This was awesome, by far one of the more beautiful and remote none forested location I have ever camped in. Don was a wonderful host and very helpful. The area was so pretty. I even saw a band of mustangs😁😁😁😁.

We’ve been traveling from the Ca. Foothills to camp in the red rock country for close to 50 years. In the old days, we could arrive at a place like Valley of Fire or Desert View without advance notice and score a site. Now, no. Thank goodness for Hipcamp. The route between Flagstaff and Utah was always a camping challenge. This May we found Naked Skull, liked what we saw and booked four nights. Linda put us in 7T and we loved it. Quiet wide open vistas in a rock protected site where we parked our pop up. Lots of lizards, a few wild horses and exquisite sky. Linda and Donavin were attentive hosts, made sure we were fine and gave us friendly space. Now that we have a place to stay, we’ll be taking 89 more often.

This is one of the coolest campgrounds I’ve ever stayed at! Donavin and Linda are two of the most down-to-people I’ve ever meet. They will accommodate your every need. This is also one of the best mountain bike (clothing optional) places to ride. All I can say is this is a must stay for the outdoor enthusiast.

A very peaceful, safe place, great views from the hilltops. There are lots of paths to take and explore the area nude very comfortably. Also a very dark sky area millions of stars.. I got a recommendation from a from a guy that had recently stayed there for an extended period and had a very enjoyable stay, I agreed with his opinion. Donavin checked with me a couple times a day to make sure all was well. Donavin and Linda are great hosts. The best thing I can say is that I will return as soon as I am able.

The last spectacular sunset lingers out to the west. My campsite, a secluded cove surrounded by sandstone boulders. This could be the best campsite I have ever stayed. Naked Skull is sixty-five acres located seven miles off HWY-89. Access is a bumpy but maintained dirt road. This campground caught my eye because of the proximity to the Grand Canyon and also because it is clothing optional. The sites are well spaced out providing privacy and solitude from other campers. Wild stallions roam the property. The lack of light pollution allows for extreme sky watching. A wonderous sunset, a sea of stars fill the sky, and a sunrise that brings tears to the eyes. My only criticism is that I only stayed one night. I would highly recommend Naked Skull to those seeking Solitude. Thank you to the hosts for being so welcoming.

Naked skull was a fabulous experience. From wild horses greeting me a mile from the campground, to super friendly hosts, dark sky star gazing, geology, yoga in the wide open and a 360 degree view of the horizon. I recommend the guided tour also. Bring a group, they have room.
Trust the directions and take it slow. I hope to stay longer next time.

What an amazing property! We had the most incredible camping experience at this site. The property itself is stunning with its incredible views especially during sunset!
Donavin and Linda were incredibly accommodating and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Moving our tent site to a more secluded area blocking us from the wind the night of our stay which was very thoughtful. Their directions to the site were spot-on, which made finding our way there a breeze.
I cannot recommend this camping site enough, it's a true gem!

This was my first time at a Hipcamp and was pleasantly surprised. Actually, this place was nothing short of awesome. The hosts, Linda and Donavin, were over the top helpful, welcoming, and accommodating. Donavin provided an unexpected tour of the property upon my arrival, pointed out the highlights, and enumerated the local flora and fauna, including the wild mustangs. This 60 acre property is remote and relatively untouched which is a large part of its appeal. Adjoining properties are largely undeveloped, thereby giving a sense of the varied desert landscape as far as the eye can see. Some beautiful views are available from your campsite with Humphrey’s Peak (Arizona’s tallest at 12633 ft) to the south and the Colorado plateau to the north. The 7 mile road off of Route 89 to this location is unpaved, mildly rutted at times, but posed no problem at all. To navigate to this property, I would suggest using the provided Google map’s pin to avoid any confusion. As others noted, the stargazing is absolutely amazing, weather permitting. Most, if not all sites, have a fire ring and mine was provided with some firewood. I cannot overstate what a great time that I had conversing with wonderful and interesting couple that shared a campfire with me. All in all, a wonderful experience!

It’s fate that you are looking at my review so now you need to follow thur and experience this place. Wow!!! My wife and I decided to go to naked skull to have an off grid experience. Our expectations were exceeded by 1000%. The grounds are simply amazing and breathtaking. Watching the wild horses roam the area from the hill tops is something you cannot explain just purely magical . All of the campsites are different and peaceful we changed sites when Donavin showed us around but would be happy to stay anywhere on the grounds. Campfires under the stars with more stars than anywhere I have camped in my life! It’s a stunning sky. We had just come from Sedona and naked skulls has sunsets that match Sedona.. if you are considering staying here I would highly recommend it in fact there is no way you should pass up the opportunity. We had planned on just spending our nights hanging together alone at our campsite but met another camper that was staying there and had a wonderful time talking by the campfire we were lucky to meet such an incredible guy. We will be back for a longer visit for sure everyone need to experience naked skulls at least once in their lifetime!!!

This was my second time there and it was better than the first. Linda and Donavin are wonderful down to earth people that will help any way they can. Donavin comes by every day to check if everything’s okay. The property is so vast you can take a new path every day and see something different. I will definitely return as soon as I can

If you are comfortable with the undressed, I highly recommend this beautiful place! We showed up a bit later than planned - thanks to a mix of car trouble and trying to navigate in the dark - but were greeted warmly by Donavin, who helped us get settled right away. His hospitality set the tone for a fantastic weekend.
Our campsite was tucked between giant rock formations, offering total privacy and shelter from the wind, which was definitely making itself known during our stay. It was quiet, beautiful, and felt like our own little desert oasis.
Donavin and Linda were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They’ve created something special out there - raw, remote, and wonderfully untouched. Being immersed in nature, clothing optional and stress left far behind, was exactly the kind of reset we needed.
We felt completely safe and free the entire time. The vibe was relaxing, open, and just plain fun. Let’s just say we made the most of our time in the trailer and under the stars - because when you’re that relaxed, everything feels better.
We’re already planning our return - next time for a longer stretch. One weekend at Naked Skull just isn’t enough.

Fun to explore the property, sit by a fire or meet your neighbors in a super chilled atmosphere, as clothed or unclothed as you feel like.

Naked Skull is absolutely beautiful! Quiet protected camp sites, gulleys, hiking trails and free roaming across the open land. Wild horses passing through reminding of a time untouched. The night sky is brilliant with stars. This is absolutely a treasure camping place for anybody just wanting to get away and be in nature.
Donavin and Linda are amazing people, going out of their way to make me feel welcome. I really appreciated Donavin taking time to just chat.
Rustic camping for sure. Bring water, more than you think you may need, and you will have one of those camping experiences that you will never forget.

A spectacular refuge. Another reviewer mentioned stark beauty - that's right on. Pure, gorgeous desert with no neighbors other than what looked to me to be wild mustangs. Linda and Donavin have created a gem here: numerous sites, but lots of separation between them such that you can be as secluded as you like; clean outhouses; an outdoor shower; quiet. This was my first clothing optional experience and I loved it...the venue just kind of begs for tossing the threads. Just do it, it's so freeing. It's about 7 miles remote, but getting to it was easy in a 2WD Ram van - just trust the written directions and you'll be fine.
It's an awesome place with awesome people, enjoy it!

Linda and Donavin have created a beautiful and personalized natural campground that they should be very proud of.
Highlights include: personal tour of the property to familiarize myself, wild (but skittish) horses and rabbits, BEAUTIFUL rock formations (perfect for sunset and sunrise viewing) and perfect solitude.
Donavin was warm, friendly, and welcoming. Getting to see his passion for creating a beautiful space was inspiring.
The path leading to the camp was gravel, mostly smooth, and perfectly far enough off the highway to leave all road noise behind.
I’d highly recommend! 🤠

If you’re looking for a remote desert escape, this spot near the Indian Reservation is absolutely stunning. Linda and Donavin. the owners, were incredibly friendly and had a great story about moving out here and building up the space. You can tell they’re putting a lot of heart into it.
The site itself is starkly beautiful—classic Arizona desert landscapes with massive stones, canyons, and wide-open skies. It’s about a 15-minute drive off the main road through desert paths, but the Google Maps location was spot on, so we didn’t even need the written directions (actually they confused us a little).
The camping area is huge, flat, and well-suited for RV camping, with a nice fire pit and plenty of space to spread out. There are vault toilets (no showers yet), and they’re actively working on improvements. Just keep in mind—it’s truly off the grid. No cell service at all, which I wish I had known beforehand since I missed a meeting.
That said, it’s a fantastic place to disconnect and soak in the solitude of the desert. Wishing Linda and Donavin the best as they continue building this unique retreat. Five stars!

We loved our stay at this property. It is down a well graded dirt road and the gps coordinate provided took us right to where we needed to check in with the hosts. The communication before hand was great as well.
The property itself is stunning. When we arrived there was a storm rolling in. Donavin and Linda met us outside and offered us some better spots than what we had originally booked to help with wind protection for our tents which was awesome! I will be staying here again the next time I am in the area for some other adventures!

Nice private campground. The road to get to it is pretty rough, and it does appear to cross Navajo Territory. You don't need 4wd, but you probably won't make it with a low clearance vehicle.
My site was nice and level with plenty of room to stake my tent.

Their spot is super cool, but be advised that it's WAY out in the desert down a long dirt road (tricky to get to in my Prius but we made it). They were very chill about my naughty puppy, too. <3

Naked Skull Campground offers a wonderful escape into nature with its beautiful scenery and well-maintained facilities. It's perfect for those looking to enjoy hiking, stargazing and relaxing in a serene environment. The hosts, Donavin and Linda, were very welcoming and made sure I was comfortable. The place was absolutely amazing. The scenery at night is beautiful.
The road to get there is a county road but very accessible with a regular car - we got there with a VW passat, no problems. We were warmly welcomed and the campsite was scenic (for someone not used to the desert).
In the morning, the host offers us fresh water. Very lovely interactions.
