Camp Watanda is a retired girls summer camp. We have 10 acres of wooded property, with the 4 sleeping cabins close to the waterfront lots of space for pitching tents/dispersed camping. The sleeping cabins all have 8-10 mattresses, grilling table, picnic table, cooler, smoke alarms, rake, broom and fire extinguishers. We are pet friendly. Our waterfront has a large fire ring (only available before May 1 and after Nov 1), 2-covered pergolas, canoes, kayaks, life jackets and charcoal grill. Lots of fish in the lake, since this is a private lake, no license is required. There is also a bathhouse (very primitive and in serious need of remodel) with 3 showers, 3 toilets and 3 sinks. There is no cell reception but wifi available on most of the property.
Refund policy allows for full refund up to 2 weeks prior to start of booking.
Camp Watanda is private property, campers assume all liability for being on site. There is no lifeguard present. This is a natural habitat for woodland animals, poison oak, etc. - there is an associated risk for camping in their home.

Jones Bar Farm is a quiet little seven acre hobby farm at the end of the paved section of Jones Bar Rd in Nevada City, CA. We have 4 alpacas and about a dozen chickens, who free-range all over the farm.
The farm is perched near the edge of the South Yuba River canyon at about 2100 ft elevation. We are "above the fog, and below the snow (usually)." Summers are hot and dry here. Daytime temps in July and August are typically in the 90s, and night time temps are in the 70s. Spring and Fall are our favorite seasons.

Camping here is a semi-primitive experience, since there is no bathroom, and no garbage service. There is, however, potable water, and the campsites are easy to access and relatively flat.
Past our property, the unpaved, and very rough, section of Jones Bar Rd continues down into the South Yuba River canyon for about 2 miles, to a lovely swimming hole. Bicycling and hiking are very popular activities in this area.
If you are bringing your dog with you on your travels, you will want to be aware of the many unpleasant sticker weeds that are prevalent everywhere around here. Foxtails, filaree, and hitch-hiker weeds will all find their way into your dog’s fur.
The farm is about 6 miles from both Nevada City and Grass Valley. Both towns have lively and interesting down-towns with good shopping and restaurants.

Seemingly in the middle of nowhere, It is a 10 minute drive to the quaint, historical gold rush town of Nevada City, and about 20-30 minutes by bicycle along the the Tribute Trail into town. The neighborhood of this area is also one of the more safer bike friendlier places, you can ride into town along the NID trails, or set up camp and head up the 20HWY less than 20 mins to enjoy Epic Mountain Biking Trails.
Not only are we crafty, but also nature enthusiasts to feel free to reach out and ask about fun things to do here, if you are looking to stay busy exploring the nature. We also have a beautiful sunset hike that overlooks some beautiful views.
Oracle Oak Grove has a wide variety of camping options.
We have a camp grounds on the lower end of the property that currently hosts 4 different camp sites. the 3 May Pole zone, and 1 Faerie fields.
There is one shared Bonfire zone that can be used for friends camping together during the spring and late fall months when we are not in fire season.
We love hosting groups and birthday parties. Also individual campers as well.
We have two yurts available if you are more into the Glamping experience or especially if camping in the winter.
The Witches Hut and The Little Witch Hut!
The Witches Hut which is larger and can fit a family of 3 or 4.
This hut includes a patio, grill, and Private entrance.
The Little Witch Hut is smaller and more suitable for a couple or a single person wanting some solo retreat time. This one has cooking amenities accessible in an outdoor kitchen just outside the yurt. This one also gets better access to the Starlink available on the property. This yurt has the compost toilet outside and is a less than minute walk to it.
Both yurts have the ability to park fairly close to them and both are fully furnished. The Yurts are available for a higher expense than the camping of course.
We are sorry to say that Hot tub season is now closed.
We do have a wood-fired Cedar Hot tub, she is our Cauldron she is only available during winter and very early spring visits. I am sorry, but due to fire season and her being wood-fired she is not available outside hot tub season.
If you are interested in the experience it requires advanced noticed as well as an extra charge for wood, cleaning, and tending. She is a labor of love, and such a unique experience. Enjoy the smell of cedar, chlorine free waters under the stars.

PLEASE come check in before DARK. We are in a very Rural Area and it can be difficult to see a night where to park and camp. We have pathways and lights to guide, but there is a DESIGNATED parking zone and a cart available to carry your stuff to your CAMPSITE. This is not a CAR Camping spot there is ONE car camping site and the rest you is a very short walk to your site. Thank you.

Things you might like to bring: headlamps, robe, flip flops, slippers, hiking shoes.
Water: we are on a well and provide fresh drinking water in a container for you. It’s fine to drink, cook, and bathe with the water from the tap but it can have a minerally quality to it. We test the well annually.
We provide filtered water but if it runs out, the water out of the tap is safe and delicious.
The hot tub: it’s wood fired. This means you have to heat it with a fire to get it hot. This can take many hours to get to the right temperature. It’s a good idea to start a fire right when you get there! This tub may have leaves in it (they fall from above) and cloudy water. The water should NOT smell, the cloudiness is a part of the cedar tubs charm- ash from the fire and particulate from the cedar mix together. We treat it between guests with natural products that maintain the wood (you can’t use chlorine in these tubs). We clean it regularly. Shower before using it to wash off any oils please! The outdoor shower is lovely :)
Fireplace: We will leave you a bundle of wood that comes with the rental. If you need more wood you can purchase it from us or from the grocery store. We have lots of wood at the yurt and we ask you to pay $10 per bundle if you use more then we leave you inside. This is on the honor system- It takes a lot of time and resources to keep wood stocked for the property. If you don’t know how to start a fire you may want to bring an instant log with you. Please leave the lighter behind for the next guest.
Sleep: we have a heating blanket for cold nights, It’s about 10 degrees cooler on our land than in town. This is a real treat during our hot summers. There will be a fan for you as well during the warm season.
We live in the woods, there are bugs and wild animals on/or near the property. This is part of the country charm and should be expected. Please don't leave food outside.

We acknowledge that our property is located on unceeded land. It is the traditional homeland of the Nisenan tribe. The Nisenan tribe is alive and active and continues to fight for federal recognition and compensation for land loss.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay here!
To start, the hosts, Loren and Scott, are genuinely the sweetest people. We arrived after a long, exhausting journey and were having a very stressed-out moment trying to navigate. Loren went completely out of her way to come out to the road just so we could find the place easily, which was incredibly accommodating and helpful. Later on, Scott came by to check on us and make sure we had absolutely everything we needed. They truly made us feel so welcome.
The campground itself is beautiful and very well-maintained. The area around the campsites is perfectly mown, and they have beautiful, flat platforms that are excellent for tent camping or doing morning yoga. You get gorgeous scenery and a peaceful vibe, while still being very close to town.
An extra bonus was the bathhouse—it features a hot water shower with great water pressure and two flushing toilets, making the whole amenities experience super comfortable.
We had an amazing time and can't recommend this place enough! Thank you, Loren and Scott!

This place is truly a gem, and Renée is a fantastic host! The trailer is equipped with everything you could need, and we were welcomed with a gorgeous bouquet of wildflowers picked from Renée’s garden, along with a thoughtful selection of refreshments.
The property is only five minutes from Nevada City, yet it feels completely peaceful and immersed in nature. During our stay, we saw deer, rabbits, frogs, quails, and were serenaded all day by a wide variety of birds. To top it all off, the wildflowers were in full bloom, and we loved relaxing on the swing above the property while taking in the beautiful views surrounded by flowers.
We already miss our weekend there and are looking forward to coming back!

Weekend Trip to The Land: An Off-grid Refuge
Rachel's land was beautiful and lush! The bus was cozy and comfy, the bed was firm but supportive! We cooked every meal and didn't encounter any issues. It was definitely mosquito season so we kept the bus door shut :) We used the bath tub in the greenhouse and saw two frogs weeeee!
Rachel was extremely accommodating! She let us use her food processor as a coffee grinder hehe! We will be back!

The space is beautiful! We were the only ones at the camp for our stay, so the only sound was the breeze in the trees. The sites are nestled in a beautiful, peaceful wooded area. Nice hot shower, flushing toilets and small "kitchen" make it a luxury stay when boon docking. Can't wait to go back.

Weekend Trip to Tranquillity Base Ranch
We loved our stay in the Stargazer yurt-- very cozy and comfortable -- the propane heater kept us toasty! The land itself is incredible, covered in swaying grasses and wildflowers in mid-May, a treasure to experience. The stars at night were clear and bright. What a joyful, beautiful experience, grateful to have found it- thank you Rachel!

I enjoyed my time on Samantha's property! Everyone that I interacted with was kind and knowledgeable and gave me interesting tips and facts about the area. There is a spigot at the campsite with potable water, and a flushable toilet just a short walk or drive down the driveway. And the turkeys! I loved hearing and watching them meander around the property. The stargazing is good too. This is an affordable and private campsite that felt safe as a solo traveler. I hope to return.

This is a wonderful Hipcamp site. It's remote in terms of being in nature, but actually not far at all from Grass Valley. The outdoor covered bathroom with real plumbing was extremely clean and nice. Loren was very flexible with me about where I put my tent. A great place!

Weekend Trip to Tranquillity Base Ranch
This yurt is wonderfully curated inside, simple but had all the essentials. The bed was extra comfortable, and I loved the artwork. We didn't have a chance to use the sauna as it was already too hot out. There is another yurt nearby and view of the neighbor's garden, even so there was enough privacy inside. Directions were easy to follow and host was responsive. Conveniently close to South Yuba River. Great for 1-2 people.

This was a great spot for a friend and I to enjoy hiking in the area. Nothing super fancy, but all you need. The shower doesn’t have great pressure but it was hot and it felt good after a long hike. The birdsong in the morning waking up in our tents were wonderful. I definitely will return.

Great set up. We really liked the Yurt and the grounds. We went in early May and the wildflowers were in full bloom. It was a very peaceful get away. We weren't able to use the sauna or tub, but they were there. Maybe another weekened we come up. Rachel and everyone on the grounds were very friendly and helpful too.

A great quiet spot. Kept well. Level spots for my van, they also have tent platforms if you're looking to tent camp. Hot showers. Flush toilets. And a small kitchen space to use of needed. Easy to find, great info provided from the host. Highly recommend!

A beautiful setting for camping with large trees and plenty of shade. The amenities were spectacular and clean, a hot shower to start the day was wonderful. I went to Willo Steak house which was really close for dinner and then the next day to the Communal Cafe for breakfast before leaving town. Highly recommend!

Weekend Trip to Cozy Luxury Yurt @ Lazy Dog Ranch
We had an absolute blast staying in the yurt. It was extremely clean, warm and cozy. Big snuggly bed with lots of pillows and fluffy bedding. It had a perfect little kitchenette and fridge and very nice attached bathroom/shower. Sitting on the little porch looking out at the green fields and tree covered mountains was absolutely wonderful. It was very close to Nevada City (less than 15 min drive) but felt much farther away. It was very quiet and peaceful. The host David was extremely friendly and hospitable. He even contacted us before our check in to see what time we'd be arriving and if we needed anything special/extra. Great guy. We even got occasional visits from his sweet dog Billie Jean (after he confirmed that would be ok with that--we're dog people so we loved it). If this type of lodging is up your alley, I can't say enough good things about our stay here. We come back to GV/NC fairly often (I grew up there) and we'll absolutely stay in the yurt every time moving forward. It's so much better (and more affordable!!!) than any hotels in the area. Amazing weekend--THANK YIOU DAVID!!!

Overview
About
Stretching for 20 miles along the South Yuba River Canyon, this scenic park offers water and land based recreation, nature, and plenty of historic sites. While camping isn’t allowed inside the park, camping options can be found at nearby Malakoff Diggins State Park and on BLM land in the South Yuba Recreation Area along the river. Natural swimming holes are a big draw, as are seasonal wildflowers, birdwatching, and miles of hiking trails, including the wheelchair-accessible Independence Trail wilderness trail. Visitors can also explore the area’s rich history at historic river crossings and bridges, including the Bridgeport Covered Bridge, and gold mining sites, or try their hand at gold panning.
When to go
The park’s swimming holes are popular in the summer for visitors looking to escape the heat. Swimming is best, and safest, from mid summer through the fall. Visit in the spring to see wildflowers, with guided wildflower walks available on spring weekends. Guided history and gold-panning tours are available over the summer, while guided bird walks are available in the spring and fall. Fishing is only allowed upstream of the Highway 49 Crossing from late April through mid November, and year-round downstream of the crossing.
Know before you go
- Fire, alcohol, and glass are not permitted anywhere inside the park.
- Diving is prohibited and jumping from rocks is discouraged. The river may not be safe for swimming in spring and early summer, and anywhere with even a moderate current. There are no lifeguards on duty.
- Fishing licenses are required for anyone aged 16 and over.
- Sturdy shoes and protective clothing are recommended for steep, rocky trails and poison oak. Sunscreen and insect repellent are also a good idea.
- Gold panning is permitted using pans and hands only.
- Dogs on leashes are allowed everywhere except the Family Beach next to the Bridgeport Covered Bridge.
