We also have a large, unfurnished teepee, and are working on a cozy, furnished country cottage. (ETA Sept 25). Large trailers and RVs are NOT allowed. Nearby activities include: bird watching, hiking, river rafting or tubing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, stargazing, and rockhounding. This area conforms to the Arizona Dark Sky initiative, and while we are not dark-sky certified, we've had several guests compliment us on our beautiful skys. When it comes to rockhounding, or amateur geology, this is a fantastic area for exploration and study. We gladly welcome pets, as long as you take care of all their needs, including cleaning up any mess and filling in any holes. Well mannered, friendly dogs may be unleashed from time to time. Please, PLEASE watch your small pets carefully. If you're traveling with cats, please keep them on a lead. There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature. Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Be prepared to tuck your food away and bring ample protection from the insects. You are responsible for your own safety and are camping here at you own risk. Please do not interact with any wild animals. If you encounter something and need help, please reach out to us. We live on the property and are readily available.

I can’t say enough good things about our experience at sacred Springs. But before I get to the property, let me tell you about the hosts. We had first planned on going to the property a month ago and had some serious car troubles that made that journey impossible. I’m pretty cynical, so typically anywhere that I’ve paid some amount of money to put a deposit down and circumstances have come up that impacted our ability to get somewhere ,not the place we were going, I usually just consider the deposit given as a loss. Never to be see again. “ thanks for playing, but sorry we have to keep your money because we are uncaring un-empathetic, greedy bastards.” That was not even remotely close to the experience we had BEFORE even making it there. We reached out to inform Gary and Darrell that we would be unable to make it, sadly but would be looking forward to coming in the future. These remarkable gentlemen who were so kind throughout the entire communication process before we even booked, continued this kindness and added empathy and sympathy for our situation. Still emailing and talking to us while we were in the midst of a horrific experience with our vehicle, not near our home and dealing with the costs and every other negative you could have. These two were like a ray of sunshine. Their gracious and sincere words in the emails and their hospitality and generosity is like nothing I’ve seen in years… decades even. They refunded us and offered a complimentary stay.

I stayed in one of the glamping wagons and loved it. The location near Sedona was great and the wagon itself was so cute and campy. It honestly felt like Oregon Trail in real life. It was perfect for two people and felt private, clean, and comfortable. The locked private bathroom for our wagon was such a nice surprise. The RV resort amenities were great too, especially the hot tub and pool after a long day of hiking. I highly recommend it.

Beautiful, well-maintained property overlooking I-17. My wife and I only stayed for a short time, but it was great! There was a hot shower and a flush toilet, which was a savior considering that our campervan's toilet wasn't working (don't rent a van from IndieCampers). There were a bunch of other amenities provided as well, and Gary was super nice and welcoming. The ONLY thing I think could be improved is that my tired brain could not figure out which direction to turn the faucet in the shower for hot water, but that was mostly my fault 😁

The view of the mountains and stars is really beautiful. Holly and her family are very kind and welcoming, and also allow visitors their own space. About

This is one of the best-preserved cliff dwellings in North America. It's tucked into a towering limestone cliff in Camp Verde, Arizona. Not really a "castle" but more like a high-rise apartment, this five-story structure is a magnificent national monument.

Montezuma Castle was built and used by the Sinagua people. This pre-Columbian culture built and inhabited the cliff dwellings between approximately 1100 and 1425 AD. Many families lived here, spread out among almost 4,000 square feet of floor space. It's believed that the structure lasted so long because its strategic placement in a natural alcove protects it from exposure.

Sinagua residents most likely used a series of portable ladders to access the dwelling. Park visitors who traveled to the monument prior to 1951 were allowed to enter the structure by climbing ladders up the side of the limestone cliffs. This was discontinued due to damage to the dwelling and concern for visitor safety.

Today, you can take a 1/3-mile paved trail from the Visitor Center to the base of the cliff where the ruins lie. Check out the museum's extensive collection of Sinagua tools, artifacts, and jewelry. Peruse the bookstore to learn more of the rich cultural heritage of the land and its people.
