Designated Camping.  Come explore this unique property consisting of over 100 acres. This portion of The Property which represents the front third section is for Designated Camping. There are currently five sites to choose from.  Each has a picnic table and fire pit.  For Dispersed/Primitive Camping, please see Property on Shenango # 1.

Five sites to choose from that include a picnic table, firepit, and trash can. Check in must be before 8pm.

RIVERS EDGE #1 - Rivers Edge is directly across from the ramp area to the Shenango River.  It is mainly a gravel site tucked back in the natural growth.  It is suitable for 1-2 tents. Vehicle parking very close to site, but no vehicles are permitted at the site.

CAMBRIA #2 - This site is named for the slag company that owned the property back in the early 1950’s.  There are six large cement pillars that remain from the facility that have been deemed The Obelisks.  The Cambria site is located near these pillars. This is a large site which can have 2-4 tents (2 people per tent).  The ground cover is a combination of grass and gravel.  It is close to the ramp to the river.  It is close to another camp site, but there is privacy between the two. Vehicle parking very close to site, but no vehicles are permitted at the site.

DUCKS LANDING #3 - The property consists of many wetland areas, one being a very large swamp situated in the middle of the property.  Hence the name Ducks Landing for this camping spot.  It is a small site suitable for just one tent and is located directly across from the swamp. It can only be accessible by foot. You can drive your vehicle by the river ramp or by the Obelisks to unload and it’s just a short walk away.  No vehicles at sites.

OVAL #4 - The Oval is located at the back portion of the Designated Camping Area to the east.  This is a large camping spot perfect for a group gathering of up to five tents (2 people per tent).  Although not located close to the river it’s a perfect place to gather with friends and explore the property.  The landscape of this site is open with vegetation and trees surrounding it.  The surface is combination of grass and gravel.  One vehicle to site and can remain.  All other vehicles to park at Designated Parking area.  Oval is at the main pathway into the Dispersed Area of the property which leads down to Hogback Run and west to the Shenango River.   Stories have been told that years ago this is where sprint car practice races were held by the late Buddy Barris #32.   Hence the name Oval.  Plus there's an Oval turnaround.

NO NAME #5 - Couldn't think of what to name this site, so it's called No Name until I come up with one.  Great camping site as it is wide open and can accommodate 1-4 tents.  It is located near the Obelisks on the way to the Oval site.  Ground cover is mostly grass and leaves. Two vehicles permitted to site.

Access the river to kayak or canoe at the common Launch Area or explore the property on foot and come upon  creeks, swamps, and wildlife including deer, fox, beavers, water fowl, turtles, beavers and lots of birds.  There is always a possibility of coming across a snake so be aware.

The trails in the Designated Area are groomed and provide a nice walking path including the Service Road which is roped off, but can enter on foot.  No vehicles permitted on the Service Road.  There is also a groomed trail heading into the Dispersed Area at the Oval site you can walk which will take you to the back gate, but beyond the gate the trail is ungroomed.  If you enter farther into the Dispersed Area you will need boots and be very cautious of where you are walking as the trail in some areas is very rough.

The Dispersed Area can also be accessible by the boat ramp area and begins very ungroomed.  By entering here you will walk along the river and you will end up at the back gate and enter in the Designated Area by the Oval site. It's an awesome adventure and takes you along the river, through the woods and to the junction of Hogback Run and the Shenango River.  The entire walk around Dispersed Trail is approximately 45-60 minutes.  Take water!

You are entering the woods - you have been warned -  Bring Bug Spray to repel mosquitos and ticks and watch for poison ivy! You will come upon a variety of wildlife including snakes, so be aware of your surroundings.

Please don't cut any trees when hiking through the area. Brush cutting is permitted.  No hunting or trapping permitted.

A charging station for phones or other electrical items will be located at the main entrance emergency use.  Best to be prepared with charging options.

The small borough of West Middlesex has several places to eat such as the Golden Bear, Middlesex Diner, Nancy's Tavern to mention a few.  There is also a Family Dollar and convenient store close by.  Hermitage is a larger city that has more restaurants and big box stores that is located north on Route 18 less than five minutes away.  So even though you will feel you are miles from civilization, you have all the conveniences nearby.

This property is truly an ecological paradise that I'm sure you will enjoy.

It's my pleasure to share it with you!

I wasn’t able to stay at #2, as I was needing a spot for hanging a sleep hammock, so Jayne was very accommodating and able to set me up into site #1. It was a perfect fit for my needs, I recommend it for hammock camping as well as room enough for a tent as well. It has a nice setup of a picnic table with Firepit, very nice spot to enjoy the gorgeous trails and of course, being a kayaker, close to the Shenango River launch. Jayne was an amazing hostess, very polite to me and the other’s in the group I spent time together with. Made me feel like I was family.. I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a nice outdoor adventure. Thanks again Jayne for sharing your property and kindness in caring for our stay.

Great camp to stay at with 5 designated camping sites and offering dispersed camping. Stayed at designated site #2 which was located close to the boat launch, and in more of an open setting. The boat launch has picnic tables. A fire pit, picnic table, garbage can and tiki torch were provided at the site. Camp sites were clean, well maintained and are adequately distanced for privacy and quietness. Didn’t hear or see anyone for my stay. The host, Jayne, was fantastic. Firewood is available for sale on site. Well marked camp spots, including the entrance to the HipCamp base camp. If you forget anything (don’t forget your bug spray!) a 24hr gas station is right in town and a Dollar General (open until 10pm) is in town as well. Definitely coming back!
