Camping in Lake Havasu State Park

On the eastern banks of Lake Havasu on the California-Arizona border, Lake Havasu State Park offers year-round camping and easy access to all sorts of water activities, including fishing, boating, and swimming. Lake Havasu is also the site of one of the old London Bridges, transported all the way from England to the States and reconstructed over the Colorado River. The Lake Havasu Campground features 53 campsites, all with 50-amp electrical hookups, and many located right on the beach. For those who want a few more creature comforts, the park also offers 13 cabins, complete with heating and air-conditioning.

1. You can book a campsite or cabin online through Arizona State Parks or over the phone. Campsites are made available 13 months in advance, at the beginning of each month.
2. Each campsite can accommodate up to 10 people, but there's an additional per-night fee for extra vehicles.
3. During the April-September high season, there's a two-night minimum stay for weekend camping (and a three-night minimum on three-day public holiday weekends).
4. If you can't secure a spot at the Lake Havasu State Park campground, consider a privately run alternative nearby.

Lake Havasu State Park is open year-round, though the summer months—when kids are out of school—tend to get the largest crowds, despite scorching, 110°F temperatures from June through September. The park has also played host to a variety of events and music festivals over the years, so it’s a good idea to check the park's website ahead of time to see if any special programming will coincide with your stay.

• You can pick up groceries and supplies in Lake Havasu City, right next to the park. There’s also a small camp store at the visitor center.
• Dogs are not allowed on beaches and must remain on a leash elsewhere in the park. 
• Fires are not permitted during periods of high wind, and additional fire bans may be put into place at any time, depending on risks. It's best to check with park rangers for the most up-to-date regulations.
• Two boat ramps and a personal watercraft ramp are available in addition to boat rentals.
