Host Tammy Taylor says:
The property was once a part of a hundred acre track when in 1894 a prominent citizen of Clay County. AL Stephenson, county clerk, gave to his son for consideration and love 65 acres. DH Stephenson went on to build a small log cabin and brought his new bride to the wilds of Clay County, nine months later they had the first of seven kids. In 1910 they expanded the house and added a second story. In 1920's the family moved to Clendenin WV, where Mr Stephenson founded and ran the only bank in town, The Farmers and Citizens State bank.
