Located between Rockhampton and Emu Park beach. 711 Thompson Point Road Nankin Our campsites are located in a rural setting with plenty of shady trees, friendly cows and mountain views close to the Fitzroy River. Relax around a campfire on a peaceful dam and listen to the kookaburras. Dip your toes into the cool water whilst sipping watching the sunset. It is 10km to the upgraded Fitzroy River/Thompson Point boat ramp and pontoon. Enjoy some excellent fishing and crabbing on the river, bird watching and bush walking up the many hills. Only 1/2 hr. drive to the beaches (Emu Park and Yeppoon), National Parks (Mt Etna Caves, Mt Archer Baga, Limestone Creek), and Rockhampton (Kershaw Gardens and Rockhampton Free Zoo). Campfires in the firepits provided on each site. Pre-cut fire wood for sale on site. Pets are welcome, however the must be kept within your allocated campsite area and supervised at all time. (Dogs are not allowed to chase livestock or native animals). Quiet genset are also allowed. Definitely no boats to be backed into the dam for washing purposes. Fish cleaning and boat washing facilities at the solar bore near front entrance. Telstra mobile reception. TV reception with antenna. We a setup for fully self contained camping, however there is a basic bush shower/toilet available for our campers. The dam is a pristine eco area and no soap/detergents/chemicals to used in/around it. The dam is stocked with silver perch and bass – catch and release. Camp site caters for 2 Adults and up to 4 kids per site. Come and Take-A-Break.

The views were absolutely beautiful and the directions were very easy. There were a few other campers around but everyone kept pretty much to themselves. I would definitely come here again if I have the opportunity and definitely stay more than 1 night next time.

What a beautiful place to stay! Sites are large and far enough away from each other. Camping is right on the water and the amenities are clean and not busy. Views are fabulous and lots of wildlife to look out for! Such a lovely place to stay, highly recommend.

What an epic little spot. Went down from Yeppoon for a night with little kids. Fishing and cooking on a fire and a brilliant lookout. Ian met us on arrival with firewood ready to go.

We loved the 2 nights we had at Take-A -Break Bush Camp. Overlooking the Dam and just enjoying the quiet was fantastic. Ian was a great host and provides a terrific camp spot that is an easy distance into Rockhampton if you need it.

A delightful country experience

Heading towards Take-a Break Camp, we were transported from our city "bubble" into a delightful country experience, with breathtaking vistas of the Fitzroy plains and the mountains beyond, to the camp site nestled into the Flat Top Ranges Reserve. There is a world of life around the dam, from Wedge Tail Eagles, to ducks and frogs, not to mention the curiosity of the cattle on the other side of the fence. The modern toilet and shower facilities were very neat and tidy. As we were travelling light, the picnic table and chairs provided made the stay all the more comfortable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for something off the beaten path.

Had a wonderful stay at Take A Break Bush Camp. The family had fun in the catch and release dam, using the kayaks for fishing and throwing a yabby net in. We enjoyed a shower under the stars and the beautiful mountain views. Well maintained and peaceful spot. Will be back

One of the best Hip Camps I’ve been too, the camp sites are huge and well spread apart, fire pits on every site, the dam is great to swim in, the owner’s came down once, they were nice, 1 tip is to buy the firewood when you get there, not through a 3rd party.

Great camping spot here. Good facilities with a new toilet and shower block inc the og bush toilet and shower. Kayaks free to use on the wee lake and the owners offer firewood, ice and eggs for sale!

This was a wonderful place to stay. The owners were very welcoming and friendly, the bathroom and shower facilities were clean and comfortable, and the views were stunning. Being surrounded by adorable cows added such a charming touch to the camping experience.

Such a gorgeous spot to camp. We booked this site as we were on a big road trip passing through so we are bummed this isn’t a place we will be able to frequent as its so peaceful and beautiful. Great for pets! Awesome to have an onsite shower too!
