Just 34 miles away you can learn all about the oldest trading post of the Navajo Nation when you visit this national historic site. Driving up to the post takes you back in time to when people had to come here to get basic supplies and all the gossip. The Rangers here are extremely knowledgeable. Learn about Native American art and get a real sense of history. Many of them have personal ties to the trading post, which adds to your visit, and you may be lucky enough to get an informal guided tour of the Hubbell family home.

Just a little further away you have the Petrified Forest. This expansive park covers 230 square miles of Arizona desert, extending into the badlands and the Painted Desert. The Petrified Forest is famous for its fossilized trees, which fell about 225 million years ago. There's also spectacular colored rocks, a result of the Chinle Formation. Hike, sightsee and photograph your way through this unique landscape of grandiose geology.
