As a one-bedroom, one-bathroom small 570-square-foot home, I was able to create an illusion of the space being larger than it is. Furniture, appliances, big and small touches, were all measured to fit this space perfectly.

I had a wonderful HipCamp stay at Goffs Schoolhouse, right along historic Route 66 at the Mojave Desert Heritage & Cultural Site. The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful, making me feel welcome from the moment I arrived.
The setting is truly special; wide open skies, a stunning desert sunset, and a peaceful sense of history all around you. Exploring the grounds was a highlight, with fascinating museum objects and artifacts that really bring the area’s past to life.
The bathrooms were clean and well maintained, and the signage is helpful. You can hear the trains passing by at night, but honestly, it didn’t detract from the experience at all. I enjoyed one of the best sleeps ever, and with a pair of earplugs, it’s no problem whatsoever. Overall, this was a unique, comfortable, and memorable stay, and I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a one-of-a-kind desert camping experience on Route 66. :)

My son and his friends had an amazing time exploring the property and stargazing. He couldn’t stop raving about how much fun he had and how beautiful the night sky was. He is a budding astral photographer and this was his first opportunity to really get up close and personal with the night sky. Perfectly situated in the middle of nowhere. Completely authentic and extremely interesting. Ground is flat and made of perfectly uniform decomposed granite, so fine you can walk barefoot. Priceless desert vista in all directions. We chose a spot next to the old train depot to car camp overnight. This Hipcamp was exactly half way between our trip from the coast to Sedona. We were greeted at dusk, set up camp, slept, and left around 9. There was only one other camper in the whole place which we had basically to ourselves and our two annoying dogs. The bathroom was clean and well decorated- complete with a nice shower. The bi-hourly freight trains that pass in the night may be an issue for some, but the noise was not as extreme as some have stated in other reviews. If you think about it, you are considering staying at a train museum so the fact that there are active tracks nearby shouldn’t be a shocker! The place is off Route 66 which loops off of 40 so the distance from the highway is a non issue as you can take a short side route on Route 66 without the 11 mile drive in being an issue. Will stay again and hopefully late enough in the morning to visit the museum.

If I could give Abi a million stars for hosting an amazing property, I would! Very well kept, amazing views (desert land/plants, sunset, night sky, sunrise, all of it!), beautiful artwork and mini trails, basically more than anyone can ask for at a campsite. My husband, dogs and I enjoyed camping here so much we plan to visit again. It was nice that the whole area was to ourselves, it felt very private and safe. Would definitely recommend!

Our stay at Dan’s place in Lake Havasu City was nothing short of amazing. Truly! This was our first Hipcamp experience, and wow — the bar has been set so high. The location was peaceful and scenic, felt very private, and it was located just a short walk to Castle Rock Bay where our Florida dogs had a blast splashed and played in the water together.
Dan was a b*tchin' host too! He was kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the area’s land and wildlife. We even went on a rock-hunting adventure through the refuge together at sunrise — such a truly unique and special experience!
The sunsets were absolutely breathtaking, and the entire experience felt safe, beautiful, and welcoming. We only stayed two nights, but honestly, we could have stayed a month. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a genuine, nature-filled Arizona stay! 🌵✨

We had a wonderful time at Goff’s Schoolhouse, Laura met us with a smile & made us feel extremely welcome straight away. We then had the pleasure of meeting Chris who talked us through the history of the Schoolhouse & pointed out loads of interesting items for us to look at. We were completely unaware of the history behind Goff’s & couldn’t be more pleased that we stumbled across this gem which gave us a completely different experience to what we have seen throughout the rest of our trip.
We highly recommend this campsite & are truly grateful for the hospitality we experienced. It was a great option to stay between Joshua Tree National
Park & the Grand Canyon.

Such a special spot. I slept out under the desert stars in complete solitude (except for the company of jackrabbits and Joshua Trees). Place has vibey but not excessive artistic touches—perfectly representative of the environment. Good spot to camp and have a small fire. I really enjoyed my stay!

Oh my goodness this place! It was heaven! You need to be comfortable being remote because it really is just you. But the stars are so beautiful, the sunset was stunning and there is something so special about the peace it brings being so secluded. Roads are pretty rough getting to the camp but worth every bump aha.

The spot is good for a quick stay over. I definitely recommend the Camp host to leave a burn barrel or something where people can put their trash because some people don’t know how to pack the trash out. We drove in at the dark of night. If you read and follow the provided instructions to the site you shouldn’t have a problem. You do have to trust the process at night as the last few turns you are just out in the middle of a field and the roads are not well established. Can hear the humming of the power plant until late in the night once it goes off.

Overview
About
On the eastern banks of Lake Havasu on the California-Arizona border, Lake Havasu State Park offers year-round camping and easy access to all sorts of water activities, including fishing, boating, and swimming. Lake Havasu is also the site of one of the old London Bridges, transported all the way from England to the States and reconstructed over the Colorado River. The Lake Havasu Campground features 53 campsites, all with 50-amp electrical hookups, and many located right on the beach. For those who want a few more creature comforts, the park also offers 13 cabins, complete with heating and air-conditioning.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- You can book a campsite or cabin online through Arizona State Parks or over the phone. Campsites are made available 13 months in advance, at the beginning of each month.
- Each campsite can accommodate up to 10 people, but there's an additional per-night fee for extra vehicles.
- During the April-September high season, there's a two-night minimum stay for weekend camping (and a three-night minimum on three-day public holiday weekends).
- If you can't secure a spot at the Lake Havasu State Park campground, consider a privately run alternative nearby.
When to go
Lake Havasu State Park is open year-round, though the summer months—when kids are out of school—tend to get the largest crowds, despite scorching, 110°F temperatures from June through September. The park has also played host to a variety of events and music festivals over the years, so it’s a good idea to check the park's website ahead of time to see if any special programming will coincide with your stay.
Know before you go
- You can pick up groceries and supplies in Lake Havasu City, right next to the park. There’s also a small camp store at the visitor center.
- Dogs are not allowed on beaches and must remain on a leash elsewhere in the park.
- Fires are not permitted during periods of high wind, and additional fire bans may be put into place at any time, depending on risks. It's best to check with park rangers for the most up-to-date regulations.
- Two boat ramps and a personal watercraft ramp are available in addition to boat rentals.
