely be returning!

Hold your HORSES!
Ascension Ranch has everything those looking to escape reality needs. Arrival is easy, following maps an easy route to get there, definitely suggest a truck or 4WD vehicle. The sites themselves are spread out and when we were there it was actually just us! The site was extremely spacious, and could have easily fit at least 15 people. The horses were roaming free just as stated and they’re beautiful. The ranch dogs as well were very friendly and one of them followed us everywhere (sweet guy). Overall, wonderful place to stay and bathrooms aren’t far at all.

Came here with 2 adults and 2 little kids and we had a blast! The animals were so much fun! We wanted to go horseback riding but that wasn’t able to happen and the kids were very disappointed. That was the main reason we booked this spot. With that we would still go back. Water access was also great!

The campsite itself is wonderful, but I had a few experiences that might turn people away. I want to love this campsite but it let me down in a few ways. Firstly, I stayed at the Meadow. Absolutely gorgeous and private. It will depend on you if you enjoy being parked next to the animal watering hole. We were visited by two VERY sweet dogs (that did pee on just about everything they could), two cows that kept their distance, and maybe ~8 horses. A magical experience, even if it did mean the campsite was full of animal poop and the cows even dropped a nice pile next to our picnic table on night 1. If you're brining a curious dog, I'd maybe avoid this site, because of all the animals, but up to you. I didn't see any potable water at the campsite, nor were there flushable bathrooms as are listed on this listing. I saw mention of some porta-potties but didn't see them while I was there. I also paid for firewood but there was never any at my site and the firewood at the station at the entrance was out of bundles and only had massive logs that I had no way to cut down. Overall everyone seemed very friendly and I was looking for some private alone time. There were a few drawbacks that would have truly made this a 5/5 site for me, but ultimately this lands around a 2/5. I hope to be back and maybe my luck will change.

The Ascension Ranch was incredible. They were very supportive hosts and had the perfect balance of helping us find our way and cultivating a gorgeous spot, while also respecting our privacy and letting us have a much needed friends gathering. The land was beautiful and we LOVED the animals. We even had the BEST dog hang with us at our campsite, which not only added to our joy of the place, but kept us feeling safe and secure. 10/10 worth the trip. We're planning another trip in the Summer.

Overall we had a pretty good experience. I was expecting a permanent structure of a bathroom, but the porta potties did the job. Bonus for the effort of the owner to move them to our site because we were the only ones staying there (winter). The best highlight is the incredibly convenient access to the trails for hiking and mountain biking. Check-in was easy enough; the owner was communicative. The biggest concern was getting to and from the site from the main gate, which required interactions with large, barking dogs. They ended up being very lovely and quite affectionate, but we knew how to speak to calm them and how to scratch behind the ears to prove we were friendly. It just wasn’t great being forced into that situation. If you’re scared of dogs, you would be less than thrilled with it.

I am writing this review to warn everyone that there is no longer a tent/yurt set up at Lovers Creek. When I asked the man about it, he said that a guest had brought the tent it wasn't included in the site, which is a lie if you look at all the reviews and pics there used to be a tent that stayed on the wooden platform. Luckily I brought my tent just in case so we didn't need to leave. The road getting onto his property is very narrow and beautiful and I wouldn't have been comfortable taking my car, I was glad to have a truck. The restroom is down at the "entrance" and a 10 min walk to the Lovers Creek site. We took the truck each time. There were cute animals to see on the property. Roads are very dusty! The best part about this place and the main reason I might come back is for the privacy. After check in, no one bothered us and the nearest campsite maybe 500 feet away across the other side.

The hosts were very friendly and bathrooms were very clean! My group did not have any issues with the horses that previous reviews mentioned. The campsite is very remote and the closest town is about a 30 min drive, so I recommend packing all food with you and planning to do activities at the campsite. I would also recommend checking in during the daylight to avoid confusion with the gates and finding your campsite. As a heads up, the lake shore was about a 1 mile walk from the campsite. Happy camping!

We had a great time! The campsite was clean and well maintained and so were the bathrooms! We were walking distance to a lake, which was fun and as a group of 8 with 4 dogs, had plenty of space there for us. We also were allowed to have a campfire, which was fun and enjoyed getting to know the camp livestock guardian dog, Cairo!

The site was perfect for a larger group and 10 year old pup. Rick was very welcoming and kind! Being at the top, the site had a beautiful view of the sunset and stars, felt private, and had full sun during the day. the only heads up I’d give is that the road from the entrance up to the site itself (about a 2-3 min drive) is not suitable for cars with lower suspension. My car was fine and clear the dips, but there are 3 prominent dips close to the site that could potentially ruin your car!

Overall we had a fun weekend with two families, a dog and two 6 year olds. Pros: dog friendly! Off the beaten path. Access to the lake (a 10-15 minute hilly hike with hills during dry season). 5 minute drive to Fulsom Lake state recreation area for asker access to the lake. A very friendly caretaker who told us about the land and the animals on it. Cool to see on of the horses roaming freely. Super sweet GIANT guard dog that keeps away predators from the property. Considerations: there is quite a bit of horse poop around the camp sites- I kind of enjoy the earthy smell, so that was not a problem for me. However it does come with quite a bit of flies. A few mosquitoes but not too bad in July. Heavenly Oaks was not super flat. It wasn’t a problem for me but some in our party felt like it wasn’t optimal for sleeping on the ground. Very dusty in July.

This was my first time camping and I brought my 6yo son. We had a great time! Definitely good for beginners. The hosts were friendly and responsive. There was some noise from other campers and boat parties but nothing bothersome. Open fire was not allowed in late July though the other campers seemed to be allowed to have one. Our bench needed repairs but it wasn't a real issue. The water was about a half mile walk away and was warm for Cali water. Overall it was a good trip. Thanks Ascension! We will be returning!

Our stay was absolutely incredible. Arrived close to 10pm at eagles nest for tent camping and the two women Lilly & Kelly were so patient and accommodating navigating us to our spot and made sure the spot was replenished and well kept. We did the petting zoo and got to meet so many cute animals, learn their names, and feed some. Then we did horse back riding around the lake where we got take these beautiful creatures to some amazing views. All in all we will be back again. The staff treated us like friends and treated us with great hospitality. Definitely recommend. Can't wait for our next trip.

We had a blast here! Staff was so friendly and the animals on the farm were adorable. We stayed two nights with two kiddos and a dog. There is no shower so be prepared to either bring a portable shower or wash off in the lake. Bathrooms are at the front of the property so we needed to walk which didn’t bother us. We stayed at Moonlight and I will say it is all dirt. The kind of powder dirt that gets EVERYWHERE. But if you’re okay with that then it’s an amazing camping site and secluded from the others. All around great stay and we plan on coming back in spring!

I loved tent camping at the site. The views were amazing and it’s so peaceful. We were a group of 15 and fit perfectly, definitely room for more if needed. Over all we all agreed the privacy was one of our favorite things about this place because we were a loud group. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back again.
