First day of my campsite I start with 2 campsites then I built 1 more campsite. I then made fire pit an after that I built an outhouse its a restroom so of the guest don't know what an outhouse is we tell them it doesn't take no water to flush. After that I built a wooden fence around the whole campsite from horses a cows get into our property. So that how I started a campsite. Now our guests love our campsite a some of them came back an we have a short hiking trail to the rims to overlook the whole valleys its beautiful to take pictures from there.

The Campsite is 10-15 mins to the Valley View of the Famous Monuments and close to Navajo Tribal Park. Access to Restroom (Outhouse) within the site. Guest can request Navajo Taco Dinner with Navajo Tea for extra cost to enlighten their stay here in Beautiful Monument Valley. Guest can bring pets as well. We are pet friendly and have one well behaved dogs name spike and diamond. Also we rv size will be 25 ft long .. 30 ft. Long is going to button out on the cattle guard. We don't have hookup.

Hawks Hideaway offers 8 campsites suitable for tents of all sizes, many of which can accommodate two or more tents (additional fees may apply). We also have a large, unfurnished teepee, and are working on a cozy, furnished country cottage. (ETA Sept 25). Large trailers and RVs are NOT allowed.
Nearby activities include: bird watching, hiking, river rafting or tubing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, stargazing, and rockhounding. This area conforms to the Arizona Dark Sky initiative, and while we are not dark-sky certified, we've had several guests compliment us on our beautiful skys. When it comes to rockhounding, or amateur geology, this is a fantastic area for exploration and study.
We gladly welcome pets, as long as you take care of all their needs, including cleaning up any mess and filling in any holes. Well mannered, friendly dogs may be unleashed from time to time. Please, PLEASE watch your small pets carefully. If you're traveling with cats, please keep them on a lead.
There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area.
Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream.
Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature.
Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Be prepared to tuck your food away and bring ample protection from the insects.

What to expect:
We are in a rural neighborhood where most parcels are 1-3 acres, we have seven acres. It's quiet around here but along with the natural sounds of the desert like yipping coyotes, and woodpeckers pecking, you may hear a horse, dog, or chicken. While we are on the outskirts of Tucson, we are not completely remote.
We have carved our sites out of the natural layout of the desert. There are many kinds of cactus in our area in addition to the magnificent Saguaro, and uneven areas when walking. We keep it as natural as possible.
We have a small "Mercantile" on property. This is our office, but we also have items you may have forgotten, and souvenirs made by local artists. Also available is firewood, and ice is for sale for your convenience. We have a small Laundry Shack (two washers, two dryers) 2.00 wash/2.00 dry. You'll need cash for these things, we do not take any other form of payment at this time.

Do you like a clean restroom and a nice breakfast area on a well maintained property? Do you want to feel safe, enjoy beautiful views and know your stuff won't be stolen while you are in Tombstone? Then my place is for you! 18 and over. NO PIT BULLS. Good well behaved dogs allowed on leash welcome. If you want to bring a properly raised young person you can make your case to me and I will consider.
I offer 2 full hook-up spaces, one space is covered. Power is 50 AMPS! An RV must be under 12' to fit under the covered space.
I offer 4 dry camping options. You can book the Tent Cabana-The Shady Rest- listing or you can dry camp by booking through my Tent and Vehicle Camping listing. There are no exact designated spaces for tent/vehicle camping. You can choose where you prefer to camp. An extra vehicle is OK as long as it's part of your one campsite. 2 groups with 2 camp vehicles is 2 campsites.
I also have the Pool House, an indoor option with a power outlet, and it's close to the pool and restroom area. You can set up your bed or rent a full size bed which I will set up for you.
This is my private property, you and your gear are safe and secure. You can leave your campsite and go exploring, no one will bother your stuff.
I have WiFi and great cell service here. Please arrive by 8pm unless arrangements are made in advance. I meet with you and show you around.
I will greet you and show you around. I close my gates at dark. Once you are here you may come and go as you please.
I am located just over an hour away from Tucson and 25 minutes off the 10.
Dry campers- Off the pool area there is a clean restroom in my back garage and a sink with hot water. There is a breakfast room with clean refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker available for your use. Lots of local birds visit daily. You are welcome to visit and pet my horses and donkeys!

What a beautiful and welcoming space. Gary and Daren were incredible hosts. Greeted upon arrival with a tour of the space. Beautiful views and countless amenities. The outdoor shower with Mountain View was exactly what i needed after my drive.
The stargazing was absolutely breathtaking. Coffee, fresh eggs and countless other wonderful things complimentary with your stay.
I’m sad I was only there one night and couldn’t explore more but I absolutely will be back.

We had a great time at Russell’s cottage! The surrounding red rock cliffs are absolutely stunning and even seemed to convert my fiancé who historically had not understood my love of the desert. Just up the road is a trail that will take you up the slope to the nearest cliff. The cottage itself looks rustic and fits into the landscape beautifully, but is actually packed with just about every amenity you could want, even for those unfamiliar with the outdoors (heat, A/C, internet, indoor and outdoor showers, fridge, toaster oven, gas stove top, outdoor gas and coal grills and cooking setups for the fire pit, sauna). However, I think even more striking than the convenience and the thoughtfulness Russell has put into stocking the cottage is the care he took in building it. We really enjoyed just looking around to try to identify all the creative uses of reclaimed items, because they were all so artistically and coherently integrated that they felt seem less. The cottage was also incredibly clean, and seemed to, almost without fail, have everything exactly where you would want it. Want to sit and watch the sunset, turn around there’s a chair right behind you waiting. My only minor criticism, if you can even call it that, is that there is no freezer, so just be aware if you are doing a multi-day trip. However there is an incredibly well stocked grocery store only a 10 minute drive away (though, be aware that, despite listing hours as MST, they actually seem to observe MDT).

Awesome, quiet little place to go watch the stars. We nearly got rained out, but sleeping on the wood structure made all the difference in the world. Instructions were clear. Grateful for the hospitality!

Always a great experience. This is my 3rd time visiting. I was here for watching a meteor shower. The dark sky community there enabled me to get my star gazing fix and its always a pleasant visit. Highly recommend this place. Please take the time to walk the trails and visit the creek. Gary and Darren are amazing hosts.

Site 1 hookups worked great. I was the only one camping at the grounds for 3 nights and it was peaceful and quiet. Didn't use the public restrooms so can't comment on them. The beers on draft were really great.

We absolutely loved our stay. Everything we could need was provided. The home is unbelievably beautiful and comfortable. We used the steam sauna on the last night and couldn't be more thankful. The neighbors are amazing! There very kind and welcoming was a very well loved added bonus. We can not thank Russell enough for opening this space for us and others to enjoy.
